Lcfclee Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Is The Yak Coming Back or not im going as mad as waiting for news
wattolcfc Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Yeah and that person said our previous bid was £3.5m. Ok you win babs David Nugent would offer the pace outlet obviously not to the extent of someone like Maynard, but he still relatively quick Agreed but would Heskey & the Yak be happy with a place on the bench? 10 years ago they'd have been insane. Now I feel they'd lack mobility as a pair. It's also mean changing our formation and ideally looking for out and out wingers. Maynard's still my first choice but i'm happy with the three we're being linked to. Agree with this.
Happy Fox Posted 17 July 2011 Author Posted 17 July 2011 Ok you win babs Agreed but would Heskey & the Yak be happy with a place on the bench? It is a team game therefore rotation is essential this was something that was lacking last season, unlikely that every striker will start every game Agree with this.
millzi Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 I'd love to be proved wrong but I don't think Yakubu and Heskey would work well together, not enough pace. But again, we shall see. The pace can come from other areas though. I do get where you are coming from entirely, but strikers don't necessarily have to be fast to be good, these two players excel in other areas, such as Heskey is one of the best players around (especially who we have a chance at signing) for holding up the ball and allowing other players to make room. For me a combination of Yak and Heskey would be almost ideal, Heskey does the hold up and the dirty work and brings others players into play whilst Yakubu buries them in right, left and centre. With Nugent behind them as well who isn't all that slow and players like King, Danns and Gallagher that could all be brought into the game and bagging a few goals.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Heskey and Yakubu makes me think of the goal Yak scored against Doncaster at the end of last season - Howard attracting a couple of defenders, laying it off and Yak poking it into the corner. Pace or no pace, they'd be a handful. I don't think we'll sign both of them though. And I can't decide which I'd prefer either. Didn't think we posed enough aerial threat with Yak in the team, but Heskey wouldn't score as many goals. Either one would be a great addition.
Nacho Libra Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Evertonian in peace Lots of EFC fans want Yak to stay, he scores goals However it now looks like he's off for sure, was supposed to go to America with the squad, was on the panel But one of our most reliable ITK's (Shorty on NSNO ) is now saying he was mysteriously dropped from the squad and will be staying behind This happened yesterday Make what you will but it co-incides with other rumours of an increased Foxes bid

We will happily take him off your hands

We will happily take him off your hands Will be sad to see him leave I trust Shorty, if he says he's not going on our pre-season, then he's not Shorty is most likely one of the coaching staff, he usually knows about injuries and team news http://www.nsno.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,13061.0.html After that, I've heard the same rumours as you guys about an increased bid Best of luck to him, he'll score goals wherever he goes (as he did in our preseason friendly against Bury, by all accounts, looked sharp)

And we don't need our "Plan A' to involve a great aerial threat. Having an option like Howard on the bench allows us that option later in games when Plan A isn't working. But I certainly agree with the first point. Having 2 "big names" will cause a lot of problems for Championship defences. Having just one, in Yakubu, saw a massive upturn in Andy King's form just after the Nigerian arrived.

Nacho Libra Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 If you be so kind, what kind of wages does he have at everton and do you think he would be willing to lower them or not Don't know for sure but I've heard 35K p/w, I reckon he just wants to play, he likes being the main man, when Saha came along he looked a bit less interested because Moyes loves Louis My best guess is, get us promoted and we'll give you X type deal I'm off to the cinema now with the kids, all the best

From what I have read, the problem is said to be that Yak doesn't want to drop down into the Championship. So maybe if there haven't been any other firm offers, has he changed his mind? All speculation of course, but I would be very pleased if he did sign for City.
CosbehFox Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Dont be surprised if a Turkish club are in for him too, Yobo was at Fenerbahce last season and wanted to sign him. Yobo is his best mate. Bursaspor were also interested.

Legend_in_blue Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Having seen the highlights of the Bury game on SSN, tbf to Yakubu he did look as though he'd lost a fair bit of weight. He even appeared to run over 10 yards without slowing down. If he's fitter, leaner and quicker, I'm all for this. Bring him in.
Happy Fox Posted 17 July 2011 Author Posted 17 July 2011 If Sven thinks he is up for it then bring him in
StarFox Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Not getting my hopes up but I would like the Yak or Heskey to join. Maybe even both
Collymore Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Absolutely. His goals ratio last season may look good but bare in mind that his was our only out-and-out striker and he scored most of them towards the end of the season when there wasn't much to play for. My opinion of him is he's slow, old, lazy, clumbersome and misses a lot of good chances. I also don't think he fits into Sven's aim of signing players with a real desire to play for Leicester. If we are going to play the same system as last year, we NEED the striker to have good movement. £4m and high wages with all that in mind, no thanks. Pace is such a complex subject in football. I was listening to Talksport the other day when the presenter asked "who's the quickest player in the premier league" you then had loads of numbskulls realing off the fast players at their clubs. To ask this question properly you need to define a distance, over 10 metres or 100? Over 25 meters or 75? With a ball at the feet or without? Let's take Aaron Lennon and yarya toure, Lennon would probably destroy toure over a short distance, but if they had to run from box to box giving toure a chance to open up those long legs then it would be a different story. The Yak however is deceptively fast, take that goal against Middlesbrough where he sealed his hat trick, he looked like he was going for a slow jog in the park while the defender was moving his legs and arms with real purpose. He couldn't get close to the yak though!
Charl91 Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 You don't genuinely think he is lying about his age do you? Maybe, maybe not. It is/was common practice in Nigerian football, as it makes the players more valuable. It's been well documented many times, you only have to do a quick search to realise that. Nigeria have been centeral to many football related age scandals in the past. Questions have been brought up about Yaks ages before aswell. I'm not saying he's definitely over 28, only that it is a possibility. And if it was true, then he might be on the decline earlier then we think/warrant a cheaper fee. However, i'l trust Svens judgement And even if he was 47 years old I couldn't give a flying f#ck, he scores goals, that's a strikers job! Goals win games. Winning games gets us up that table. Thanks, Captain Obvious! Without your sterling work, I would never have realised that goals win games. Anyway, I said I wouldn't be upset with the Yak coming back, just that I'd prefer Maynard.
sdb Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Maynard for me. Lower wages, more mobile, younger, scoring record at this level comparable to Yaks 20 games with us. I'd happily take either, mind.
FoxyPalace.com Posted 17 July 2011 Posted 17 July 2011 Yakubu removed from the Everton FC online store, Cant find him for 2011/2012 season You cant buy his shirt What do you think is this a sign he's on the move Look http://evertondirect.evertonfc.com/stores/everton/products/kit_selector.aspx?pid=87925&portal=&cmp=

I agree with you apart from the scoring record part. Yakubu: 2nd Tier games - 34, goals - 18 Maynard 2nd Tier games - 104, goals - 38 The scoring averages of the two are not comparable at all
