Guest ttfn Posted 25 August 2008 Posted 25 August 2008 I've been to both of the first two home games of the season and come out of each with one question - Does Andy King have something on Nigel Pearson? I don't see anything to King's play which couldn't be offered by any bog standard professional footballer. He is not as strong as Weso in the tackle and not as energetic either. On the ball he looks composed but seems incapable of either passing the ball forwards or over 3 yards. I'd like to hear everyone else's thoughts on this...

King is alot more composed on the ball compared to Weso and is a much better passer, Kingy is the playmaker in the middle of the park I think we missed last season. Someone who can get there head up and can spread the play to both wings and can play good balls to the strikers. Deffinetly worth his place in the team.
act smiley Posted 25 August 2008 Posted 25 August 2008 In all honesty, I think we could go with any of the players we'vegot at the minute and have a solid option in that position. Which is obviously a good thing, but just puts a player who is good but isn't particularly special under the microscope. King is a good but unspectacular player going forward, tries the right things most of the time and passes well, defends okay too, I don't like his corners, but other than that I can't think of anything he's actively bad at. Wesolowski is a strong contender being played in that position but presumably the choice for King is that the slightly more attacking role that he tends to play will be needed that little bit more than a player to break up opposition attacks, when we're up against teams like Stockport and Tranmere. Either way, he's not a world-beater but he's perfectly capable of doing a decent job - its not like he's Sergio Hellings or something.
TrickyTrev Posted 25 August 2008 Posted 25 August 2008 Hes been competent but not spectacular. From what I have seen Wesolowski is a better prospect.
Koke Posted 25 August 2008 Posted 25 August 2008 Too many side-way passes and offers very little going forward, in my humble opinion. His corners and set pieces are second rate rubbish, and to me he is too much of a standard player. I'm not really a fan of him, and believe if Weso actually steps up his game a gear or two, he'd easily surpass King.
Benji Posted 25 August 2008 Posted 25 August 2008 I thought he was terribly uninvolved against MK but didn't think it was worth the response that is coming in this thread soon enough

Koke Posted 25 August 2008 Posted 25 August 2008 true but until then King and Oakley in CM has looked the most balanced we've had in a long time I think he's being carried at the moment. He's not doing anything of note. When we face tougher oppositions, then I do reckon he'll stand out as the weak link out there.
RowlattsFox Posted 25 August 2008 Posted 25 August 2008 I think King has the potential to express himself a bit more, like he did towards the end against Stockport, at the minute he's in keep it safe mode and hopefully he get more confident as the season goes on. Wesolowski will get his chance, either against Fulham or almost certainly against Hartlepool. Its up to him to show that hes a better option to partner Oakley, King has obviously impressed Pearson because he wasn't part of the first team during pre-season.

When we face tougher oppositions, then I do reckon he'll stand out as the weak link out there. you don't NEED him to do anything of note, you need at least 1 midfielder that just keeps things simple and links with the defence, that's the role he's been playing and his height has helped with set pieces at both ends
lildave3 Posted 25 August 2008 Posted 25 August 2008 I think he's the best to partner Oakley with atm, I think they balance each other out and are not too similiar like Oakley and Clemence. I'm a big fan of Weso but I don't think the pairing of Oakley and Weso offers enough going forward.
The Blur Posted 25 August 2008 Posted 25 August 2008 I recall few years ago some posters who view the reserves and youth matches was raving about what creative force King are so basically possibly he could offer us an option going forward but judging from the posters here and the general option overall he is playing it safe Nigel must saw something in him in training where there is less pressures and allowing King to express himself?
Narborough Bod Posted 25 August 2008 Posted 25 August 2008 you don't NEED him to do anything of note, you need at least 1 midfielder that just keeps things simple and links with the defence, that's the role he's been playing and his height has helped with set pieces at both ends spot on. As long as he is not making horrendous mistakes he his doing a decent job breaking things down playing a simple ball and backing up Oakley. I'm not comparing him skill wise, but under MON, Lennon was the key player. He left and the team fell to pieces. On the other hand you could compare them, because Lennon's replacement (Jones) liked the treatment table as much as King's replacement (Weso).

And Wesolowski plays defence-splitting passes every time he's on the ball, right? As do Clemence and Kishishev as well, I'm guessing? Behave yourself. King is the player who best compliments Oakley, and at the minute they are the central midfield pairing in a winning, unbeaten team. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

leicesterseddon Posted 25 August 2008 Posted 25 August 2008 this season i think king has been our weakest player. he offers youth and the faint glimmering hope that one day he might develop into a competent league 1 player, but not much else. i was right down by the corner flag at stockport, and all his corners were below schoolboy standard. but he did score a cracking goal last season

Corky Posted 25 August 2008 Posted 25 August 2008 He hasn't been spectacular, but he's hardly done anything wrong either. It wasn't his best game on Saturday but our midfield has looked a lot stronger this season. We are not being over-run and out-paced as we were last, and the previous three years. Weso is a player I like, but so far I've seen nothing to warrant dropping King or Oakley.
davieG Posted 25 August 2008 Posted 25 August 2008 His run with the ball towards the penalty area from midfield won us the free kick that led to the first goal, one could argue the turning point of the game.
Daggers Posted 25 August 2008 Posted 25 August 2008 Was there a special on cider & internet today or have I missed some International Day Of The Idiot? Where the **** did this cretinous thread come from?
The Blur Posted 25 August 2008 Posted 25 August 2008 If you were reading peoples posts years ago, why did you start the thread in General chat about, what not to say or whatever it was? Between the gap of few years ago and to the present I gave up reading posts so I wanted to check whether if there are any stuff unknown to me that I should know about or something like that Also used that thread as a cheap excuse to introduce myself
