Durnerz Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 "Hes the type of man who does things on the cheeeeeeeeap, he gave his girlfriend a watch that he found in the street, he buys knock off DVD's he'd rob his own gran......hes a knock off Nigel, knock off Nigel manages Lei-cester Ci-teee' Good luck Nigel! Thats the half time entertainment sorted anyway
Pulpster Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 Hi guys, Carlisle fan here. Looking forward to two good games against you next season, will be a new ground to tick off for me on my way to the 92 one day. Thought I'd swing by and give you some info on Pearson at Carlisle. His team performed poorly most of the one season he was in charge. However he was not unpopular with the fans, though few would rate him highly. He kept us up but only just, our on loan goalkeeper scoring in the fifth minute of injury time to keep us in the Football League. He has one mitigating factor at Carlisle though, and its a big one. A big fat one. Michael 'beep' Knighton the chairman who gave him no money at all to assemble a squad with. Anyway, best of luck next year guys (except against us).
Babylon Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 This is just a small sample of that the saints fans have said about this. Those moaning should take a long look at this, written by fans who have seen him work!!! "Good luck to the bloke, he deserves to do well" "Have a feeling that Leicester will surprise a few next season" "Makes me even more sad to think we let him go. Still, I wish him all the very best with Leicester and I have every faith that he will prove to be a massive success for them." "Very best of luck to the big fella. Never given a chance to prove himself here, I hope he does well for Leicester." "this makes me feel more disapointed about his initial dpearture" "Such a shame we let him go. What a waste good luck to him." "Good luck to him. I honestly think letting Pearson go could be one of the biggest mistakes we will ever make." "He will do well IMO And to be honest they have a bloody good up and coming manager, at least we have not got to play them." "he did what he did with the crap we called a team imagine what he could do with some dosh..." "Our loss" "He is likely to do well there as he would with saints if we had kept him. Still he is gone and we must move on." "I think NP will be a decent manager. Football has been crying out for discipline and he provides it." "I think Pearson will do well if given the chance." "Good luck Fearsome. I've got a sneaking suspicion that you will be up in this division next season as champions and we will still be here or passing you on the way down." "Good Luck to Nigel I think he will turn out to be an excellent manager. He will have cash to spend at Leicester. I wonder if he will come in for any one at Saints?" "Good luck Nigel. I wish we had had the money to keep you at Saints." "In our case Pearson had next to nothing to work with. The side was full of ****. The real quality in the youth team has been and gone. And there was no money in the bank to spend. Despite all that he turned what was a sinking ship round and by the skin of our teeth kept us up. For me he was a major plus point of last season and letting him go was a genuine mistake." "Well I'm delighted that Pearson has managed to find himself a new post so quickly. Not sure whether working for Mandarec is a good choice for him though. When you consider that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, it only goes to show just how envious Manderec is of our club and every Saints. Good luck Nigel, you'll need it!" "Good luck to Nigel. Leicester have got themselves a good man. Should do well under him. I only hope that our paths don't cross at the end of next season - us down, them up. Reply With Quote" "listening to him talking now, i so wish we had kept hold oof him. GRRRrrRRRrRr!" "Their gain is our loss!! Good Luck Nigel" "NP will do really well with the Foxes and I wish him all the best, I wish he was still with us. Leicester will easily gain promotion next season I am sure - their squad is far superior to the other teams down there and with Nige at the helm and Mandicks cash they should bounce back easily." "Excellent news. I don't think I've ever been so interested in how a former manager is progressing. But's that's the influence Nigel Pearson had. The very best of luck to the big man. And good luck to Lee Hoos too. I suppose I'd better take him off my contact list now. "Lucky lady foxes is all I can add! I have to work in Leicester a fair bit - just might pop along to a match or two so I can drool again" Let's just remember how we voted to keep him at St Marys: poll And they achieved the same figures in a Radio Hampshire poll. Leicester fans should be reassured. You've got a good 'un."
Corky Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 "Lucky lady foxes is all I can add! I have to work in Leicester a fair bit - just might pop along to a match or two so I can drool again"" Well, ladies on here, does he float your boat as well?
