Asha Posted 14 May 2009 Posted 14 May 2009 Is your fear a phobia? Symptoms of a specific phobia: Marked, Excessive Fear: A persistent and intense fear that is triggered by a specific object or situation. Immediate Anxiety Response: The fear reaction appears almost instantaneously when the object or situation is presented. The response may resemble a panic attack. Recognition That Fear Is Irrational: Adults with specific phobias recognize that their fears are out of proportion to reality. Children may not have this awareness. Avoidance or Extreme Distress: The sufferer goes out of his or her way to avoid the object or situation, or endures it with extreme distress. Life-Limiting: The phobia significantly impacts the sufferer’s school, work or personal life. Six Months Duration: In children and teens, the symptoms must have lasted for at least six months. Bit worrying that I personally come under all 6 of these. Good job one of my relatives is a counsellor, really.
Koke Posted 14 May 2009 Posted 14 May 2009 I fear failure. Despite being the 2nd oldest of 5 children, I've always been mummy's boy. I fear being labelled a failure by my mum, even though I'm doing OK in life. I can take on the society. I can handle the pressure of anyone, except my mum. She is my biggest weakness.
Koke Posted 14 May 2009 Posted 14 May 2009 Another thing, I think a lot of people live in fear. It's a fear of the unknown and it's a fear of failure. It's a fear of change and a fear of the new. Also another major factor is that a lot of people simply don't know what they are naturally talented at. Many are reasonably good at all things, but not masters of anything [including me] - or so they think.
welck12 Posted 14 May 2009 Posted 14 May 2009 I've got a fair of being stuck in a rut so to speak. Scared of being in the same place in a few years doing the same things over and over. The thought of staying in the same place doing the same things for years on end freaks me out; i think thats why i love traveling, as its never the same for more than a day or so
21st Century Fox Posted 19 May 2012 Posted 19 May 2012 I was thinking of starting a new thread about phobias but I dug this up. I have a fear of fish (particularly their skin), dried, cracked earth and tortoise shells (When I was younger I was watching a Newsround report on a really old tortoise and the pattern on it's shell made me retch). Pretty random.

I have a fear of fish (particularly their skin), dried, cracked earth and tortoise shells (When I was younger I was watching a Newsround report on a really old tortoise and the pattern on it's shell made me retch). Pretty random. My signature pretty much sums up fear. I don't have a phobia. Though I'm sure there isn't one for failure.
Fox92 Posted 20 May 2012 Posted 20 May 2012 Generally failing, drowning, fire/being burnt, being single forever (), aircraft accidents, and death. ... However, although I'm cautious I don't live in fear, otherwise I won't live.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 20 May 2012 Posted 20 May 2012 Heights. I dont do ladders. I can feel physically sick even watching a tv program that say looks down over the edge of the empire state bfinding. Dying myself doesnt bother me, so long as id know the people around me can cope. My missis has a phobia of peas.
Saxondale Posted 20 May 2012 Posted 20 May 2012 Snakes. Probably phobia more than fear. Pointless, limbless, conniving, sneaky, cold-blooded, c*ntish excuses for creatures. I would make owning a pet snake punishable by life imprisonment and breeding the things punishable by death. I'm 100% serious.
Zingari Posted 20 May 2012 Posted 20 May 2012 getting dementia , snakes , spiders , rats and getting dementia
leicsmac Posted 21 May 2012 Posted 21 May 2012 Flying (especially takeoff) ticks all 6 of Asha's criteria for me. Even thinking about it makes me tense. Which is annoying as I know how irrational it is given I have an intimate knowledge of how an aircraft stays in the air. Not really a fan of big spiders or heights either.
Tom17LCFC Posted 21 May 2012 Posted 21 May 2012 Spiders, i'm like a big girl around them. Can't stand them! Being out in open water as well, where there's no land on the horizon. Probably not the best as I used to be a lifeguard!
Ozwin Posted 21 May 2012 Posted 21 May 2012 Wasps and Moths. I have literally slept downstairs before because there was a moth on the wall next to my bed. **** that ****.
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 21 May 2012 Posted 21 May 2012 I'm not sure I have any fears as such. A few worries here and there, maybe. Not a great fan of heights but love being in an aeroplane. I worry less about dying since my dad passed away last year. I'll either meet him again in another world / another life or that's it, bang we're gone.
Reynard Bleu Posted 21 May 2012 Posted 21 May 2012 I fear somewhat for the future, for the world in which my children and their children may have to live in. We seem to be making a good job of f**ing everything up year on year, driven my greed and selfishness. Our leaders cannot lead, only spew rhetoric and the voice of reason earns no dollars so is never heard. There is no escape or change because those that wield power do not want change, the pain and suffering of the have nots is an acceptable price to pay to maintain their power. Life is the greatest gift we have, whatever your beliefs, yet globally we set such a low value on it when its not on our doorstep. Yes I fear for the future.

Yeah, but I'm alright, so why should I care.
Babylon Posted 21 May 2012 Posted 21 May 2012 Big hairy spiders and confined spaces, not lifts or anything like that. But tiny spaces you see pot holing nutters squeezing themselves through. Bury me alive with a load of hairy spiders and I would probably lose my shit big time.
Leicester_Numan Posted 21 May 2012 Posted 21 May 2012 Wasps. Really can't stand them, they always dive bomb me and chase me down the street. Unlike bees, wasps sting you just for the hell of it. They're even worse when they've been eating fermenting fruit and get drunk. Then they keep you up all night singing stupid songs and swearing at you in Scottish
