When people on here make up “hilarious” names for managers like “Bodgers” or “Blooper”.

Pooper is great though

I just ask them to move their bag. No one has said no yet but they definitely huff and puff about it.

I prefer to ask on behalf of someone, eg 'Do you mind moving your bag so this person can sit down'

Somehow this makes the bag blocker look like an even bigger douche bag.

Yeah I always feel like saying something but I’ve got no in between switch so I just stay quiet otherwise I’ll just end up having a massive argument with them.

Congratulations!

  • Volunteering
  • Part-time job at Tesco or the local hospital
  • Letter writing to the local paper complaining about young people these days
  • Drink super-strength cider in the public library at 9am
  • Spend an hour every lunchtime arguing for senior citizen discount in Greggs
  • Develop a niche porn channel
  • Practice rubbing your finger around a glass until you can produce the 'brown note'

Yes. Until you get really old and rarely wake up. Life, eh?

It takes some getting used to and a lot of readjustment to the new daily life. I was like you for a couple of years, trying to find my "new identity".

I always thought of myself as Nick the Paramedic and so did others. Now I'm just Nick.

I started volunteering a couple of years ago. There's a number of volunteering opportunities if you look. Not all are in charity shops. Working with youth groups, older people groups, volunteer driving for the elderly/disabled. Men also are involved with the WRVS hospital cafés. Some charities need volunteer organisers/financial/technical people. Just a suggestion.

I had to accept the relative inactivity of retirement compared to my occupation which was full on for 30+ years and that took time.

My advice is, don't fall into idleness even if it means going food shopping more often or visits to nice places for a look around and a snack/lunch.

Something suited to you will fall into place and you will develop a new routine.

Also, take most retirees that say "I don't know how I had time to work" with a pinch of salt. They probably spend days watching Countdown and every shit mid afternoon quiz show plus the home improvement/escape to the country/Homes Under The Hammer/Find it Flog it stuff.

They're probably quite bored/boring.

Buy a better toaster.

I have a lovely 4 slice one from Asda that has being going strong for years. One side set for toast, the other for crumpets.

How one wonders are MPs taking thousands in hand outs, while in the corporate world anything over about 100 quid is not allowed.

Because boring Americans with their HR culture as well as back office compliance people who make up silly rules to justify their otherwise pointless and entry level jobs in the limited period they have before technology takes over their tickboxing say it's not allowed. Good on the MPs!!

Boasting about not putting your heating because it's "too early"  is just sad, insecure machoism akin to those weirdos who take pride in never going to the doctors.  It's a system to regulate house temperature, and the date this happens is utterly irrelevant.  Get a life.

Kids that are taken out to restaurants and are instantly given a tablet or phone to watch or play something. Not entirely against tablets, but it seems some parents are quick to give them to their kids for an easy life.

Another (rather jokey and lesser) example of suffering being held up as some badge of honour or necessary rite of passage. Perplexing.

I wouldn't worry if it means child behaves and rest of restaurant can enjoy their meal

It isn't though, is it.

Corporate boxes with all the booze and grub you can cram in your fat face, for example.

I think people are more concerned about delaying high energy bills for as long as possible rather than trying to look cool tbh

People banging on about their retirement and being bored.

Get a job!

Or is this now the retirement thread and we should moan about stuff in the retirement thread?

Old people love a good moan.
