Rooney's Swearing

Recommended Posts

Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with him swearing, its showing passion for the game like previous posters have said when a camera is on a player and you can lip read them swearing its the same thing. Only down side is young children watching and using it at school.

Makes it worse that you can hear it and saying it down the camera was just  but the words mountain and molehill spring to mind.

I'd rather have someone with Rooney's temperament wearing a city shirt than some mug from abroad who falls over all the time and shows no passion but is just as talented.

What you are seeing in my opinion is a man brought up in a rough part of the country releasing all his pent up frustration in a manner he feels is right.

Football is, or was and still is sort of, a working man's sport.

His private life has been sprayed across the papers, he had a nightmare World cup, he was ill advised in how he dealt with his contract negotiations with United and that was also played out in public. Add all that to a poor run of form and he must have been desperate to get back to something like his old self on the pitch and put it all behind him.

I've seen sports reporters all over the place telling us all it's not on in an attempt to whip up another Rooney storm and flog a few papers, but in the end for me it's just a bloke under a bit of a cloud blowing out the cobwebs and saying "****ing what?" What now? What are you looking at? Or all of the above rolled into one.

It shows passion and anyone who wants a swearing free football should probably go and watch rugger.

I think he's unleashing quite a lot of pent up frustration after a bit of a poor season. At least the lad's showing passion, however it's manifesting itself.

It was the arrogance of it that grates, like playing well for an hour makes up for all the shit performances.

Mountain out of a molehill.

There were absurd suggestions on 606 with Alan Green after yesterday's football that Rooney should be given a 4 match Club ban and a 4-match national team ban lol lol.

Someone should investigate Sky... WTF are they doing broadcasting swearing during afternoon programing?

I expect to see a huge fine levied on them :crylaugh:

are we going to ban the fans from swearing also? or stop the chants ??

people are passionate about football, the players and the fans, the pressure and tension can be immense at times and people are only human so its not easy just to switch off imo..

Fans aren't being paid thousands of pounds a week - or in Rooneys case, tens of thousands. Bet if you were to swear at a customer, which is what Rooney did, even if they swore first, you'd be reprimanded by work at the very least.

I don't see it as much to ask, and I didn't say ban swearing at yourself. It's swearing at someone else, which is confrontational.

In any case, Rooney is a very gifted footballer and a knob. I love that fact that he thinks that it wasn't directed at anyone in particular is a factor in this.

I agree he is under tremendous pressure as one of the biggest names in world football but I'm not sure it offers an excuse.

He is no longer the boy from a council estate. He is the man with the whole world at his feet.

If anything, I find using his background as an insult to those on council estates as the argument is based on a condescending belief that they're almost part feral and shouldn't be expected to conform to higher standards set for those from middle-class backgrounds.

In my opinion, Rooney should be given a 3 match ban for bringing the game into disrepute. He has sworn directly into a microphone which is beaming the game worldwide. Rooney is a role model for hundreds of millions of kids all over the world. This brings a huge responsibility and pressure with it.

The question is whether this criciticism is hypocritical, given that crowds swear, and players swear (just not down the microphone). I personally don't believe it's hypocritical for the simple reason that when crowds swear, it is known that it's something that is not accepted in everyday speech. In fact, to use the defence that crowds and other players swear, is akin to a speeding driver saying to a police, "Everybody else does it."

Rooney was an idiot, he went beyond the accepted norms of society in everyday speech and did it blatantly to a cameraman beaming it round the world. if you swore like that to your mum or dad, you'd expect them to pull you up on it. Same thing should happen to Rooney.

Absolute non story. Cant believe how much coverage this has got

Its Rooney..had this been one of our guys on a live game would anyone care?

Wrong thing to do image wise but as said he's hardly the first and won't be the last.

I'd say the abuse of officials is more of a problem and ofcourse fans can a fair bit of stick back.

Off topic but would there be a different reaction to this story had the 2 sportspeople invovled been footballers?

He's been charged by the FA, could face a 2 match ban.

Wayne Rooney has been charged by the FA for using offensive language during Manchester United's 4-2 win over West Ham.The United striker swore into a pitchside camera after completing his hat-trick at Upton Park.

The England international has until 1800 BST on Tuesday to appeal against the charge.

If he accepts it, he will receive a two-match ban - if he denies the charge his hearing will be on Wednesday.

dont swear, dont take off your top, dont over celebrate, dont approach your own fans, dont talk to the ref..

forget football players we should start using robots..

Has he apologised though?, if he had come out and spoke in front of the cameras I think that would have been enough but to put your name to a pre arranged apology written by the club (in my opinion) is silly, footballers really should face up to the responsibilities and the clubs should make them but they seem to do the opposite and do everything for them even when they make mistakes.

Posted

So he's probably going to miss the FA Cup semi final against Man City because he swore?

lol Ridiculous

He swore directly at the camera so maybe he was punished because for example parents who had children watching what he said may make their children to believe it was directed at them etc. :dunno:

I didn't see the point of him swearing into the camera, if he hadn't done it live on TV then there would be no issue.

Yes it would.

It'd still be a pointless issue, but it would still have been made an issue.

Why can't he just take his frustration home with him and knock the wife and kid around? Instead, I get all that verbal whilst enjoying a quiet pint of a lunchtime.

At least the FA get to poke Man Yoo with a blunt stick again and irritate Old Red Face.

Posted

This making news and getting people in a huff was although extreme, understandable.

Getting a 2 game ban for this is absolutely fecking ridiculous.

What a pathetic joke of an authority the FA are. Complete and utter bollocks.

I'd love to be outside when the idiots that did this came out of their office, the stupid cvntbags would hear loud and clear what I think of them, as classy -or not- as that may be.

Wayne Rooney has apologised for swearing into a television camera during Manchester United's win over West Ham.

The England striker uttered an audible expletive following the completion of his hat-trick at Upton Park, which helped United come from 2-0 down to win 4-2.

Rooney's outburst prompted an immediate on-air apology from broadcasters Sky Sports.

The Football Association revealed that they would examine the footage before deciding whether to take any action against Rooney.

Rooney is expected to discover on Monday whether he will face disciplinary proceedings for his foul-mouthed hat-trick celebration.

In a statement released by his club, the England international has put his outburst down to the emotion of putting his side ahead.

Apology

He said: "I want to apologise for any offence that may have been caused by my goal celebration, especially any parents or children that were watching.

"Emotions were running high and on reflection my heat-of-the-moment reaction was inappropriate. It was not aimed at anyone in particular."

It is understood that taking action over a player swearing into a camera may be unprecedented, but the FA's rules do appear to have a provision about such behaviour.

They state: "A participant shall at all times act in the best interests of the game and shall not act in any manner which is improper or brings the game into disrepute or use any one, or a combination of, violent conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour."

Rooney upset England fans during last summer's World Cup when he turned to a television camera and verbally attacked them at the end of the dismal goalless draw with Algeria.

I’m amazed how eloquent Roonie is on paper when in interviews he can hardly put a sentence together.

I can clarify that.

If you want to interview Rooney for an article you have to record your questions or write them down and send them to his agent.

You then get a reply at an agreed time.

Everything that is published in his name is screened by his club or agent, he has a natural gift as a footballer, but not as an orator.