Who ate all the pies? Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 I probably reacted to the appointment like the rest of you at first, a bit underwhelmed even jokingly saying he will only last 10 games. But the more I think about it, the more I hear what the bloke has to say, the more I hear how Southampton fans rate him, the better I feel. Unfortunately there are always going to be 'fans' who moan about the manager (whoever it was), these are the 'fans' that gave MON the excuse to leave. For once it would be good if we could all forget about the past and the bollox about it not being a big name. And get behind the Manager, Team and Chairmen proving that we are actually fans of this football club not just a bunch of moaning w@nkers. 'Pearson Sort 'Em Out'
Guest Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 Well, ladies on here, does he float your boat as well? He's no Ally McCoist......
lcfc81 Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 Thank goodness its not John Gregory!!!!! This news has made my day. I'm glad we got Pearson. We need a strong personality to get some of our players into shape. I'm reading he has worked with the England U21s? So he might have worked with Mattock and Stearman? Even Better. COME ON YOU BLUES!!!!!
StroudFox Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 I am not sure how I feel about the news. I am neither disappointed nor delighted. Guess I will just see how he does.
Hullfox Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 Nige Testimonials You made those up you bugger. Supporting our new manager won't win you any friends on here you know.
syston_fox Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 I am not sure how I feel about the news. I am neither disappointed nor delighted. Guess I will just see how he does. Yeah Im the same.... I don't have the excitement of when we got Martin Allen and Holloway but don't have the disappoinment of when Megson was appointed..... I'll give him a chance though and hopefully he'll at least bring a bit of stability and allow us to start building for the future!
Legend_in_blue Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 I've just watched the press conference again! The more I think about this, and the more positivity I read from rival supporters, the more I think 'YES, COME ON!!!' Nigel Pearson = well safe! Come on, just bring it. August 9 can't come soon enough.

iancognito Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 All the best to Pearson and his new coaching team. If I have one hope it's that he builds a team and doesn't just buy one. Pick out our three or four best experienced heads, pick out three or four of the academy lads and then three or four new boys to give us fresh impetus. If he can clear the decks of the remaining deadwood, he should free up enough of the budget to give us a fighting chance.
Daggers Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 The more I think about this, and the more positivity I read from rival supporters, the more I think 'YES, COME ON!!!' Oh. So the positivity you read here counted for nothing then? Oh..
Scow Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 I think like a few on here wasn't particularly inspired by the appointment. However, we need to put this in to perspective. We're a League One Club, we have Milan Mandaric as Chairman, and the club is a mess. So, who in their right mind, with a decent track record, would want to take over a sinking shit, sorry, ship? So what if we have a great stadium, facilities and a bit of money behind us - that doesn't mean we can automatically expect to appoint the likes of Allardyce, Davies, McClaren or even Ince. I have been guily of it myself - thinking we can aim higher just because of who we are. In reality, we're just a big club relative to League One. Look at Leeds - they took on McAllister, a guy who had been out of the game for a few years (down to his wife's illness). He wasn't exactly a success at Coventry though. I knew there were a few Southampton fans who rated Pearson, but from what I've seen on this thread and other websites, there's hardly been a bad word to say about him. On the other hand, as pointed out by Ric/Flynny, the same thing could have been said about Kelly at the end of the 05/06 season We've made the choice now and we just need to support the guy.

smokey Posted 21 June 2008 Posted 21 June 2008 Anyone got any idea who his backroom staff will be??? Hopefully Gerry will keep his job as reserves boss and he will just bring in an Assistant Manager and First team coach!

I think the bad words have been conveniently ignored but I'm not going to dredge them up because the appointment's been made and it's what happens now that matters. The support for the club will be there whatever and Pearson will share in that. But what he actually needs to do is help himself by blending a team together, getting them fit, encouraging them to play some decent football and getting some results. I doubt anyone will grumble at him then.
