Jack Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Today shown how much we missed Fulop. They looked dangerous everytime they broke forward and I don't feel confident one bit with Henderson in goal. Get him back, the sooner the better.
Linvoy Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 sorenson?Surely he wouldn't break the bank. He is wanting to leave i'd have him But I'd also have fulop who has more years in him and more chance of improving in both ability and value I say £2.5mil
Simi Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Get him or someone else. We will get nowhere with Paul Henderson.
Lillehamring Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 it's also very easy to say 'too much money', let's find another good keeper there are plenty about... first of all, no there are not, cause everyone is after goalies, top clubs would expect to have 3 or 4 as good or better than fulop... but more importantly, how many of those other 'great' keepers would want to come and stand in front of mac and kissa every week... fulop actually wants to play for us!!!
when_you're_smiling Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 £3 million is over priced. Just because Sunderland were muppets in signing Gordon for £9 million dosen't mean we should be forced to help pay for their mistake. If Fulop really was worth that much they wouldn't have brought Gordon in in the first place. If they are going to hold us to ransom I'd like us to try and get Iain Turner in on loan from Everton or you could probably purchase him for half of Fulop's transfer fee. He was fantastic for Sheff Weds recently.

If we take the risk of paying about 2 mil for another goalie and he turns no better than what we already have then we will be no better off. If it comes down to it and they really wont let him go for less than 3 mil then pay it, atleast we know what we are getting. He is proven at this level.
Churchill Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Maybe Sunderland want to get rid of fulop so they probaly thought if we call him back leicester will bid for him and we can get rid
shrood Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 If it comes down to it and they really wont let him go for less than 3 mil then pay it, atleast we know what we are getting. He is proven at this level. At the expense of strengthening the midfield though?! If we paid 3 mil for him then that'd be 7 mil that Milan has paid in fees alone this season. Not sure he's gunna shell out much more after that.

I can see exactly where you are coming from. Problem is I would rather serious money being brought in on realy quality midfielders as I believe that's more of a problem on the face of it and has been for getting near on five years now. With someone like Turner though you could get him in on loan know so we would have someone straight away. If it doesn't work out then send him back to Everton after a fortnight and go all out for Fulop. I believe Sheff Weds wanted to sign him permanently for the way he kept goal in the last half of the season exactly like we do with Fulop but they couldn't afford the fee that was asked that was rumoured to be about a paltry 250k. No harm in having a look, or if the scouts have other alternatives, and if Turner did come on loan and wasn't good enough then sod it go all out for Fulop. Whoever said it was spot on about needing someone in soon. If I was Fulop i'd tell Roy Keane to f-off and think about his personall development than covering the Gordon mistake. (well maybe )
Lichfieldfox. Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 I can't see anyone buying him for 3 million
Matt Posted 2 January 2008 Author Posted 2 January 2008 To be honest Sunderland had their pants down paying £13million Gordon, but if you want a decent Goalkeeper you will have to pay money, simple as that. I'd say £3million for a decent Goalkeeper was about right, I was guessing we may get him for £2million? £2.5million? So I was only slightly out £3million. All i'm gonna say is you have to spend money to make money, If Milan's willing not to pay £3 Million for him then he's not going to concede in his plan - To make money, or it's going to take longer than he expected put it that way.
WetFlannel Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 Have people forgot that other goalkeepers exist? 3 million is a ridiculous amount of money and we need to strengthen other areas with more urgency, rather than a goalkeeper. I'd rather see that money spent on someone like Norris, as he seems a player we need more, but this kind of money hasn't been mentioned around him. I would want to see the money spent in the midfield as its the worst I've seen in years...

Sooper Steve's shin Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 I reckon Henderson would do until the end of the season if we spend £3m instead on sorting the midfield. Then maybe we wouldn't need to rely on a goalkeeper so much. With less hype and a better bargaining position in the summer, we could maybe go again for Fulop at a more reasonable valuation (personally, I would say up to £1.5million) or use that cash to make a goalkeeper the top priority signing - maybe send Mike Stowell (if he's still at the club) scouting for talent in that area until the end of the season. I think Marton's been great and would love to see him signed, but not at risk of breaking the bank and suffering in other areas (i.e. midfield). I also agree with the comment that good keepers don't come along often, but I'm sure we could nab a good young'un (Mark Bunn at Northampton, maybe), a decent ex-Prem looking for a promotion challenge (Sorensen?) or even just offer better wages to a rival Championship club with a good goalkeeper.
Jonezy Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 I really rate Fulop, and some of me thinks that we should just pay the money and get him in. But some of me also thinks that Sunderland has reacted in a very un-gentlemanliked manner recalling him, when they still have 3 injury free keepers including their 9m starman. Its a dilemma really, as I want Fulop, but I really dont like being held at ransom. I hope MM bites the pride and offer 1,5/2m at a final offer, and then Sunderland can take it or leave it, and we can all move on. I haven't seen the goals QPR scored, but on the radio, our defense sounded like they were non-existing and you could think that a new goalie might have caused a little uncertainty, but Kis and Mac should still have coped better. We need some skillful wingers at this club, both for better attacking options and for the training, as all our defenders seem to skinned by every skillful winger they face and we can't defend crosses very well apparently. I think a majority of the goals scored against us comes from crosses, so we need some money to get some quality on the flanks both for attacking options and for training. I'm still confused about the Fulop situation though. I really would love him to be a Leicester player, but I really hate the game Sunderland are playing at. Still why the bloody hell wasn't this deal sorted in November? Or why didn't we put a future fee in that loan deal?
Trav Le Bleu Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 It's brinksmanship. Obviously Sunderland don't need him otherwise they wouldn't be offering him (I still can't understand how we got a season long loan with an option to recall half way - surely that's a a half season loan with an option to extend?) I think Sunderland will be open for negotiation when no other club makes a bid - though this might mean having to wiat until the end of Jan to get him back

The People's Hero Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 It was a season long loan with the option to recall at any time, it's pretty standard procedure. I'm sure I heard a chant for Gavin Ward ring round Loftus Road yesterday. What's he up to these days?
Manwell Pablo Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 End of disuccsion if it's 3 million, especially if the amounts I've herd we've paid for Hayles and Howard are right.
