Bryn Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 This deal will not be done quickly but I don't think it is over by a long shot. He STILL has not signed a contract, this means he is not currently happy with his situation. If they put a contract in front of him with suitable terms, he will probably sign it eventually, but he will wait to see if a Premier League team come in first. So Bristol will reject our bids and wait it out. But as the window, which still has a month and a half to run, draws to a close, Bristol will get desperate. They will offer him a final contract on better terms - what Maynard is waiting for, either with them or a Premier League club. We're not bigger than Bristol City, at least not sufficiently enough to sway him. If a Prem club come in, he will go there. If Bristol offer him a suitable contract, he'll stay. If no Prem club comes in, and he thinks he can do better financially with us than them, he will come here, but it will be close to the end of August. This, at least, is my take on the situation.
Guest Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 I'd be happy with Routledge and a £3-4m rated striker instead.

gazfox9 Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 I think what we really need is to now be heavily linked to a 5 million pound forward, thus forcing Brizzles hand a little. As much as they keep reiterating he's not for sale, 'til he puts pen to paper on a new deal for them, they'd be crazy to turn down nearly 5 million quid for a player that they'll get next to nothing in comparison for come the january window. I'm convinced this aint over yet, as the things NM said would hardly convince me if I were a BC fan that he's desperate to stay.
Guest Bilo Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Nothing more will happen on this until at least next Sunday I expect. As soon as the Stockholm Trophy is done, it's off to Austria and the team won't be back till after the Valencia match on the 23rd. With such long and obviously complicated negotiations ongoing, it clearly isn't going to be a case of putting in a bid for Maynard and him joining us in Austria like Konchesky. It's looking less likely that he'll be here in plenty of time for the start of the season.
psychonaut Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Hello - been reading this and TB for some years but yes i'm new because this is my first post! I have no ties with the club nor insider info but I hold a senior position within the commercial world so thought i'd share what I am 95% sure is the situation here (although I could be full of .......) 1 - this boring saga is absolutely key to every player being discussed on these forums and key to the entire summers transfer activity. whatever he or anyone says - Sven has a budget to work within - This will consist of the amount he has for both purchase, wages and ancillary costs. They will be separate budgets but they are interrelated. I firmly believe Sven is getting close to spending his budgets and the Maynard saga is impacting further player signatures 2 - Maynard was and is Sven's number 1 target (alongside Matt Mills I would guess) CMS was a fall back option and it would appear City could not protract negotiations for him long enough - i.e keep him dangling until it was fully understood whether NM would sign. Hence his statement he felt wanted by Brighton. He turned down WH to come to us and was probably shocked to find we didn't really want him (offer of low wages / asking him to wait - various ways to put him off / try to keep him dangling) At this point, the NM deal was obviously deemed likely enough to let CMS go. Poor bloke then ended up a Brighton! 3 - LCFC fully believe NM will come to Leicester if BC accept an offer and no prem clubs enter the race- There must have been conversations behind closed doors - Handing in transfers requests opens the door to tapping up allegations etc albeit plenty have taken the risk in the past + NM probably doesn't want to be seen as the bad guy in all of this (and neither do BC) 4 - We have a new negotiation framework now LH has left - more desire to pay more for what is needed - even if perceived to be more than the players market value - speculate to accumulate - raise the threshold of risk 5 - LCFC , conscious that the amount they would have to pay to BC for NM is a major % of their budget and wanting him ahead of the Sweden tour + needing to know what spend would be left for adding the remaining player acquisitions and which players to focus on lead to some pretty (have to say it) desperate negotiation tactics (similar can be said about the Mills signing) Coming back with much improved bids in such a short timescales If I am the BC chairman - I'd keep saying he is not for sale until the bids finally stop and that is where we are at. Now is the waiting game! As the pre-season draws to a close BC / NM will be firming up whether any prem clubs will enter the race. A prem club enables NM to get his dream and BC to sell without losing any face and stay reasonably popular with the fans. If this doesn't happen, NM doesn't sign, BC will likely sell to us for a small additional bid. Chances are our latest bid was rejected but we left it along the lines of - 'well the offer still stands but we won't wait forever'. Problem with the the waiting game is it is probably hampering any further player deals until Sven knows if he will get his man and for how much. We really mustn't offer an improved bid. - not yet or anytime soon as BC have the most to lose (however rich they are - irrelevant - it's business sense - it's what made them rich)! If all the above is true or close, the Routledge situation could go the same way as the CMS situation - or a punt may be taken that we can get him and Maynard without exceeding budget / or agreement may be sought with the owners to extend the budget - potentially the reason that poor Masiella (forgive spelling) was messed about and sent packing and not signed in addition to Konchesky and why the Hargreaves situation is now 'on ice'. so will NM come to LCFC? My prediction - it's in the balance If a prem club comes in - he will go to them If not It depends whether BC hold their nerve too long forcing LCFC to go elsewhere. They may try to push it out to the end of the transfer window. we may have a deadline in mind of a week before the new season starts. We may issue a final ultimatum (please not yet though!) (I's taken me so long to write this - he's probably blumin signed by now and made me look a right donkey!) Awesome post

