Spudulike Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 If a club playing in better competition or paying silly wages came in for him, then he would drop LCFC like a stone, its business nothing more or less. Spot on. Nice to see the boot on the other foot for a change.
lc4lcfc Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 i can take or leave the guy, a bit overhyped and people seem to forget there are other strikers out there! th thing i picked up on is tunchev has a slight injury... anybody know how serious or the area it is?
purpleronnie Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 What are the odds on him signing a new improved contract at Bristol city?
One Arm Babba Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/Leicester-City-set-step-fourth-bid-striker-Nicky/story-12948966-detail/story.html Leicester City are ready to make their move to sign Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard if he refuses to sign a new contract at Ashton Gate. City have so far had three bids rejected for the 24-year-old, but Sven-Goran Eriksson is not giving up and is prepared to make a fourth bid if necessary. However, Maynard holds the key to any possible move to the King Power Stadium. Bristol have made Maynard, who has one year left on his current contract, an offer of a new deal but he is yet to sign it, and City are confident they could offer him better terms than the Robins. "I want what's best for the club and the best for me as well," said Maynard. "The sooner it's done (contract talks) the better it will be for both parties." Robins boss Keith Millen has appealed to the Bristol board to stand firm and resist the temptation to sell his star striker, especially as City's last bid was nearly £5million. However, if Maynard cannot agree a new deal at Bristol, City will step up their interest again and Eriksson has proved so far this summer that he generally gets his man. So far City have beaten off Premier League competition for Matt Mills and David Nugent, and Neil Danns rejected the chance to play Champions League football with Rangers. City have yet to miss out on a major target and the Mercury understands City withdrew their offer to Craig Mackail-Smith before he joined Brighton & Hove Albion. A fee had been agreed with Peterborough for the striker and he held talks with Eriksson, but City decided to focus all their attention on Maynard. Mackail-Smith is not the only deal Eriksson has walked away from at the last moment. He pulled the plug on the deal to sign South Africa international Tsepo Masilela at the last second after a deal for Liverpool's Paul Konchesky became his preferred option. Masilela had undergone a medical with City and flown to join them in Sweden to complete his loan move from Israeli side Maccabi Haifa, but Eriksson decided not to finalise the transfer, much to the disgust of the player's agent, Paschalis Tountouris. "The medical was okay and we were just waiting for Leicester to offer a contract," Tountouris told Sky Sports. "But when Liverpool saw that Tsepo was going to sign, they reduced their price by 70 per cent for Konchesky. "The way they operated is totally unacceptable. Tsepo had his heart set on a move. "But Konchesky doesn't need a work permit, which was going to take 20 days for Tsepo, he is experienced in England and Eriksson knows him. "This is unfortunately the situation, but I don't think Leicester have dealt with this issue in the proper way." Meanwhile, Ben Mee has joined Burnley on a season-long loan from Manchester City. Mee spent a successful spell with City last season and Eriksson was in talks over extending his stay, but he could not guarantee him a regular first-team place after signing Mills for a club-record fee, Konchesky and Sean St Ledger. Great bit of creative writing by the Mercury and our press officer. That is a blatent attempt at tapping him up in the press. Very clever. It all lies with Maynard now. With all due respect to Bristol City and trying to be impartial, from the outside in Leicester City must look the most attractive championship that there has been in many a year. And to be covetted to spearhead the attack must be very tempting. I really can't see him signing a new deal with Bristol City whilst our interest remains.
escos Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 We don't need to tap him up. He is in his last year of his contract which means he can talk to other clubs. Doesn't it?
Babylon Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 We don't need to tap him up. He is in his last year of his contract which means he can talk to other clubs. Doesn't it? No. Anyway he's not an idiot, he will be well aware of our interest and that he can influence what happens.

