I think if you're going to host a tournament like that then you should be accomodating to the athletes. If you value you vax mandate higher then that's fine but don't host it.

Don't host it because a couple of stupid twats don't want to follow the rules? Jeez.

Patience has run out. I've with Macron on this, piss them off and make it as difficult as possible for the them. No sympathy from me.

These are rules within that country, I think all the other grand slams wouldn't require vaccination and nor should they.

Either wave it off or don't host it because it just devalues the tournament

Apparently, Novak had covid (PCR confirmed) mid December.  On the back of previous infection that he’s suffered, he is the equivalent of boosted!

unless they are really going to kick him out because his form wasn’t filled in correctly, he will win his case.

I know it’s the World Number one and all that but think it would unfair on all the other players who have gone through the right procedures to cancel the tournament just because one is having a moan about not being allowed special treatment .

As far as I've read he DID have an exemption due to having the virus on Dec16th?

He also went through all the documentation  like visas etc to travel half way round the World to play.

These docu6 were all verified as satisfactory prior to his departure by the necessary bodies.

I think they are just making a scapegoat out of him.

It will backfire on them terribly and make the state of victoria , the Aussie tennis body and the PM look utterly stupid in the end.

Interesting article here regarding the Novak situation. https://www.news.com.au/sport/tennis/novak-djokovic-court-documents-confirmed-he-tested-positive-for-covid-in-december/news-story/8bf69b691cc5734c6c08a2d6e4120351

Quote

“The following has now been clarified as a category for which you may be eligible for a temporary medical exemption: Recent PCR-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection (after 31 July 2021) where a vaccination can be deferred until six months after the infection,” TA said in a letter to players and their teams.

The same document also made it clear that any applications for a medical exemption needed to be sent “no later than Friday 10 December 2021” — six days before Djokovic tested positive — meaning a positive Covid test would have come too late for TA’s exemption guidelines.

Same article shows Novax out and about at an awards do in Belgrade the day after his positive test.

I don't see how it's special treatment to not be arrested because of your vaccination status tbh.

I wasn't say cancel it on the grounds Novak can't play either, I'm saying if your country is this petrified and is willing to implement these kind of measures for people regarding vaccine status then I don't see why they would host a tournament like this. Isn't their quarantine for fans ridiculous as well? So if anyone wanted to travel to it they'd have to quarantine first.

If you want to play in a tournament like this then you should respect the rules of the host nation. If you don’t value vaccinations that’s fine, but don’t participate.

He didn’t have the documents to support his visa application, it’s that simple. Anyone wishing to enter Australia needs to follow the conditions of their visa, they can apply for exemptions, but if they don’t have supporting documentation when challenged by boarder force you won’t be given permission to enter.
No scapegoating, it’s the same rules for everyone regardless of your occupation.

That’s not a reason for an exemption, it may have met Tennis Australia’s guidelines to participate in the tournament, but it didn’t meet the governments requirements for entry to the country.

I would be shocked if he wins his case. Other participants have already been refused and deported for the same conditions.

He is one of the greatest sportsman in the game.

The Australian  government  is now just taking the p1ss out of him and it IS trying to make an example.

They should just tell him he cant play and  deport him. End of story.

Instead they are humiliating him because of his stance and ethnicity(Its a known fact the Aussies dont like Novak anyway)

Imagine something like this happening to Cristian Ronaldo?

Absolute bullcrap… he has been told he will be deported, like other tennis players and officials. He has made the choice to stay and fight the deportation in court.
That is of course his legal right, but his own choice. Nothing to do with his ethnicity! I’m not even sure where you got that from.

It would be end of story if Novak hadn’t made the choice to stay and fight his deportation.

If Ronaldo was playing in Australia and didn’t meet the requirements of his visa, he too wouldn’t be allowed into the country.

Why should we have different rules for individuals because they happen to be good at sport?

What about the r other lady  tennis player they let through on the same basis as Novak.

She even  started to play the tournament.

THEN the Novak case crops up and the officials had to find her and she was deported!

Farcical.

I didnt realise Novak was offered the deportation, in which case his team must think they have a big chance of winning tonight's case. If they do Australian officials are going to look very stupid!!

I don't know what their current status in terms of cases etc is like but if that system is working then they will carry on.

I know here its pretty much a free for all (except Wales) so obviously a very different approach.

TBH He'll probably get this visa issue sorted out and will play.

They are probably trying to make a point.

It is illegal, but the UN is pathetic and greedy little aussies are supporting the hatemonger and racists that implement it.

I cannot possible begin to imagine the suffering of these poor people... 8-9 years FFS

Then of course there is the Murragupan family, mum dad two little girls, volunteered and worked in theor community, wanted and welcomed in a small town... the government reopened a prison on xmas island at the cost of more than $150 MILLION $ to lock this family and ONLY this family on it.
