tomtom Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Absolutely. His goals ratio last season may look good but bare in mind that his was our only out-and-out striker and he scored most of them towards the end of the season when there wasn't much to play for. My opinion of him is he's slow, old, lazy, clumbersome and misses a lot of good chances. I also don't think he fits into Sven's aim of signing players with a real desire to play for Leicester. If we are going to play the same system as last year, we NEED the striker to have good movement. £4m and high wages with all that in mind, no thanks. Slow? No Old? No Missed a load of chances? Not really Scored them towards the end of the season? Well he didn't join till half way through it!
sdb Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 I agree with you apart from the scoring record part. Yakubu: 2nd Tier games - 34, goals - 18 Maynard 2nd Tier games - 104, goals - 38 The scoring averages of the two are not comparable at all 1 in 2, 1 in just less than 3. Not miles apart. Especially when you consider Yak was either with Pompey, who were outstanding back then, or us last season, with a very tidy squad (attacking wise). Maynard has been in a mid table side and also bearing in mind has played a few games after serious injury where you'd expect him to be pretty rusty.
TheUltimateWinner Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Yakubu would be the cheaper option even including his wages. I'd go for Yakubu.
accessory Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Sven's interviews in Sweden have made it clear what he thinks of Yakubu. If he's put another bid in for him, it's probably just a bargaining ploy in order to put pressure on Maynard - in other words, just another Masilela/Konchesky situation.

Craig Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 I'd love Yak here. Nugent puts in a shift, Yak bangs them in. Lovely.
wattolcfc Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 What's he said about him? He says he's sick of Yakubu (King Dong) stealing all of Svens women!
Charl91 Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Slow? No Old? No Missed a load of chances? Not really Scored them towards the end of the season? Well he didn't join till half way through it! I disagree with the slow part
millzi Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 He says he's sick of Yakubu (King Dong) stealing all of Svens women! Doesn't surprise me, that man has a lot of lovin' to be givin' I imagine. Plenty to go round
Ricey Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Slow? No Old? No Missed a load of chances? Not really Scored them towards the end of the season? Well he didn't join till half way through it! Slow? Yes, it takes him ages to get going. Old? If Yakubu isn't at least 32 then I'll buy a hat and eat it. Missed a load of chances? I saw him miss some sitters whilst he was with us. Scored them towards the end of the season? he scored 7 of the 11 goals in April and May when our season was effectively over, he rarely scored when we really needed him to.
millzi Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 I don't know why people are so anti-Yak, in my opinion he is DEFINITELY better than anything we have at the minute, and he is Premier League quality.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Slow? Yes, it takes him ages to get going. Old? If Yakubu isn't at least 32 then I'll buy a hat and eat it. Missed a load of chances? Common sense would suggest that if science says he is 28 then he is more than likely to be 28. It annoys me that people say he didn't score when it matters but the whole team played shite in those games. Also how many points did we gain BECAUSE of the Yaks goals? Would love him here. Imagine a forward line of Yak, Nugent, Maynard. As good as anything we have had since Smith & Lineker were together. Each with different strengths. Would be awesome.
Charl91 Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Common sense would suggest that if science says he is 28 then he is more than likely to be 28. Like i'v said before, i'd like the Yak here, but where does Science say he's 28?
Narborough_fox Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Like i'v said before, i'd like the Yak here, but where does Science say he's 28? Well he'd of had tests at Everton to determine his age when doing his medical.
Happy Fox Posted 17 July 2011 Author Posted 17 July 2011 The Yak scores goals, that is all I have to say on the matter, It is up to Sven whether he wants to pursue this or go with Maynard
Charl91 Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Well he'd of had tests at Everton to determine his age when doing his medical. I'm not so sure. I know absolutely nothing about medical tests, but I wouldn't assuume that they'd ever test age. Then again, I'm probably wrong.
Ashley Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 I'm not so sure. I know absolutely nothing about medical tests, but I wouldn't assuume that they'd ever test age. Then again, I'm probably wrong. You do realise they would be able to tell his age through MRI scans etc?
Charl91 Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 You do realise they would be able to tell his age through MRI scans etc? Obviously not
sdb Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 We are not having this Nigerian age argument again are we?
Happy Fox Posted 17 July 2011 Author Posted 17 July 2011 Am I right in thinking that that wages will be the problem in this transfer saga, or will the Yak accept a pay cut?
tomtom Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Slow? Yes, it takes him ages to get going. Old? If Yakubu isn't at least 32 then I'll buy a hat and eat it. Missed a load of chances? What striker doesn't miss chances,.... I prefer to look at the chances he took,..and took well! 11 goals was a good return for the amount of time he was here
dannythefox Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 I think its worth paying him a bit more it would still be cheaper than Maynard but Maynard is one for the future. I like the Yak he will score 18+ in a full season. Its a tricky one.
deep blue Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Don't understand the rumour of a new bid. I thought our last bid had been accepted by Everton and the only stumbling block was the terms Yak wanted. Nor can I see it as a ploy to put pressure on Maynard; either he wants away from Bristol or he doesn't. If he does, then we're the only club showing any sign of being definitely in for him (as far as we can guess).
