Forest had 3 seasons in L1 (06-08) before they were promoted. Never finished lower than 7th though.

Sunderland had a double relegation like us and it took them four seasons to get back to the Championship.

I think what’s been left behind a little in all the storm…. This is the lowest we’ve been in our history, not the last 5 years, 10 years, 20 years…. Our HISTORY!

There is no defending that. I think most of us would have been a bit “fine another year in league one, fair enough”

None of us should accept what looks like a mid table finish at best, and currently more likely, another relegation battle…

Blackburn under Venkys

Blackburn get some of the lowest attendances in the championship. They had that period under Jack Walker where they were able to over-achieve due to him spending way more than they ordinary could or would be allowed to do today but we have way more support than they do. The bottom of the championship/top of league one is where they would sit if gate receipts/support were taken into account. I think we win the biggest disaster for a club debate. If we don't get rid of Martin we look like we are going down. We have seen this before.

Has to be Wolves who were a decent side in the 70s, European finals, top 6 finishes, league cup win 79/80?

If my memory serves me right they dropped into the old Division 2, got back up to the top flight but then dropped all the way through to Division 4 (league 2) in the early to mid 80s before they signed Bull and Andy Mutch who seemed to score every week.

That's true. Most of the examples in this thread, the teams have finished in the top 10, unless they have run into real financial problems. The manager will go if we don't improve results.

What about Bradford Park Avenue?

Pre-WW1, they were a top flight club and had bigger attendance than us...

Until they folded completely.

(the recent blip is a phoenix club that gets less than 500 people)

Has to be Leeds.Though they didn’t finish lower than 5th in their 3 seasons in the third tier.

Off field matters, the media seemed to revel in the clubs finanicial collapse. It was rarely.off the back pages.

What’s sad is we are getting bent over left right and centre by the sh*tshow that is the UK is at the moment, football is a release for so many people and for some it is all they have.

The people who have ran this football club have ruined their only bit of happiness, now for three years running is just incomprehensible. I don’t think they realise how much genuine unhappiness they have served up for so many people. They can get f*cked and that’s why I won’t be spending a penny whilst they are still in charge and haven’t done for 2 years now

A mighty fall. Three times league champions in the 50s as well.

In terms of trophies we're like the 6th most successful English club in the last 30 years, and could be playing 4th division football next season. We just do the most extraordinary things, whether good or bad.

Yet they never had the TV money to prevent it.

Obviously a steep downfall but look at the Brentford’s of the world.

A much smaller club but a professional outfit and they’ve solidified their PL status, we’re the most amateurish club in the entire EFL.

Brentford have gone from strength to strength. I remember going to see them at their old ground with the 4 pubs in each corner, about 30 years ago, when they were in the fourth tier.

I think they set the trend for building a new stand then going bankrupt. The Shonki bros rings a bell.I think they owned Wolves for a bit and looked as dodgy as their name

95% of football clubs in this country have attendances increasing substantially post Covid, we are against the trend.

Peterborough have never sold out the away end until today and they were 23rd in the division

This is certainly unique in my lifetime. We were the only team I can think of to get relegated from the Premier League having record top half finishes in the previous five seasons. So a consistently top half team, to a League One struggler in five years is utterly beyond belief - like bordering on 2016 ridiculousness.

Even with Coventry and Portsmouth, they fell rapidly but they felt like symptoms of what happened to them rather than this. This is totally self inflicted. We got here ourselves.

Yeah, it isn't about the size and history of a club from generations ago.

We must have had close to a billion pounds come into the club in the past 12 years. Now bottom half in the third tier with the same people running it from a European era.

This has never been repeated.

Blackburn’s history is much stronger than top of League One. They are traditionally a top tier or second tier team, similar to us. They are only a town and very close to one of the biggest clubs in the World.
