Well done LCFC on a commendable transfer window

Was a good window in the end. Got rid of the deadwood, bought in some decent players and finally getting our wish of seeing the academy lads play.

 

Wasn't keen at first on the manager and still not entirely sold due to the playing style, but he is trying to get the fans onside, coming out early against MK over to the fans was a good touch and the players all seem to be on side and putting in a proper shift.

 

Still obviously apprehensive as to whats happening behind the scenes with the sale, we need someone with funds to blow.. but on and off the pitch squad wise, we seem to be turning a corner now. Ive been a serial booer these past few seasons alongside a few others so im probably not the a position to say this, but I think as a group we all need to get behind the club and start backing them for the full 90 and just trust in who we have. 

 

For what funds we had available, and the amount of deadwood we got rid of, its got to be a 9/10 window surely

I know this is an old fashioned opinion, but I maintain the barometer of how good a transfer window you’ve had is where you end up in the league table at the end of the season.

They don't deserve a single lick of praise until we're back in the Premier League competing for Europe. Because thats where we were before the self-sabotage.

When's the last time we've had 14 (fourteen) new players coming in during one single transfer window?

It's going to be a hard task keeping all these players happy.

 

I can't think a single one of them has come without wanting decent amounts of game time.

 

I understand attacking players can be rotated a bit more, but defensively, there's less chance of rotation. Once a back 4 is established, its not often changed besides injury or cup games.

Ok the out goings are great n needed. But anyone claiming the incomings are great are nuts. After game 10 we can judge them and this window.

Think I'd hang fire on this. Yes we've nearly drained the swamp and that's awesome news.

 

But the incomings, let's give it 10 games before we celebrate that.

 

Let's be honest it's not beyond us to replace shite with sh1t. Chances are with so many arrivals we will be on a par with what we had (but better attitude) Yes we could be better. But also playing wise we could have bought a pile of poo.

 

 

So for me it's a thumbs up for draining the swamp. But I'll wait to see if we have just refilled that same swamp.

That is true but we've got so much deadwood an overloading of much of it does signal success

Way to early to judge if it was a good window, if anything I’ve got a slightly more pessimistic view on it based on experience over the last few years:

 

- The number one player I wanted out the door was Faes - still here. As is Okoli and BDCR, both huge parts of our double relegation.

- Yes the likes of Ayew and Daka have gone but it’s nothing to praise, their well-paid, long contracts have simply ended?

- Have we gone and replaced one set of dross with more dross on long contracts? Cullen, Chaplin, Burns etc. - Jury’s still out of course. 
- We finally get rid of our pointless, wage-consuming 3rd goalkeeper for free (Vietes)  - and replace him with one of Russels mate. Will probably never play. Why not promote youth to emergency 3rd choice? I get having 3 keepers when you’re flush in the PL/Champ, but we are a cash-tight in Lg1, these ‘sacrifices’ can be made

- We currently have 5 recognised centre backs. Plus Thomas. Plus Gray. Commendable would have been successfully shifting Okoli and Faes for fees.

- Russell made a big point at the start of the window of not wanting too many temp loans and having permanent signings instead. We ended up with 4 loanees. I don’t mind it, but just doesn’t make sense. 
- It was time for Hamza to go. Any fee for him would have been valuable ‘pure profit’. Other clubs are massively using this loophole. We let him go for free. 
 

There’s more but I’ll stop. Won’t fall for this ‘great window’ we all think we have every year, until we start seeing some real success. Just look at the last few years.

Of course it was a good window, we have a squad that looks to have good options in every position with subtle differences in those options offering different things (like Burns & Howell) & therefore far more balanced than recent seasons

 

Given the level of success in moving the number of players on, those moaning about the few left need to give their heads a wobble

When considering the level we’re at, it is one of the more exciting squads we’ve had in recent years.

As others said, way too early to comment on the success of transfers, especially considering some haven’t even kicked a ball for us.

 

My biggest concern is the lack of athleticism/pace within the squad and that should have been addressed as part of the squad refresh.

I haven't commented on this and wont comment on this negatively, this summer has, at least, made the club almost sustainable for a least a bit longer. 

 

Good window is obviously a bit of a stretch and is only really proven over time (at the moment, not looking particuarly good) but, lots of money generated, lots of over paid dross out, can't call it a bad window just for that reason.