Kilworthfox Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Looking around Europe for a half hour I found at a guess some strikers under £5M? Simon Cox Craig Bellamy Victor Moses Jonathan Soriano Javi Guerra Alexandre Geijo Federico Piovaccari Rolando Bianchi Emanuele Calaiò Milivoje Novakovič Theofanis Gekas Mads Junker Dmitri Bulykin Everton Ramos da Silva Surely if LCFC wanted to develop the Maynard situation, then some interest could be shown in a player(s) of the calibre of these guys? I.E: goal scorers
cc_star Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 I'm confused Nothing new has happened, the Mercury is as usual lagging behind real world events The Mercury article contradicts itself saying we've had 3 bids declined but a £4.75m remains on the table - when it's known the 3rd bid was £4.75m... both those things can't be true Since then we've heard we're not pursuing him and that he's happy to stay and looks forward to sorting out a contract their. 3 pretty negative things, everything else is reading too much into his words, perhaps with foxes tinted glasses on So adding up the self-contradicting article, we've pulled out, their not selling anyway & he's happy to stay hoping to get his contract sorted... Which bit of any of that gives any Leicester fans any hope whatsoever of signing him?

Which bit of any of that gives any Leicester fans any hope whatsoever of signing him? Probably the bit where he says 'whatever happens, happens,' fails completely to explicitly commit himself to a new contract and the bit where Keith Millen admits the speculation has 'distracted' Maynard. Healthy scepticism is one thing but you do seem to continually ignore these parts of the situation. With Bristol City clearly very keen to hold on to the player, there's plenty of double speak involved here. Unfortunately for them, while Maynard continues to stall on the contract their powerbase in the situations diminishes daily. Player power is the key.
Guest Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Bit vague! Anyone particular in mind? Supposed to be vague as there are so many strikers out there for that sort of money - even if they are not "on the market" lots of them would be if we made the offer. Prem outsiders, foreign players, champ starters - I leave the player down to Sven and the boys. I was talking about the principle. Personally I'd even take Routledge, Sharp and Evans instead of Maynard - total price would be about the same.
Rhysm Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 I wonder if he will go back for Ismael Miller? Not sure what his current status is with regards to fitness etc.
Happy Fox Posted 14 July 2011 Author Posted 14 July 2011 http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/137347-millen-looking-to-the-loan-market/page__st__45Group:Members There is a Final bid of 5.3m for Maynard inc add on's on the table from Leicester. This has not been rejected, and it was confirmed by someone within LCFC to a very good friend of mine in the press. Bristol City have not responded to the bid, but LCFC have said it's non negotiable and it's their final bid. That is why the deal is not dead, because the club have not as yet rejected this. Whether that is because they are waiting to meet Maynard and his agent, or because they have been away, I do not know. But LCFC will pull out of Maynard if this offer is rejected, which is where the half rumour of them dropping interest came from, but LCFC are very firmly stating that this final bid is still on the table and as of yet has not yet been formally rejected.

Guest Bilo Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 I think they are going to tell Maynard to either piss or get off the pot now. £5.3m is a considerable amount of dough for a player who won't commit to a long term future and could go for free within a year. From Maynard's perspective, he may well be aware of the generous terms we're offering, looking at a 20k a week contract at AG and a likely mid-table season or looking at 25k contracts we've offered to players like Nugent and fancy being part of a club that's going all for promotion. If that post on OTIB has any truth behind it, it does rather change the reading of that ambiguously worded statement earlier this week.
LeeTheFox Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 I really do not understand why they would not accept 5.3million for him, hes not even worth that and isnt he on his last year of his contract? <_<

I have no reason to, or not to believe you But this sounds reasonable from a business point of view & matches how LCFC delt with Reading over Mills. I think it's a more than fair offer.
