Superb, simply superb.

King, Wellens, Waghorn, Fryatt, Hobbs, Brown, Berner and Weale were a different class tonight.

Very enjoyable match and a great start to the weekend :scarf:

And Oakley.

Tonight was all about the midfield snuffing out their midfield. The defence played its usual self and Fryatt took the chances he has squandered in the past.

As much as I wanted to twat Holloway for going on about it - the team formation was there for the country to see. We played a solid, attacking formation and defended in numbers. The middle four tracked back as a unit to provide support to the back four, with one or other of the forwards fighting back too.

The only question on my lips is - why don't we do this regularly?

We know we can, almost all comments of frustration are based on this.

Confidence?

There won't be any lacking now.

QPR are a very good side, we bested them.

As Em says: BRILLIANT!

If anybodys looking for Wayne Routelidge, I think he's in Bruno's pocket.

That was bloody awsome, even Nielson had a good game!

Wonder if Capello was impressed with fryatt lol?

The reason why we can't do that regularly is most teams don't try and play football against us. We don't really tend to struggle too much against teams who want to attack us and give us a break. Our problem is against teams who sit back and play deep because we struggle to break them down.

dany nguessan sparkled , there is a lot more to come from this lad

lot better than the last time i saw him play however on to nights performance he should be starting, at least ahead of dyer/adams or even on the right wing with dyer/adams on the left (not going to happen though if king and wellens play as well as they did today on a regular basis seeing as how nigel won't drop oakley)

Oh how I would love to know what Pearson said to the players pre-match and during half-time. They looked up for it from the off, yet somehow cranked it up another gear for the second half. QPR were quality for the first 45, Taarabt, Routledge and Buzsaki looked really really good. It's a huge credit to the team that we kept them completely quiet for the second half and restricted them to half-chances in the first.

Great performance and thoroughly deserved win, glad Pearson worked some magic on the midfield at half time on stopping that young Morrocan lad, he was creating loads of problems for us and never got a look in 2nd half. Great stuff. ;0) :scarf:

N'Guessan should keep playing on the left. He can cut inside and he showed he can cross it with his left foot as well. Perfect! And why should Pearson drop Oakley? He was great today alongside King and Wellens

very good point. When trying to break teams down we need pace. Encouraging to see N'Guessan play that well as he can help break teams down when they come for a point

Others have said all of this but we've shown a few things tonight.

  • We can play a passing game when we want to - perhaps because Howard wasn't playing :dunno:
  • Our midfield can control a game without Edgar Davids
  • Dany N'Guessan has got a lot of potential to be a very good player for us
  • Our defence and Goalkeeper are excellent
  • Fryatt has genuine class
  • ...so does Waghorn

maddog, many have long advocated a change up front, with Waghorn or Gallagher starting.

But that doesn't mean Howard should be cast-off, he can still be used as a different option when we are chasing the game and maybe have to go long ball.

Exactly.

Remember the impact that Howard had against Cov?

Maddog quickly forgot that.

For so long I've wondered why we've played so much of our football in second gear but, at long last, we hit full throttle and left a very good side in our wake and surely thrilled every City fan privileged to watch.

Fryatt took his two matchwinning goals with panache - and that first one was another for the highlights of the season video

- but what pleased me so much was that we matched them for first time passing in the opening 45 minutes and finally played them to a virtual standstill by the end.

Cos, make no mistake, QPR were frustrated and devoid of ideas by the final whistle because, not only did we scrap for every ball but we hit them hard and fast on the counter.

Emotionally I'd be inclined to give every team member a full 10 marks because this was the best 90 minutes I've seen from us in many a day considering the standard of QPR. But I'll try to be objective in the player ratings.

And Pearson can take a deep bow because he came close to delivering a tactical masterclass by not only countering strengths but finding weaknesses and using the players to exploit them.

How refreshing it was to see us use some real pace from the off and how unfortunate that the efforvescent Waghorn was denied a splendid opening goal by such a hairline decision.

But for the first time he was able to demonstrate the considerable attributes he's brought to our team - not least the Cottee-like willingness to try to drive himself to get on the end of things in the six yard box and how close he was to putting the ball in the net for a second time in a manner so similar to his first.

In midfield Wellens, King and Oakley demonstrated they could stand against the best in second tier football and I hope King silenced the doubters who declared he was "a division too high" and "couldn't hack in at so elevated a level once and for all.

Everyone was put to the test tonight and the final count for City was a team full of competitors and a team full of winners - but winners who showed they could play a bit.

We didn't foul, we didn't cheat, we didn't niggle on the side and we didn't waste time other than forgiveably right near the end. Instead we stood tall and more than matched arguably the most talented attacking team outside the Premiership skill for skill.

I loved every minute.

Thrace you're ace because at the moment I can only think of one word yesssssssss!!!!!!!!!

Sky commentator decribed Brown as a one man wall

Nigel in a manner has asked us all what the fook do we know about football, because his tactics were simpy the best. Bring on the boing boingers!!!

Disagree there. Pace isn't going to do much against a back four sitting very deep because there is no space to get in behind them. Playing a big centre forward is the right thing to do and a few creative (who can strike the ball from distance) midfielders doesn't do go a miss. Problem is that Steve Howard has been crap. I think we will eventually solve this problem though, we managed it last season.

Agree with everything that's been said. Superb performance by the team and staff. Well done lads. Leicester til I die!

Anyone know what the song was Sky played over the closing edits?
