Babylon Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 He has said he's happy & wants to stay No, you are reading too much in to it as I've said numerous times to people. Read / listen to exactly what was said and you get a completely different picture to what the Bristol OS has painted with their article. They have taken snippets of what he said, not the whole thing. He never said we wants to stay. Even the Bristol fans who saw the whole thing aren't convinced it was a declaration of intent to stay.
Happy Fox Posted 14 July 2011 Author Posted 14 July 2011 Someone ask Sven if Maynard will come http://www.lcfc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10274~2392136,00.html?
Happy Fox Posted 14 July 2011 Author Posted 14 July 2011 You can tell from their media guy tweets that something isn't totally convincing with the situation
wellyfox Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Sorry mate, wasnt directed at you, just the whole Nikcy Maynard saga in general and the creation of a new thread, yet there are no new develoents Ive lost interest in it, and him aswell to be honest. The guy is messing everyone around. He has a couple of options 1) Sign a contract and stay where he is, 2) Flat out refuse to sign any contract, therefore forcing Brizzles hand to either accept an offer or risk losing him for cheap or free at a later date, 3) Hand in a transfer request, hopefully forcing Brizzle to accept an offer, as they dont want an unhappy player in the changing room. He hasnt done any of those things, instead he is keeping both clubs in limbo. If he signs for us, I'll be pleased, im sure he would do a good job, but right now, i dont really care because it seems like he is taking thepiss a little. Aaaaaand breathe....rant over I don't take offence to anything on here. In a way I'm getting fed up with all this. We should put up a dead line or just pull out now. We are begining to look stupid and even more so after the CMS shite
RyanB89 Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 I agree completely. It's ridiculous to close topics on an open discussion board. This isn't North Korea. It pretty much is
kingfox Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 We paid 5.5 million for Matt Mills, when yes they don't play in the same position but overall Maynard is a much better player than Mills. So why not just pay 5 million or 5.5 million and be done with, it would be worth it on merit he is the best striker in the Championship. Just keep going for him, if we give up and go for Evans it will be a disaster.
John Matrix Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 we haven't paid 5.5 mill yet. we've paid 4 mill if reports are correct.
psychonaut Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 He's not messing anyone around He has said he's happy & wants to stay and he hopes a deal can be done soon... how many more clues do people need. It the exact opposite of Leeds selling Kasper to the first bidders, Brizzle have knocked back all our offers AND the player wants to stay. Not sure why this is being dragged out by us. We're the only people who can't see it's dead, perhaps its just our wishful thinking that we assume everyone will be queuing up to sign for us and Sven, but as we've seen with our targetted forwards, that just isn't the case You are basing this on one sentence that could easily be read either way. You missed out the 'Whatever happens, happens'. Yes he could've meant im happy at BCFC but he couldve also meant that he is just happy playing football on tour right now and my agents are dealing with all that.
kingfox Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Yes if you read my post, we might aswell put a bid in for 5 million. 2.5 it started at didn't it, that's an insult to Bristol City and to Maynard in all fairness, and so 3.5 million. Maynard is better than Mills on overall quality and Mills cost £5.5 million you have seen what Maynard can do and in the past when other clubs have wanted him Bristol City have slapped 4-5 million price tag on him. Don't blame them if that's what they want that's what they want, he is a top quality striker and going above 5 million for the 2nd time in this transfer window could well be worth it.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 “You never know about Masilela. We have Michael Ball if he comes through and Aleksandar Tunchev, although he has a slight injury at the moment. Bloody hell, injured again! We clearly need to develop a special bubble wrap suit for him to play and train in.
woznotwos Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 I can see it now , we wont sign him and second match in for Bristol he has an injury and is out for the season !! He did, am i right , miss a lot of last season through injury. I rate the guy but this worries me . Think the hype surrounding this whole saga is ridiculous , he's shown no desire to come to us and he aint worth 5 million , even if he wasnt injury prone. He obviously wants to stay and become a free agent next season so he can take a club to the cleaners with wage demands, i hope its not us!
MikeyT Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 You are basing this on one sentence that could easily be read either way. You missed out the 'Whatever happens, happens'. Yes he could've meant im happy at BCFC but he couldve also meant that he is just happy playing football on tour right now and my agents are dealing with all that. That's what it'll be, i highly doubt it'll mean just being on tour.
Filthy Fox Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 why do we care so much for maynard? he only scored 6 last season!
Guest Bilo Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 To be honest arguing about what or where he meant by 'happy to stay here' is just semantics. The key sentence has to be 'whatever happens, happens.' That's about as non-committal a response as he can give without actually stating an interest in a move. What hasn't had much attention is Keith Millen's assertion in Sky's regurgitation of the EP article that Maynard's concentration has been affected by the speculation. I think his head has been turned.
thybluefox Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 It would have been very easy for him to say "Once a few details of my contract are sorted out, I'll be signing, I'm happy at Bristol and want to stay". But he didn't, he gave a vague typical answer that could be read a number of ways.
ozleicester Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Is it just me... or is the concept of ... voting for "Abstain"...slightly contrary...and counter productive?
Criggers Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 why do we care so much for maynard? he only scored 6 last season! He didn't play a game until after January and scored 6 in 13. He would be a good signing but the money is becoming obscene and all the hype about him can't really help with the pressure he will start the season under no matter which club it is at.
John Matrix Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Is it just me... or is the concept of ... voting for "Abstain"...slightly contrary...and counter productive? even more so when there's another option about not being bothered
Bezzanator89 Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 even more so when there's another option about not being bothered That's called anticipating people who can no longer give a f*** about the transfer saga.
Babylon Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 My guess... Maynard knows we're interested and his agent probably knows what we'd be offering (we all know that goes on). He and his agent talk with Bristol knowing full well they won't sign the contract (unless Bristol offer something ridiculous). The talks get strung out and Bristol start getting nervous about him not signing. We go back in with an improved offer a bit further down the line, and Bristol have to consider it this time or risk losing him for nothing.

ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 My link I had to chuckle at that.. Deluded muppets
martyn Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 I'm sure it would have been established a long time ago whether Maynard would be interested in a move here, most likely through contact with his agent. The fact we've been compelled to increase our bid 3 times would suggest to me that Maynard might fancy a move, else I'm sure we would not be wasting our time with improved offer after improved offer. We will see.
surrifox Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 reads as if it was written by a 10 year old. I hope that the Bristol constabulary are stocked up with anti riot gear as frenzied football managers storm the gates now that we have raised his saleable value and provoked a rush of interest- oh hold on a minute we are the only ones interested.
