Currently at the end of a break in Alicante. We come here a couple of times a year as the other half’s old man lives in the area.

Checked out of the villa at midday, and had a few hours to kill before heading to the airport for our flight home so decided to visit the lovely Santa Barbara Castle.

We were there barely an hour and returned to the car to find the window broken and it completely emptied. Suitcases. Hand luggage. Passports.

In the middle of the day in a busy touristy area.

No idea when we’ll be able to get the emergency passports from the consulate. Probably mid-next week.

Bit annoying that.

That's rubbish, I hope you get it fixed fairly painlessly. Are you sorted for somewhere to stay while you wait? We're only a couple of hours away and could put you up if you're stuck, hopefully the father in law has taken you in but if not give me a shout.

Thanks Deb that’s so kind of you to offer.

We’ve checked into a grotty hotel right in the middle of Alicante’s party zone. It’s basically a hostel, it stinks of shit, it has weird stains on the walls, and we’re listening to four on the floor club beats through the walls all night… But it’s right next to the consulate so hope to get it sorted soon.

Weird not having anything apart from a phone, a wallet, and the clothes on our back.

Might be an expensive trip even with the travel insurance.

Wow that is mental. Sorry to hear that. Hope you get sorted out asap.

Update. Guardia Nacional found our shit dumped at the side of the road somewhere and tracked us down via the case number and passports. Pretty unlucky and lucky at the same time.

They nicked a few gadgets and all of our smellies weirdly, but also left a bunch of pretty valuable stuff. Clearly hastily rummaged through and got rid.

Passports returned but we think invalid since we’ve started to process emergency travel documents and it means they get cancelled. We still need to visit the consulate on Monday.

Good to get all of our stuff back, probably a couple of grand worth of clothes and toiletries I won’t need to battle the insurance company for.

Proper traumatic stuff fella - all the best.

Glad to hear you at least got some of it back, I think it's quite common for the stuff to be dumped close by.  Hopefully you've been able to make the best of your unplanned extended trip, shitty hotel aside

Good that most of your stuff has been salvaged! Shame that it all happened of course, hopefully not too much hassle to get documents sorted and a safe return.

Well that was the easiest cash I've ever earned. Turns out all "experts" just waffle and don't read the prep material. I had read the prep material.

Someone somewhere told a company I was an expert in something. I wouldn’t call myself an expert in anything. Got invited onto their expert panel. I was going to say ‘no, this is stupid’, but then discovered I blag a four figure payout for every 90minute Zoom I attend.

Me right now…

They must be laughing all the way to their many other "jobs"

Went to Wickes to buy new tap for kitchen sink. Attempted to fit it, gave up and started messaging kitchen fitter friend after about 30 seconds, a new record

Taps can be a pain or a piece of piss, depending on the fitting. I assume you have a set of box spanners for a start?!!

Of COURSE not. But I'm glad you asked because I now know that what I saw in a "makes job look like a piece of piss" video is a box spanner.

Naturally, in the video the new tap didn't have completely different connections to the one it was replacing.

Equally typical is that the very reason for me wanting to replace the tap - a horrendous vibration and dripping when any other tap in the house is turned on that's been going on for months - has disappeared now I've fiddled with the pipes a bit

It'll take you a hell of a lot longer, but depending on how tight the space you're working in is (no euphemism intended), you could probably get away doing it with a couple of pairs of pliers, or an adjustable spanner, or some mole grips?

If you have patience, unlike me, you can eventually make it work lol

I could probably have got the current one out (although it wouldn't have been easy, it's a double sink with the dishwasher and washing machine either side so it's like Super Mario Brothers under there with ZERO space) but what I'm worried about is connecting up the new one.

I assumed that connections - bearing in mind the old one isn't that old at all - would be standard, what a NAIVE FOOL I've been
