broughtonblue Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 With Sir Alex getting on a bit, I believe United should appoint his successor to serve along side him for a couple of years. I believe the United managers job is unique, with the expectation and fan base around the world it surely would benefit the incoming manager to learn off the 'Master' Who do you think should be that man? Obviously Mouriniho will be linked with the job but I don't think with his attitude he would be prepared to play second fiddle to anyone, even Fergie. My candidate to take on this almost impossible job (no trophies for a couple of years would be deemed as failure) is David Moyes, quiet, calm, and done a decent job with a an average team. Your thoughts on the best man?
ajthefox Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 I think it's a poisoned challice and anyone who comes in will have to do very well straight from the off. It'll be very interesting to see what happens, particularly with regard to the managerial selection since the Glazers haven't had to deal with that yet and they are obviously not very popular with United fans as it is. Moyes would be a good shout I think, but I think that's probably too low profile and simple of a choice for many. Hughes will be up there with the bookies I rekon and possibly MON too, but I think there are no end of people who will have their name in the running for this.
rico Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 Darren Ferguson, will save on changing merchandise and stuff
Maybes Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 MON. Only one MON for the job. Moyes has been touted on several occassions and I think he'd do a good job. It will be a very interesting appointment when the time arises thats for sure.
Libertine Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 Mourinho seems the only one big enough and good enough to be able to succeed someone like Ferguson.
Lovejoy Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 Mourinho seems the only one big enough and good enough to be able to succeed someone like Ferguson. Pep is allegedly leaving Barca next summer, can't see too many turning their nose up if he was in the running.

OriginalRobboFOX Posted 17 June 2011 Posted 17 June 2011 MON, mourinho, some are suggesting the current Porto boss too (although he's relatively inexperienced) Villas sp, maybe Pep Guardiola???
Fox92 Posted 17 June 2011 Posted 17 June 2011 I've always said David Moyes. He's worked wonders at Everton considering he's got no money to spend. With that tight budget he has taken Everton to several high positions within the Premier League. He does seem to get the best out of the players and I like it how he buys lower division players and transforms them into top flight players, such as Tim Cahill and Phil Jagielka.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 17 June 2011 Posted 17 June 2011 None of the people like MON, Moyes, Bruce, Hughes etc are anywhere near big time enough. Such a different challenge from getting a mid table side to punch above their weight. Your going to pretty much the biggest club in the world who demand success and let me tell you, there sure as hell wont be any 4 year bedding in period this time
ACF Posted 17 June 2011 Posted 17 June 2011 Moyes always gets it on FM. Steve Bruce did on mine after I turned it down!
Jon the Hat Posted 17 June 2011 Posted 17 June 2011 It will be a different role when Fergie goes. He is an old school manager who has his finger in all the pies as it were. Clearly anyone coming in won't be able to do that, so expect it to be a significant change in management structure.
The Doctor Posted 17 June 2011 Posted 17 June 2011 Moyes always gets it on FM. not always - on my game they appointed Mick McCarthy when fergie retired.
davieG Posted 17 June 2011 Posted 17 June 2011 They had massive problems finding a replacement for Matt Busby it took them years to find Fergie, I can see them having the same problem this time. You need someone who can get along with big egos I don't think MON can do that, besides the trend for big clubs seems to be to go foreign.
Sly Posted 18 June 2011 Posted 18 June 2011 I think the entire management structure will need to change. I wouldn't be surprised if it was Carlos Querioz or someone that Alwx picks himself.
Joeb.lcfc Posted 18 June 2011 Posted 18 June 2011 Andrea Villas Boas from Porto is a good shout dubbed the new Mourinho
The Year Of The Fox Posted 19 June 2011 Posted 19 June 2011 When he goes, man utd will not win the league again for at least 5years. He single handedly made em who they are today
