ajthefox Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Phillips would not be the worst signing we could make, he would score poachers goals in the right set up but where would he fit into our team? Simply, he doesn't, not if we're including Yakubu and Vassell, because those 3 would be a poor front three. Phillips couldn't play a wide role at all, and Vassells effectiveness out wide is yet to be shown. More importantly than this, where the fook is the longevity in that? Sven has already signed Vassell and Yakubu who are both old but fair enough have a few years left at least, Phillips on the other hand is 37, and due to his lack of opportunities in the prem recently I think it's fair to say he wouldn't cut the mustard if we got promoted. Busting a gut to get promoted this season with oldies is a very high risk strategy, it means if you get up you'll need to bolster again, thus adding to the unrest which, bearing in mind how much has been going on at this club, could lead to real problems. Just think about it, if we got someone like Phillips, a new keeper, maybe another defender, our team will have absolutely no chemistry at all, and I don't care how could your 11 players are, if they can't work for each other as part of a team you aren't going anywhere.
singinpete Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Zoltan Geras after a way out of Fulham. I liked him under Hodgson but hasnt had much of a chance this season. Would he fit in here?? any thoughts???
nickelbyfox Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Charlie Austin Well he's handed in his transfer request so may make a lot of people on here happy or pissed off depending where he goes! I for one would like to see him come here
StanSP Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Charlie Austin Well he's handed in his transfer request so may make a lot of people on here happy or pissed off depending where he goes! I for one would like to see him come here Wouldn't mind getting him. 21 years old. One for the future has a good goalscoring record.
Jackirius Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 I can't see the owners wanting to buy someone like Charlie Austin, they want big names, a la Henry, Yakubu etc....
Jackirius Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 What are your interpretations with what Sven said about transfers after the match? Given unless he wants to come. Henry... Seems like he is trying but has none lined up at the minute when Stringer asked him about transfers in the next 48 hours.
MPH Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 just wondering how Villa would be able to accommodate Bent, Heskey and Carew on their wage bill.... Randy Learner isn't known for his bottomless pockets so i wouldn't be surprised if he wants to offload a striker and i doubt it would be agbonlahor...
LCFC_15 Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 Leicester City should try and get few players from Manchester United on loan. Here are eight players I think would fit well in the Leicester City squad: 1. Fabio (Left Back) 2. Gabriel Obertan (Midfielder) 3. Bébé (Winger/Forward) 4. Ravel Morrison (Midfielder) 5. John Cofie (Striker) 6. Will Keane (Striker) 7. Ryan Tunnicliffe (Midfielder) 8. Paul Pogba (Midfielder) 9. Magnus Eikrem (Midfielder) These hot prospect youngsters LCFC should try and get from Man Utd that will push them to the play-offs/promotion. Sven have a word with Sir Alex Ferguson What do you reckon people? Opinions?

Never heard of the others but Man U youth always seems to be worth a punt. Tom Cleverley was quite good.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 I reckon that just because someone's on Man Yoo's books, it doesn't make them any better than what we have. Sam Hewson being a case in point, he was captain of their youth and reserve sides a few seasons back, and now finds himself at Altrincham. I'm sure the majority in that list would be out of their depth.
Haydos Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 Will Keane and Paul Pogba are very highly rated prospects. Check out this hit from Pogba. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnzpuJrAOGs
Adster Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 I'm not sure, and i agree that just because they are from a high profile club doesn't mean they will be good for us. Example: Ryan McGivern.
cc_star Posted 19 January 2011 Author Posted 19 January 2011 Surely they'll link up with Darren at the Posh?
LCFCMickey Posted 19 January 2011 Posted 19 January 2011 In FM2010, I signed Will Keane on a free at then end of his contract... turned out to be amazing and sold him for 3M... Only if real life would upload my save game.
RobHawk Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 Suprised nobodys mentioned leon britton!! On his way back to Swansea by the looks of things!! Very good midfield player though!!
RizLCFC Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 Suprised nobodys mentioned leon britton!! On his way back to Swansea by the looks of things!! Very good midfield player though!! On a free transfer aswell. But can't see Sven going for players like that. P.S. Ishmael Miller off to QPR!
Ric Flair Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 I'm amazed we've only bought in 3 players this window so far and only one of those being permanent when 2 have been allowed to leave permanently. I wonder what Sven and the Thai's are up to? It just strikes me as odd. The net needs to be cast further than these shores as well, not a single player from abroad has come in yet and that's not what old Svennis is about. I expect frantic transfer activity next week otherwise i'll be worried that this club has a steady and shrewd game plan, i'm not used to that!! Now that Pienaar has signed for Spurs, surely Dos Santos cannot be in Redknapp's plans? We should throw everything we can at getting him here.

Now that Pienaar has signed for Spurs, surely Dos Santos cannot be in Redknapp's plans? We should throw everything we can at getting him here. I'm hoping the current strategy is for this season only. When Sven came in he said there was no scouting system in place, so he is relying on his contacts. Although they mostly consist of agents trying to send players our way (not the best way of recruiting). He doesn't have much knowledge of players in this country below the premier, which is probably why we aren't going for any highly rated players in this league and below. Fingers crossed he is putting in place scouts to look at these players and more abroad. It was written somewhere that Tord Grip was doing some scouting abroad for us, how true that is nobody knows. I'm not going to moan about his transfer activity this year, although not perfect we needed the quick fix that these loans brought in. I'm hoping we will see a more long term system put in place for the summer... although I have doubts, he is only here for one more season after this one and the Thais seem intent on trying to buy success within the next two years, I'm not sure they have a long term strategy. Short term loans are costly, but you aren't handing out 3/4 year contracts that you are going to struggle to pay if promotion isn't forthcoming. So they fit in with my worry of a two year investment time frame.

I'm delighted we've got Sven, not in my wildest dreams could I have thought we'd get someone as good as him as manager but because he's so high profile and never really cut his teeth at this level, he'll not do the things the likes of Pearson did for us and as you say if it goes tits up we'll be in a worse position than before. I'm surprised Faz hasn't put the squeeze on Sven to bring in a few Huddersfield boys, they have some talent and he's also knowledgable on other teams in that league. Anyway, who knows. We are still 3 signings away from being good enough to go for the play-offs though. It's imperitive we bring in another creative attacking midfielder to play in the front 3, as Dyer, Gallagher and Vassell all have their off days. Dos Santos would be an absolute dream, i'm hoping Sven is considering 'grabbing' him pikey style.
hackneyfox Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 Berner needs replacing Hobbs is still poor Oakley is useless Howard is useless. Weale still dodgy between fantastic saves. Desperately need a midfielder. If Sven doesn't get busy in the next few days then we won't be going up this season.
Criggers Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 Not even vaguely linked but for some reason I read this and thought it had Sven written all over it :sge: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_6676137,00.html
MattyFromLE Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 Slightly worried but I'm sure Sven has some tricks up his sleeve yet

I think the loan signings he has made are good but this is not a stable way of running the club, we will end up with just a team of mercenaries. However I think he is confident of going up in the next couple of years and i think he is saving alot of the kitty he has been given for when/if that happens. Its a gamble but if it pays off we will have a better chance of sustaining ourselves in the prem. Dos Santos would be another great signing and would bring some much needed creativity as Dyer isn't the most consistent player in the world, can look a world beater one day but look sunday league the next.
Bryn Posted 23 January 2011 Posted 23 January 2011 Kris Commons up for sale apparently, refused to sign a new contract.
