dannythefox Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 If he doesn't sign a new contract he will probably end up here i think but the balls in his court not ours!
Legend_in_blue Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 As soon as tinpot BCFC refuse to cave in to his wage demands on his new contract, he will come here. Money talks.
lestajigs Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/137347-millen-looking-to-the-loan-market/page__st__45Group:Members There is a Final bid of 5.3m for Maynard inc add on's on the table from Leicester. This has not been rejected, and it was confirmed by someone within LCFC to a very good friend of mine in the press. Bristol City have not responded to the bid, but LCFC have said it's non negotiable and it's their final bid. That is why the deal is not dead, because the club have not as yet rejected this. Whether that is because they are waiting to meet Maynard and his agent, or because they have been away, I do not know. But LCFC will pull out of Maynard if this offer is rejected, which is where the half rumour of them dropping interest came from, but LCFC are very firmly stating that this final bid is still on the table and as of yet has not yet been formally rejected. Bloody hell this is a step forward after a week off nothing
Trav Le Bleu Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY don't want our club spending this kind of money on players of Maynard's calibre. Time to look elsewhere.
LestaFox92 Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Money Talks, dirteh cash I need you, dirty cash I need you morreeee!!!!
Guest Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Quality over quantity for me. The squad's oversized as it is. Well if we get Maynard I hope he is better quality than Routledge and Sharp, not to sure myself.

IF true, NM's agent is probably pricing NM slightly out of BC's reach which will protract negotiations without killing them dead . My take - , NM wants a premier league deal. If no PREM offer arrives before BC make their final offer then he'll no doubt sign for us after BC accept the offer. In The meantime, said agent is no doubt telling us 'He wants to sign for you. It's in NM's interest to draw this out as long as possible keeping his profile in the media high for now and the future to promote his name as a 'brand' and short term potentially attract that PL club he craves - EXPECT this to drag on for some time yet unless BC pull the plug and tell him to sign or go! But do we really want a this guy - All our other signings genuinely appear to want to come to us!!!!
sdb Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Well if we get Maynard I hope he is better quality than Routledge and Sharp, not to sure myself. He is, promise. Not that Routledge is a striker of course...
HEGGSY Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 I know maynard is a good player and is probably the so called "20 goal a season striker" were after but £5.3 million Is fvckin ridiculous for a player with one year left on their contract, when it's not as if he is the only striker capable of scoring goals at this level. That said it would be a good signing and I'm sure Sven wouldn't want to part with that money unless he was certain. ISWT

Was the same for Mills, paid £2mill over his valuation and with a year left on his contract but the main thing is we now have a top drawer Championship CB. Tbh I think the whole 'last year of a contract' situation is beginning to change. No longer are valuations dropping that much. It's simply that clubs are slightly more willing to sell. If Maynard had 3 years left we'd have even less chance.

Fair point regarding mills yes we do have a quality cb and I for one was estatic about him signing but again I felt the price was steep but nowadays you have to pay that bit extra for quality and I just hope maynard lives up to the things that will be expected of him if he does sign because at the end of the day there will be fans Who will single him out as a waste of money, yet what we pay for him wasn't determined by him but us and BC

Imo, Maynard is the best striker in this league and exactly the player we need. Anything over £5.5mill would be just too much for me, but whilst there are plenty of decent alternatives, none stick out like a sore thumb...for me. And you're right, if he fires blanks in his first 2/3 games the fans will get right on his back, which'll help no one.

thybluefox Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 Somebody raised this on twitter but it's a good point, could the letters that have gone out to training ground and ground staff be because we have someone interesting in soon?

millzi Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 what letters? Apparently there were letters handed out at the training ground telling the players to keep quiet about any transfer activity.
Nick Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 Apparently there were letters handed out at the training ground telling the players to keep quiet about any transfer activity. oh - ta. They are on the hunt for Bert's sauce!
lestajigs Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 Says in today's mercury, were set to make a final bid!!
FallenAngel Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 Which will be rejected again, deja vu, bored of this one, i cant believe there isnt another descent striker out there we could snap up, im hopinh Sven has something up his sleeve and will bring in someone we don't expect
Carlos9 Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/Leicester-City-set-step-fourth-bid-striker-Nicky/story-12948966-detail/story.html Leicester City are ready to make their move to sign Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard if he refuses to sign a new contract at Ashton Gate. City have so far had three bids rejected for the 24-year-old, but Sven-Goran Eriksson is not giving up and is prepared to make a fourth bid if necessary. However, Maynard holds the key to any possible move to the King Power Stadium. Bristol have made Maynard, who has one year left on his current contract, an offer of a new deal but he is yet to sign it, and City are confident they could offer him better terms than the Robins. "I want what's best for the club and the best for me as well," said Maynard. "The sooner it's done (contract talks) the better it will be for both parties." Robins boss Keith Millen has appealed to the Bristol board to stand firm and resist the temptation to sell his star striker, especially as City's last bid was nearly £5million. However, if Maynard cannot agree a new deal at Bristol, City will step up their interest again and Eriksson has proved so far this summer that he generally gets his man. So far City have beaten off Premier League competition for Matt Mills and David Nugent, and Neil Danns rejected the chance to play Champions League football with Rangers. City have yet to miss out on a major target and the Mercury understands City withdrew their offer to Craig Mackail-Smith before he joined Brighton & Hove Albion. A fee had been agreed with Peterborough for the striker and he held talks with Eriksson, but City decided to focus all their attention on Maynard. Mackail-Smith is not the only deal Eriksson has walked away from at the last moment. He pulled the plug on the deal to sign South Africa international Tsepo Masilela at the last second after a deal for Liverpool's Paul Konchesky became his preferred option. Masilela had undergone a medical with City and flown to join them in Sweden to complete his loan move from Israeli side Maccabi Haifa, but Eriksson decided not to finalise the transfer, much to the disgust of the player's agent, Paschalis Tountouris. "The medical was okay and we were just waiting for Leicester to offer a contract," Tountouris told Sky Sports. "But when Liverpool saw that Tsepo was going to sign, they reduced their price by 70 per cent for Konchesky. "The way they operated is totally unacceptable. Tsepo had his heart set on a move. "But Konchesky doesn't need a work permit, which was going to take 20 days for Tsepo, he is experienced in England and Eriksson knows him. "This is unfortunately the situation, but I don't think Leicester have dealt with this issue in the proper way." Meanwhile, Ben Mee has joined Burnley on a season-long loan from Manchester City. Mee spent a successful spell with City last season and Eriksson was in talks over extending his stay, but he could not guarantee him a regular first-team place after signing Mills for a club-record fee, Konchesky and Sean St Ledger.
cc_star Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 Interesting I don't think we've dealt with Masilela in a proper way, but on the flipside it bullied Liverpool into massively dropping their price for Konchesky. So I think we played the business-side of things perfectly even if the personal-side was a bit amiss. Also, it looks like we need to meet Maynard in service station El Tel style to get things moving there, without something to instigate the next stage it looks destined to flounder

If he's interested then he'll hand in a transfer request or request to speak to us. His agent will be keeping him well informed of what our intentions are and the sorts of money we are going to offer.
