Nolberto Solano

lol!!!

People calling him 'over the hill' etc make me laugh, when they've probably not even seen him play since he left England, unless they get a decent amount of Peruvian and Greek football, of course.

He was banging them in there in the Greek league.

Only scored twice though.

God I'd love to be positive about this.

'Sign him up' my heart says....

My head says ' For pity's sake he's 35, got to fit into a mid season playing style, will demand a bunch of cash and the return will be extremely minimal. If he joins tomorrow and scores 10 goals this season I'll be amazed. My guess would be nearer 4 goals till season end. If his fitness is exemplary I'd be prepared to revise this.......but I doubt it.

errr he is he not a winger/midfielder not a striker his strengths are providing opportunities for others not putting them in the net himself.

4 goals before the end of the season would be an excellent return for one of our midfielders at the minute Oakley, Wellens and co aren't exactly scoring for fun

Sorry didn't realise midfielders were solely judged on goals scored. Frank Lampard is a freak you know, midfielders don't generally score 20+ a season. David Beckham is a right winger, where Solano would likely play for us, and he's scored only 116 in 622 career games, but I doubt anyone would question his contribution to games in the most part. I mean you're asking Nobby to score roughly one on two

If he comes and sets up 15+ goals for the rest of the team and maybe chips in with a couple himself, I'll be happy.

he provides cover for both right mid and right back, with our finances it makes good sense and isn't a major risk

I'd be more than happy with him on a short term deal, he has always been a class act and i'm sure he is fit enough to put a in a good shift in this league. As mentioned above he can cross a ball and this is maybe summat we are missing. Now just get Bent and Taylor in and i'll be happy with the activities.

But is it just about his on field experience and attributes? Solano being brought it may have some confidence, experience and advice to give in the dressing room.

Sounds very interesting, i have always liked Solano as a player. I watched him many of times back in his villa days (Used to go once or twice every year with the school) He always seemed to add something to the side when he was playing. He did a good job at newcastle as well, setting up plenty of goals there, in fact i think they missed him last season.

Sounds like he also did well with the foreign team he was with "Helping them to win the title"(Mockery) if he had a full season under his belt last year and has been training then i dont see why he cant do a good job. :dunno:

After all David Beckham is getting on a bit and he is still one of the best players if not THE best player in the England sqaud.

This season could be fun, NOBBY To DICKov, DICKov To BENT, Oh Look Weve Scored A Goal. (Shame it was in the back door though  )

i will get my coat.

People keep suggesting Solano is going to demand loads of money. One of the reasons we are looking at Solano IMO because we're skint.

i think there is a difference between being skint and being tight. MM has of course already come oout and said he would fund players if NP wants them... i dont always believe everything he says but this would be a strange thing to lie about

How old was Powell when he signed for us? After training with Colchester too, if I remember correctly

I was waiting for someone to say it, hoping nobody would so I could mention Powell. Exactly.

Let's reserve judgement. This won't be a panic signing, he'll have to prove his worth first.

If we keep Gradel, then he could do a lot worse than to model his crossing on Solano's. The chap could but the ball on a **** 50 pence piece week in, week out.

I don't see a problem with this at all.

Nigel is in a slightly better position to judge the fitness of a player than me, so I will make the brave call to bow to hid judgement on this one. If you think he has something to offer Nige, you sign him up with my blessing.

Why did Colchester not sign him when they had the chance?

Apparently their was interest from "bigger clubs" (i.e. us) so he turned down their offer when they tried to sign him.

This would be a good signing, we desperatly need somebody who can cross the ball, who can take free kicks, and we desperatly need any reason not to play gally out wide.

Sign him up

I'd rather us sign a mature player who can cross a ball onto howards head, he has creativity and a little flair something I feel we are missing. I'd rather have him produce the goods this season than sign some 20 year old who is gunna blow hot and cold. We need some consistency and that flair. All i'm looking for if this goes through is him to notch up a few assists and help with the youngsters. He has always been a model professional aka Powell !

Yes, I'm sure we'd all like a very gifted and effective 23 year old winger who will get us promoted and then set the premiership alight for us next season.

Err, hello, anyone in?

We're Leicester not fooking Arsenal.

Pearson is getting in any player that he can, irrespective of age, that he thinks will give us a chance at promotion.

If we get promoted then a whole new squad will have to be put together.

 If you look hard enough there are players like that around available for championship clubs.

I like the story from his Newcastle days of him calling the late Bobby Robson every so often just to play his trumpet down the phone.

I appreciate this has nothing to do with us signing him or contributes much to the thread, I just think it's quite amusing and the sort of character that's good for the game. Hope Nige likes a bit of salsa trumpet.

Totally agree with you. He will also add a bit of much needed experience I feel.

My only doubt would be his match fitness and if he can still cut it.
