I'm moving to Sheffield for uni tomorrow, I'd not really thought about much until now and it's quite sobering. I'm excited but it doesn't feel real still.

Sheffield uni is supposed to be ace. My girlfriend's sister goes there to study history.

Deep breaths and chin up. You're gonna have a great time. (just remember to study in between parties! :P

Actually it's worth a bit more than that. I've sellotaped a pound coin to it.

It's probably one of those fake old pound coins. In which case, it's still only worth £10 :P

I went to uni in Sheffield. Great city, I had a great time. Devonshire chippy ftw.

Sober isn't a word you'll use much in the next couple of weeks:thumbup: enjoy it

I did think that after writing it lol

Additionally I very nearly put that I don't want to grow but I suppose uni's the best place for that.

Also, impress your new acquaintances by suggesting full English at the Grindleford station cafe. Nothing better than being hungover and taking a train to the peaks for a fry up.

My spelling and grammar is usually impeccable (when I can be arsed) .

When I think back to the start of university, I realise how bad mine was. Pretty crazy how many people finish secondary school with such poor grammar and spelling.

Yep spelling isn't so important now ...    Give it a year or two and it will be even less important as more time will be spent on more pressing matters like what colour eye shadow the boys should wear if they decide to dress as a girl for the rest of the week ....    :)

For a few days, I'm sure your head will be spinning with all the new people, new places, social events, registration procedures....and that's before you've had a drink.

It'll all soon be the "new normal", though - and a great opportunity, whether your priorities are to study, to socialise, to do new stuff or just to live a more independent life.

Have fun!

You've reminded me of a childhood treat there.

My grandparents lived in Sheffield. On visits, we'd be taken out to the Peaks to scramble about on the rocks - and then the big treat was toasted cheese and onion sandwiches at the Sir William pub, Grindleford.

Grindleford is clearly the culinary capital of the North.

Good luck @Wookie, hope it all goes well.

I did my undergrad in Sheffield and loved it, it's a great city. Cheap ish place to live, plenty of decent boozers/nightlife and not too far from home. Also the greenest city in the UK (by area IIRC).

Which uni are you going? Whereabouts are you living?

Thanks, I'm going to Hallam and staying at Central Quay. Even now I'm in the car 20 minutes away and it doesn't feel like I'm about to start uni - maybe when I'm steaming later on I'll feel less like an imposter lol

Interesting little pub called the Fat Cat which is run by the Kelham Brewery which is on your doorstep, worth visiting for a pint when you don't fancy hitting the town. Used to do a decent pub quiz too which was full of students. It'll be a good little local to have right on your doorstep.

But otherwise I would just recommend throwing yourself into it mate. It is a bit surreal and overwhelming to start with but you'll soon settle in and like I said, it's a great City.

FYI I went to Hallam too, if you've got any questions feel free to send me a DM.
