And yet we can't give him away.

Like Winks, it’s not his ability he has some, it’s his attitude and at time arrogance that held us and him back. He isn’t a bad player but lots of clubs will do their homework and will look at his mentality too.

Faes is like Cags, but only on Cags’ bad days.

prime Soyuncu was an absolute cult hero

Not much difference ability wise between Faes & Soyuncu imo

Soyuncu gets put on a pedastal for alledgedly going against Rodgers or whatever

The Faes/Soyuncu comparison has always confused me.

Other than them both having a ricket in them. Cags was superior to Faes in every way.

Cags was rapid, Faes isn’t.

Cags Cruyff turn out of trouble didn’t ever scare me, Faes definitely not as technically sound.

Faes is a poor man’s Cags, regardless of playing next to Evans or not.

My point wasn't a comparison regarding quality.

More that they are both players who need a a good solid senior CB with organisational skills, leadership beside them.

Soyunuc career has been on a down spiral since leaving, Evans made him a better play and help him elevate he's level. In fact he's been crap.

Faes like soyuncu in my eyes is a 2nd CB who plays alongside you top man.

Soyuncu getting in the PFA Team of the Year when he was catastrophic post-restart is insane, the things you learn on FT

Souuncu is this generations Miguel vitor. He had a tidy period but was never actually very good

He most certainly is a bad player.  A constant throughout our decline with three relegations under his belt.

It is often the case on FT that a players reputation is improved by not playing.  Let's not forget how bad he was.

I never said he was a good player, so there was no insinuation on my part of the reputation improving while not playing attempt at gaslight. He played for the Belgium national team, played 16 times for Monaco in the Champions League, he has ability, whether you like that fact or agree with it is quite frankly irrelevant.

And as I also previously said, it’s his attitude / effort and ego that has effectively got to him here, out of the national team and a league one team. Before the new signings we had Okoli and Luke Thomas ahead of him, on ability, of course not.

I don’t want him here due to his attitude and effort he like many others I want to see the back of this type of player completely.

I sound like a broken record but Cags made the PL Team of the Season, picked by the players themselves.

I have no idea why we can’t appreciate that Rodgers deliberately mugged us off by picking Amartey ahead of Cags when we were free falling.

Cags got this accolade when Maguire was playing week in, week out at United, Laporte (missed a large part of the season), Gomes playing every game next to VVD and others like Vertonghen, Rudiger etc.

But why has he never repeated it? He is relatively young still and yet his career is basically over. Don’t think he ever gets on the pitch these days if I’m not mistaken (I may be)

You said "he isn't a bad player" (direct quote).

I disagreed with you and said that he most certainly is a bad player.  A bad player with a bad attitude, but a bad player nonetheless.

Just my opinion which is as relevant or irrelevant as yours.

Soyuncu was good but I think playing with (a committed)Jonny Evans proved to be a perfect foil. It's not like he went on to do great things with Atleti, Beshiktasspor/whoever in Turkiye or the national side.

O'Hare anyway, made good noises in the media upon arrival, interested to see how he settles. He'll want to be captain I'd think.

Broadly speaking I think you're right in that he's not a leader of a defence. But he was certainly the top defender. It wasn't just that he got in the PL team of the season, he also did that in the Bundesliga. Obviously it went wrong for him but it's not like he only did it 1 season in his career. Had it not gone downhill, he'd certainly be first choice centre back at one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Was he really? Thats bloody mental

And in the Bundesliga team of the season before that.

Incredible take to suggest that Faes is anywhere close to peak Soyuncu in ability

Soyuncu after a slow start was an amazing player. If I remember correctly he formed a great partnership with Evans then dropped off after the Bournemouth game when he was sent off and Leicester missed  champions league football.  I stand to be corrected.

Whether soyuncu wasted his talent is not that important, he was 10x the player that faes is or any other CB we have had since