Got the impression that it would take longer to recover from than before his contract runs out on Aug1st, therefore not proving his fitness to Sven as required by what Sven said at the end of the season
wellyfox Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 Well the merc has done it again. Last week we was told that an offer was on the table and not been refused. On brizzles site last nite i read that an offer of 5.3Mill inc add ons was sat on brizzels table and had not been refused. Reason incase NM refuses A new contract. Now the merc says we are going in with another offer. Untill they all get real facts why can't they shut the F%ck up Oh and the post on the brizzel site sounds like she's in the know like burt is
escos Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 No. Anyway he's not an idiot, he will be well aware of our interest and that he can influence what happens. Is it the last six months of his contract then??
Babylon Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 Is it the last six months of his contract then?? Not sure, I know you can going abroad (I remember Steve Mac' doing it) not sure about this country.

So it's not possible that they are more in the know than someone on a forum? It's not possible there has been developed and the offer was refused? Do you expect a paper to wait 'until they have all the facts' before printing something? Thank you for you're insightful knowledge into the current world. This post has made me feel a lot more optimistic about getting a job, at least I'll be ahead of you in the pecking order.

artursteppe Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 My mate who's in Sweden just text me telling me he'd had a chat with Sven and Sven's said that Nicky wants to join Leicester So Sven sends a letter round to everyone at the training ground and at the club to be discreet about any possible signings, then blabs to a stranger that Maynard wants to join Leicester.
acooling08 Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 Sorry but Maynard is not worth more than £4 million tops. He's championship quality. Hernandez was only £6 million and he's a 20 goal a season striker for Man U!
cc_star Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 Sorry but Maynard is not worth more than £4 million tops. He's championship quality. Hernandez was only £6 million and he's a 20 goal a season striker for Man U! 'Worth' has nothing to do with anything if someone you want is not for sale

Carlos9 Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 Sorry but Maynard is not worth more than £4 million tops. He's championship quality. Hernandez was only £6 million and he's a 20 goal a season striker for Man U! Bebe cost them 7.... Akinbadbuy was 5.3... People make mistakes. Hernandez was a young player who came from out of the country and was a risk that paid off massively. Ferrgy didn't expect Hernandez to develop so quickly.
cc_star Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 Sorry but Maynard is not worth more than £4 million tops. He's championship quality. Hernandez was only £6 million and he's a 20 goal a season striker for Man U! in addition to my previous comment 'Worth' has nothing to do with anything if someone you want is not for sale Connor Wickham changed the Championhsip landscape this summer with a fee rising to £13m and Southampton are after £12m for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a player who's played one season in League1... one fecking season! Players cost, especially when they're not for sale
Woollett's Wellies Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 I thought I'd have a look at the BCFC forums just to see the latest and..Well, bit of a change of mood there! Realisation that their owner isn't going to spend a lot of money. Perhaps we should take the offer and buy 2/3 players etc. Even the standard 'Im turning against my hero' you'd expect from some. Of course it's all rumour at both ends but if this meeting between Maynard & Millen is today then it'll be interesting to see if Maynard is still in the BCFC squad for their friendly against Plymouth tonight.
millzi Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 in addition to my previous comment 'Worth' has nothing to do with anything if someone you want is not for sale Connor Wickham changed the Championhsip landscape this summer with a fee rising to £13m and Southampton are after £12m for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a player who's played one season in League1... one fecking season! Babylon Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 Hernandez was only £6 million and he's a 20 goal a season striker for Man U! He wasn't when they signed him, he was a punt. Man U can take punts like that. To buy a PROVEN prem striker you are looking at £20m at least. We want a proven champ striker.
martyn Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 I see the comparison with Hernandez has been wheeled out again. There are at least 3 reasons why the fees could not and should not be compared but they are so obvious I won't bother regurgitating them.
lestajigs Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 My mate who's in Sweden just text me telling me he'd had a chat with Sven and Sven's said that Nicky wants to join Leicester Is ut mate the bus driver
Jimbo Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 Sorry but Maynard is not worth more than £4 million tops. He's championship quality. Hernandez was only £6 million and he's a 20 goal a season striker for Man U! But Hernandez was bought as a talented youngster who would hopefully one day becaome a first team player. That's a lot of money to risk. If you want to compare it to Man U's transfer dealings us signing Maynard for 5 million is like them signing Berbatov for 30 million
