Michael Morrison - soon an Owl?

Recommended Posts

He is at least an average Championship player at the moment, and has a lot of potential.

He can look a bit shakey sometimes, but he is still young and learning.

Would be a class signing for any League 1 team.

Personally I think Morrison is best at right back. He's great in the air and a real threat from set-pieces. Would be a shame to see him go considering he was in non-league 2 years ago.

he was probably our best player last season bar King and Hobbs, playing at right-back which is not his natural position.

Sorry but what? Ahead of Berner, Waghorn, Fryatt, Wellens and a few others.... not a chance. Even Pearson kept trying to replace him as the right back, first with Neilson and then with Solano, who actually kept him out of the team towards the end of the season.

He's a solid player with potential, but can also be bloody terrible. If we had not won the last two games with him in the team there would not be this kind of reaction at all.

Pretty sure Morrison was injured towards the end of the season, but I agree with your point.

He was consistent throughout though not amazing like the other poster said.

I personally would like to see him stay i feel the last 2 games he and hobbs have been fantastic and very solid at back, for once this season we have 2 centre back who speak to each other and cover each other well

As far as I remember, Neilson was bought to replace not Morrison but the young lad we had in from Arse in the Div season. Morrison started last season as the reserve centre back, and was only converted to right back when Neilson was found wanting. He performed well enough alongside Hobbs in Div1, and also in the few Championship games where he had to fill in at centre back.

As far as the last 2 games are concerned, many people on this site have been consistent supporters of Morrison throughout the season, recognising that his poor start was down to destroyed confidence; and he wasn't the only player to suffer that from Sousa's disruption of the defence.

Furry muff, I did wonder.

I def agree that he wasn't one of the players of the season..but i do think he was one of the most improved players. I agree with all the positive comments; will be a good signing for Wednesday at what sounds like a bargain price..would rather he wasn't going until we have better defenders in place and settled

Ideally it would be better if he stayed as cover but, with Bamba, Mee, Vitor (coming back), Davies? and possible more signings. I reckon he will want to leave to get regular football. He is young so could develop as a really good champioship player but only if he is playing regulary.

I can deff see him going, particular with the MM link. Good luck to him!

Morrison Thread

Funny how opinions have changed in a few months, after a few bad games under Sousa where most were terrible.

That's because he was playing at RB then, which is where he plays best.

In my opinion, he's a fantastic player and would be great at League One level. I think its a huge mistake to let him go- he was probably our best player last season bar King and Hobbs, playing at right-back which is not his natural position, but he filled in and did a job.

People say he's been poor this season- but he's only really played under Sousa- and who exactly was good under him?

He's a threat from set-pieces, and a top defender imo. Big mistake letting him go (if he does), but good luck to him.

He was good last season at right back but that's a major overstatement.

Not good enough a centre back for this level but will be good in league 1

Mine hasn't, he's done well in the past, but I don't think he has a future at the club.

I still believe that Weale, Hobbs & Morrison together are a disaster waiting to happen, again.

He's a good Div 1 player, a stopper who will score goals, but his distribution is poor and the goals against Palace and Pimpey are not just down to Sousa.

Too much of a confidence player and I don't want that at the back.

Good luck to him though.

He'll boss League One teams.

Still personally think he could do a job for us, but obviously he's not happy being back-up at the moment.

Posted

He was outstanding for us in L1 and there's more in the locker if he is given the right direction.

It'd be a sad day to see him go unless we rob the mendacious fvcker who'd be paying for him.

I'd like to see him stay, when on form he's very good to have in the side as he's solid and depenable. Distribution isn't great but there's still time for him to develop.

If you get him you've got a decent player.

I take it I'm the only one who thinks he's better on the ball than Hobbs then?

No you're not the only one. He's also far more of a threat in the air than Hobbs, and his long range shooting isn't bad

Would be a good signing for Wednesday...especially for 250k.

Posted

If we could sign a player like him that would be a good addition to the squad, can play at CB or RB for £250k - we would, if we do let him go it will be a mystery why, unless some more signings are around the corner

Posted

People saying he'd only do a job playing for a mid table championship team need to remember how about 8 months ago he was a huge part of us finishing 5th so he can sustain a very high level of performances. If you hadn't noticed not many teams in the champ play exciting flowing football and he'd probably fit into a couple of sides in the play offs now e.g Leeds and Cardiff who both have awful defences. Will be sad to see him leave as he has loads of potential at only 22 I think he is and could do a job for a lot of team in the championship never mind league 1. A steal if you ask me

Personally, I do think he is the most dominant defender in the air that we have in our squad.

I don't want him to go (ecspecially to Sheffield Wednesday because all my mates will be banging on about him being fantastic) but we do have to trust SGE. He's only like 24 isn't he? He has a bright future considering where he has come from.
