davieG Posted 5 March 2008 Posted 5 March 2008 Academy Gear Up For Dallas Cup Posted on: Wed 05 Mar 2008 City's Youth Academy are gearing up for an 'opportunity of a lifetime' with the squad flying out to the United States later this month (March 14-25). After winning the FA Premier Academy League title last season, the starlets have been invited to take part in the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXIX alongside the likes of Liverpool, Sao Paulo, Benfica and Eintracht Frankfurt. The Foxes have been placed in Super Group A. There are three groups with the winners and best runner-up from the three mini-leagues then meeting in the semi-finals. City will take on CF Monterrey on Sunday, March 16, Andromeda a day later (March 17) before coming up against Sao Paulo at the Pizza Park Stadium on Wednesday, March 19. The stadium has a capacity of 21,000. "It will be a fantastic experience for the lads and an opportunity of a lifetime," said Academy Manager Jon Rudkin. "I have been fortunate enough to attend the tournament before with the likes of Richard Stearman and Levi Porter when they were playing for the Under-14s. "It's a well-organised tournament featuring some top clubs from around the world and it will prove to be a big test for us but one that we are looking forward to." The squad for the trip to Dallas has yet to be finalised but Rudkin admits that there will be a youthful feel to the traveling party. He added: "We are in the process of formulating our squad for the tournament but it is more than likely going to have a young look to it. "It is an Under-19s tournament but several of our schoolboys will have travelled and they will look to get as much out of it as possible. "The trip will provide the lads with some further experience as they continue to progress at the football club."
davieG Posted 5 March 2008 Author Posted 5 March 2008 With 3 games in 4 days and considering the age of the players I assume we're taking a large squad of at least 22 players.

Mark Posted 5 March 2008 Posted 5 March 2008 Who is likely to be in this squad? Hopefully the likes of Andy King and Ashley Chambers make the trip, some of youth teamers from last season are already missing out as it is through loans (Gradel, Odihambo, Cisak) and first team duty with us. (Mattock) Leicester City vs Sao Paulo is a bit mouthwatering.
Smudge Posted 5 March 2008 Posted 5 March 2008 Is anyone off here going? I might. Three hour flight to Dallas, is it Worth it?
Smiffy Posted 5 March 2008 Posted 5 March 2008 I might. Three hour flight to Dallas, is it Worth it? Cheapest flight I could find was $215 and I'd have a hard time justifying it. Where would you fly from Smudge?

Webbo Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 OS A Billy McKay strike was not enough to prevent Leicester City's Youth Academy from slipping to a last-gasp 2-1 defeat against CF Monterrey in their opening Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXIX fixture. The Foxes, who jetted out to the States on Friday, more than matched their Mexican opponents at Richland College Fields but were undone by a last minute effort despite McKay's (pictured) goal. Article continues Advertisement However, Academy Manager Jon Rudkin was delighted with the team's performance. He said: "The lads did really well especially in the second half and were unlucky to lose. "It was a good test for them against a technically sound Mexican side." City are back in action tomorrow (Monday) when they take on local Dallas team Andromeda SC.
Paul Ramsey Posted 17 March 2008 Posted 17 March 2008 http://www.dallascup.blogspot.com/ Big upset! Andromeda, the national champions from Dallas, certainly had a chance against Sao Paulo, the giant club from Brazil. But who saw this coming? Andromeda won the Super Group match at Pizza Hut Park, 5-2. Whoa! Sao Paulo came all the way from Brazil, but now they are seriously up against it, before the tournament is even a day old. In group play, it's all about winning your first game. Win the game, and you can control your group. Lose, and the pressure is really on. One more loss will kill any chances of going through to elimination play. Sao Paulo plays at 4 p.m. Monday at Richland against Monterrey, and you had better believe the Brazilians will upset about Sunday's showing. Looks like the 'easier' of the fixtures may be a little trickier than anticipated. Still, two wins could be enough.

Mmm thats my idea of a stadium...now if we can go straight from there to "Fosters Field"
FilboFox Posted 17 March 2008 Posted 17 March 2008 Should of won apperently. A Leicester City trait... looks like no matter what age group, Leicester just can't seem to finish off teams and then get their arses bitten because of it!

Inattention to detail has let the first team down but it's no different with this. I guess the moral of the story is, if you really want to know what happens, be there yourself. But if you can't be there for whatever reason I'd have thought the club could do better than this.
purpleronnie Posted 17 March 2008 Posted 17 March 2008 I'm in houston for 6 months I have only just read this post. thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't see that our kids have anything to fear from São Paulo - and the experience can only be good for us in the future.
