Kitchandro Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 Thats what Top wants and thats what Top will get whether Steve Howard likes it or not. Top's a more confident man than me! And if he doesn't get it? Bye bye Sven?
Karljohn Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 Don't want to open up the wrong can of worms, but, er, did I skim read it too quickly or is calling him a "racist little shit" a huge overreaction? Don't think he said anything that severe. I do think he's being a hypocrite in regards claiming the team need to be bonding together and then speaking out about their flaws publicly to the tabloids but then that's another issue. As much as I like Abe and I want him to do well here, the language barrier will be an issue and I hope he does work hard to learn.
shailen Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 i think wellens is worried about his own place and rightly so! Sven has not messed around with his signings and will remove any deadwood! Although I like Wellens as a player, it seems a desperate plea from him to keep his name on the teamsheet! Competition for places is always a good think
Fox92 Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 You'd seriously rather watch Steve Howard than Beckham and Santa Cruz? Seriously? Not taking the piss like? Steve Howard is proud to be a footballer because he has played at lower level throughout his career. I'd rather see a player that works hard than a player that doesn't.
conradno1 Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 Steve Howard is proud to be a footballer because he has played at lower level throughout his career. ajthefox Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 Why? Because there's no need for it. Hes made a valid point ok but he hasn't done himself any favours by saying so in the way he has done. I'm not saying hes racist at all but it doesn't sound like he is that pleased about the foreign arivals and he certainly won't help anyone talking about it. I'd prefer our boys to say what they think rather than spout the usual rubbish but sometimes it's better for everyone to say what everyone else says or say nothing at all. What I really find amusing is that what he says at the start is actually quite arrogant. Who is Wellens to critique RSC and Jo? Obviously everyone has an opinion and no-one is untouchable but half our fans think Wellens is shite so how he can ask if they're going to a job when many argue he doesn't is a bit odd to me. The be all and end all of it is that Wellens gets payed to play football and Sven is there to pick the team and to bring in better players. If the imports aren't good enough for us then he shouldn't have anything to worry about.
Finnegan Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 Who are Santa Cruz and Jo to above Wellens' criticism? I have no problem with anything he said, other than he said it to the tabloids whilst dribbling on about squad togetherness. I'm all for opinionated footballers but unless they've done something twatish then, in my opinion, you should keep your trap shut about your own team mates. I want to see a player happy to speak his mind but I also want qualities like loyalty and respect in my favourite players, too. It's blatantly obvious the likes of Abe and Vitor won't have learned the language yet, doesn't mean you have to publicly use them as your excuse.
ajthefox Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 they aren't above it at all, I said above no-one is untouchable but it's a circular arguement really. He questions them and someone else questions him etc etc I just don't see a point
Jacnah Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 maybe abe thinks its weird that you eat pasta before a game you racist northern cnut :chant::crylaugh:
ian_marshall Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 The funny thing about 'The Sun' article was that Wellens singled out Abe as someone who's struggling to adapt and yet right below, the reporter awards Abe 'Star Man' status.
Wymsey Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 We having a dig at Wellens for what he said which HASN'T got any racist info in it at all!
Jakemoore Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 Yeaaah, he'll do for now until Sven signns someone better. He's clearly an idiot if he thinks that Newcastle had no star players as 'Uncle Monty' has already said. He should keep his more controversial opinions to himself to avoid trouble. However I think he just means that it has taken Abe some time to settle in, it's maybe that he hasn't worded it well very? Who knows!!

I wouldn't say it's controversial that he thinks it will do us no good to bring in 10 new players all at once. I'd say that's just right.

They probably asked him about Abe. What do you think, Wellens just rang the Sun up so he could have a rant about how he doesn't like Abe or the other foreign players? It was an interview, he's giving his views on the situation and they would have asked specific questions.
lcfcadam Posted 3 November 2010 Posted 3 November 2010 Wayne Brown mk II Racist little shit Do you realise how much you sound like a total fooking tool? Did you just read the first few posts and assume you knew enough to make that comment without actually reading the articles? And without doing some further research to find out that the comments have indeed been taken out of context in those reports, because in other articles from the same interview the point he's trying to make comes across perfectly?

Messi Posted 3 November 2010 Posted 3 November 2010 How can anyone say Wellens is shit? He is one of the best midfielders we've had in a few years, easily. He is quality at the job he does, winning the ball and laying it off, yes some of the balls he tries to play are abit OTT sometimes but sometimes they work. He's had a few bad games, like everyone at the club. But he's had hell of a lot more good games than bad ones. And in a way, I kind of agree what he's saying, he's basically saying that we have a good bunch of lads who get along and don't want no 'footballing superstar' who will more than likely be abit big headed to come in and disrupt that. And I don't think he was having a dig at Yuki, Vitor or Moreno, I think he was just saying it has been abit harder for them to settle.

Maybe it's because he does the ugly things that some fans dont get him? He is my favourite player right now, and all he is saying about Abe is that he needs to learn the language asap to get the most out of him on the pitch. I agree!
marbelladave Posted 3 November 2010 Posted 3 November 2010 Spot on mate. Maybe it's because he does the ugly things that some fans dont get him? He is my favourite player right now, and all he is saying about Abe is that he needs to learn the language asap to get the most out of him on the pitch. I agree! Very few people, and none in their right mind, are saying he is shit, just not good enough for a team with aspirations of a promotion push. I have given my views many times but suffice it to say that I feel he is poor going forward as he spends too much time on the ball, telegraphs his passes and is frightened to get into the box. Similarly in defence he is poor at closing down and his tackling is hit and miss with too many fouls. I have also pointed out that he had one of his best games against Preston and on that basis should be considered for the Barnsley game. In addition I like his feisty attitude and combativeness, even if it is no more than 'bluster' at times. Abe despite his issues. has already shown that he is 'technically' a far better player than Wellens in all respects, it is just the adjustment to English football at this level that is the issue, we should and probably are, working hard on this. I believe in the medium term a central partnership of Abe and King is where we should be aiming with a more creative player just in front of then, whether Gallagher or Moussa can be that player remains to be seen, otherwise it's time for Sven to get on the phone!
Alexikokopops Posted 3 November 2010 Posted 3 November 2010 My favourite thing about this thread is there's about two people saying he's racist, clearly as a joke, and then 7 pages of "I can't believe people are calling him racist. Pathetic".