davieG Posted 21 June 2008 Posted 21 June 2008 I'm hoping to stay for gold watch - Pearson New Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson insisted today he is here for the long haul. And he joked: “It would be great to end up with a gold watch from the chairman.” Pearson shrugged off suggestions he has been handed a “poisoned chalice” - and probably did not need reminding he has become City's sixth manager in just 16 months. He said: “I can't get bogged down with what has happened at this club before. It's what happens now. “My job is about getting results and I don't intend to be here short-term, I want to be here long-term. “If I'm not, then I will not have done my job.” The 44-year-old former Southampton manager said he had met Milan Mandaric on four occasions in the period when the City chairman was deliberating over his choice. “I think we will have a good working relationship, which is not just about the cheque book,” he said. “But I would be a fool if I thought he was going to tolerate failure. I know what people expect.” Pearson is well aware that City are already being tipped as one of the favourites to bounce back into the Championship at the first attempt. He said: “There has to be a reality check. We must never think it's a foregone conclusion that we will gain promotion. What we have to do is give ourselves the best chance of success.” And Pearson had a warning to the players about what to expect as they experience life in the third tier of the English game. He will meet them for the first time on July 1 at the start of the pre-season preparations. He said: “The games will come thick and fast and we have to cope with the demands of the division. There will be no room for passengers.” Pearson has been involved in three last-ditch survival bids. As manager of Carlisle United, he helped to keep the club in the Football League at the end of the 1998-99 season. Then he was assistant manager to Bryan Robson at West Brom when they stayed in the Premier League on the final day of the 2005-06 campaign. Last season, Southampton rallied from a goal down to defeat Sheffield United on the last day of the Championship season - and that sentenced City to relegation after their draw at promoted Stoke. “This time the pressure is to succeed and get promotion. In the past, it's been about staying up. I've had varied experiences, but, ultimately, I enjoy managing,” said Pearson. “It has to feel right - and this one does. The fans will want us to be successful, and I want to be successful.” Pearson would not comment on reports that he will recruit West Brom reserve-team manager Craig Shakespeare as his No.2. “I can see where that comes from because I also played briefly with Craig at Sheffield Wednesday,” said Pearson. “It's just speculation about my backroom staff - not sure one way or the other. I've only just walked through the door.” It was also suggested that Steve Walsh - former chief scout at Newcastle and not the City legend - would become assistant manager.
reynard Posted 21 June 2008 Posted 21 June 2008 You make some valid criticisms of my tirade and in hindsight I may have been premature. I am realistic to know we would be limited in our options but I am still less than enthused by his appointment. It wasn't his team, though, and he had to deal with a chairman even more deranged than Mandaric. it was still a dismanl team playing dismal football and badly managed. i saw several of their games that season. But it was early in his carreer and hopefully he will have learnt from it. You got BSE or something? I can think of at least two City managers of the recent past who have plumbed far lower depths than Robbo - the initials IH and PT may help to remind you. No I don't have and despite your suggestions I still believe BR to be the worst ever manager. True, but Roeder and Allardyce signed the players, not him. But he was still part of their coaching team and was in charge for the drubbing by manutd (but also to his credit in charge when they beat Stoke 4-1) So why did so many managers/clubs want to hire him? In any case as long as players (and their agents) are happy with the terms and conditions at this club, they will sign - the experience of the past year shows that. And sack him? Haven't heard him linked with too many managerial posts but prepared to be wrong on that. I know managers have knifed us so often in recent times, but Pearson hasn't been one of them. Tearing him to shreds, a full SEVEN weeks before his side will kick a ball in anger, will serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever. Give the bloke a break FFS! Happy to give him a chance and very much hope he proves my doubts to be completely wrong. if at the end of the season we have achieved promotion I will be the first to come on here and say how wrong i was to doubt this appointment.
craigadams22 Posted 21 June 2008 Posted 21 June 2008 I must say I didn't want John Gregory in at Leicester City, I hate the man. But this Nigel Pearson seems alright as a Manager, He saved Southampton Football Club on the last day of the season. He could do the same for us by getting Leicester City promoted back into The Championship & then The Premier League. Regards Craig Adams 23

Other than that, they're my thoughts exactly. I'm pleased with the appointment of Pearson because it could have been a lot worse. He's young and seems to be very ambitious so hopefully he'll be here for years to come. Although judging by our previous record, that will be some feat.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 When I saw this thread title I thought that he had recanted his evil ways and become a priest.
Matt Posted 26 April 2009 Posted 26 April 2009 As we're bringing old threads up, time to reflect on all our posts on the subject when Pearson was appointed no just an individual who made a thread about the disappointment of the appointment, everyone happy with there opinions and post's on the subject? I'm quite happy with mine, Sat on the fence really. Not much more to add really.I was worried, very worried when we were first linked and when this really start speeding up I felt sick, then I read some comments and it reassured me abit, I'm not over the moon, It's not an exciting appointment, and my first reaction to Pearson was - Boring, but again after reading some view from Southampton fans I feel different about him. As you say though - Does Milan not learn? 3 years? Why? If he/or any of the other manager past or in the future really think there right for this job, have something to prove, give them a 1 year contract which will lead to a longer contract should the impress. If they want the job they'll accept, If they say no I want longer - Fuk em' But, his real test is next season. However I do fear if and when we lose 2 games in a row next season and a few fans jump on the Pearson out bandwagon
