When was the last time a club of this size was in a worst state?

Blackburn’s history is much stronger than top of League One. They are traditionally a top tier or second tier team, similar to us. They are only a town and very close to one of the biggest clubs in the World.

True, but all of was before spending rules. Even if their owners wanted to, which they probably don't or even if someone extremely rich took them over there is only so much you can spend with their revenue.

Loads of times, until the early 00s they were generally a 2nd/3rd tier side, same for Burnley.

We just look so poor. The overhaul has not had the desired effect. That is down to RM in my view. He seems to sending the message out that his "important stats" are all that matters. Wrong. The stats that always matter are how many you score and how many you concede and your points. We need some solid old pros with leadership qualities and no link with Southampton!

Coventry were relegated to L1 in 2012 and had to groundshare with Northampton. then they were relegated to L2 in 2017, so it could get worse.

Man City were in the third tier, 98-99.

Cov are barely half the size of our club so not comparable.

Wolves in the 80’s is probably the best shout, maybe Sunderland recently.

Portsmouth had, I think, two administrations in their decline. Ipswich had been out of the top flight for nearly 20 years. Coventry were a bottom half Championship side for over a decade.

We have gone from Cup winners, European semi-finalists, top half regulars with money pouring into the club to a bottom half third division club within five years with the same owner and Director of Football. Most clubs collapse through a change that doesn't work. We have stayed with the same process throughout.

Rangers, 2012. Premier League to Third Division in just three short months. Scenes.

We could be on course for second fastest such descent into the fourth tier. With some help from the authorities it’s almost certain at this rate.

Imagine Villa being in League 1 in 10

years, 5 years after winning the FA cup. Closest parallel can think of now.

Portsmouth is a good one, though it was a slower decline and they hadn't reached our heights. Coventry were a pretty big and stable PL club before their slow slide down the leagues. But ultimately, the answer is:
