Feeding birds bread is fine as long as that's not the only thing they are eating, then it's perfectly safe for them. Which during the summer I imagine is not a problem with them getting a varied diet. In winter when their natural food sources  are scrarcer I guess then people should try and give them other things.

Re the Off side Law in football.

 

I was watching Aberdeen v Hearts game and Aberdeen lobbed a long ball up field to their lone striker who was in an off-side position but in his own half therefore I assume was breaking any laws. As the ball dropped in the oppos half he ran for it but was flagged off side. 

 

Was he offside? I'd have thought not as he hadn't broken the off-side law and play was therefore continuing.

Thoughts

Think its something to do with 2 opponents (1 usually the keeper) are behind the last attacker. Not sure on your example. I could be totally wrong mind.

What is going on with this resurgence of country music? I get it's probably always been big in America but I can't for the life of me work out while people like it in this country 

 

I'm not convinced the majority of people who listen to it really enjoy it

I'm a fan of so many genres of music but I just can't fathom what the appeal is of this dirge. The lyrics are so literal and dull and the singing is almost always dreary

I don't mind a bit of country music, but I was brought up on it among other genres so it has a kind of nostalgic appeal for me I guess

I get that Deb. I'll listen to stuff like Sinatra and Nat King Cole etc and my girlfriend just doesn't get it but it's what my grandparents played

When I am over at my sister's, with her and my niece, we always put a mix of music on. They both know my one rule: No f**king country music!

A couple of questions I've been thinking about today (mostly based on trying to navigate videos on YouTube while being bombarded by ads, no good ad blocker on this device):

 

Why are Internet ads still totally pervasive when it's reasonably clear they don't serve a purpose in terms of actually raising sales of the product they sell, because from what I can tell the response to such ads is almost universally negative?

 

Why are companies still paying to prop up such an industry that appears to not fit a purpose? I simply cannot see how it can be profitable anymore. 

 

Or am I wrong and the cost of making the ads and buying the space is somehow still less than the revenue a seller makes from the product being advertised? Or is there a different purpose for them beyond that?

When I took out internet advertising for my business I was reliably informed by Google it would have a return on ads sales of 8:1.  Obviously that was bo*locks but it's nearer 3:1 and is still a no brainer.

 

I don't advertise on Youtube though you'll be pleased to know.

I guess it's the same reason I still have to deliver hundreds of pizza, Farmfoods, check a trade leaflets et al, every week, even though everyone says, "that's going straight in the bin" if I hand it to them in person.

Would it be possible to elaborate on exactly how such a rate of c.300% return is achieved? I'm genuinely curious as to how sales are boosted in these days of ubiquitous ads that are so often negatively received.
