Kitchandro Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 It was a strange game. Like against Millwall we rarely got out of 2nd gear, but looked amazingly good at times (when we had the ball). But we gave them way too much time on the ball and if we do that away we will lose. If we had been at 100% the whole way through we would have thrashed them 5 or 6 nil. But it's a bit disappointing that we let them back into the game before we kill it off. Yakubu and Van Aanholt were poor, Bamba, Naughton, Mee and King our best players. An important 3 points and cracking entertainment.

That means the other players as Gallagher, King and so on gets more room to do their thing. By the way.... Massive win today as we are going with a momentum. Up we go. Agreed, think playing alone up front and being marked as the dangerman make it difficult for him, an important role for the team though as their defenders were always close to him trying to crowd him out leaving space for King, Gallagher and Wellens to profit. If he had scored that shot at the end it would have been a ridiculous goal!

martyn Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 The only defence of Yak being used here is that his reputation opens up the space for others. I don't buy it. You can forgive the apparent lack of effort/running if his hold up play or general play was anything approaching scratch. Unfortunately today, Yak had lead in his boots in more ways than one. Having said that, you just know he will score some critical goals between now and the end of the season, goals where Premiership class will show.

Yes we went in at 2-1 at half time but we was lucky to be 2-1 up. Andy Kings first goal, yum, second great finish. Yakubu didn't have that good of a game today.

Who is to say he's not the next muzzy in terms of how long he stayed when he could've had better? He's been with us for a fair few years now and if he carries on the way he's going he may well go down in history like Muzzy has. I'd give that over playing a bit part role for a mid table prem team any day of the week.

I was bored stiff though apart from 4 fantastic goals, not often they all go in. Still the teams above will be looking at us and shitting it!!

Fez of Mahrez Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 For the people moaning about Yak, of course there's a flaw to his game because he would otherwise be a regular in the Premier League. We've needed a player like him for ages. He won't score in every game and he won't spend ages chasing down lost causes but you'd generally back him to score when he gets chances and the people who are saying he dragged defenders away are completely right in my opinion. Barnsley gave King the space and concentrated on Yakubu, as did Sheffield United for our goal on Tuesday. It doesn't matter which of the two is getting the chances as long as they get them because they are two of the best finishers in the league. Despite all that, imagine if Hobbs had been playing well this season. I honestly would contemplate pairing him with Mee and sticking Bamba up front. What an enigma. The way he takes the ball on his chest and dribbles out of defence instead of just heading it out is hilarious. Makes me laugh out loud. God knows what opposition players make of him! Thought we were generally below-par across the board today and still scored four. Confidence is sky high among players and fans. Pinching myself really.

By that point we would have been away to Derby, Cardiff and QPR, and played promotion-chasing Norwich at home. 6 points or more from those games and we'll be serious contenders.
