FuriousFox46 Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 Posh fans seem to hate Leicester a lot. I've seen countless car stickers with a Posh fan pissing on a Leicester shirt.. and my friends who support Posh hate us too... It's worth noting I live in Northants. Do you see them as rivals?
Marmite Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 I have enjoyed my last 2 trips to Peterborough, I would class them as rivals no doubt... the A47 derby. Granted its not as big as playing Forest but the next best thing They will hate us even more if we buy Mackell- Smith off them and he bags the winner at there place
FuriousFox46 Posted 28 June 2011 Author Posted 28 June 2011 It's because we're better than them Wouldn't that mean everyone hates us? :\
Jon the Hat Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 its cool to hate the big team nearby? Why do any fans hate fans of other clubs? It is a question of belonging, and the human need to have an enemy. This is why football is popular at all. ONE TRIBE!
jonthefox Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 They tried to get some rivalry thing going in the brian little era. never came to much.
Yojoe36 Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 Wouldn't that mean everyone hates us? :\ Mind you, when we beat Forest they say "We only care about Derby. Leicester aren't even our rivals" But when they win they can't stop going on about it, the hypocrites Anyway, posh are a small club, looking for a bit of banter, cause no gives 2 s**** about 'em
John Matrix Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 probably cos the nicest part of their town is comparable to the worst part of Leicester. The only reason anyone goes to P'boro is to pick up a passport.
CosbehFox Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 They tried to get some rivalry thing going in the brian little era. never came to much. They had good reason too. Two years on the trot we had half of their ground and infamously built a bonfire in their awayend. When they played us the next game at Filbo, we didn't give them any away allocation cos the Carling Stand was going up. The ground was 60% full. Other than that we're the nearest thing we have to them as a big club. Historically it's Northampton and Cambridge, both stuck in lower division. I must enjoyed walloping them 4-0 and sending their Flask Army crying into their Campbell's Tomato Soup all the way back home. Equally I hated losing to them 2-0 but loved when Cheltenham ruined their bid for Champions.
Dan Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 We're their most local biggish side. Be fair here - look at the league table, if you were in Peterborough's position, what games apart from the obvious Leeds/West Ham, would you be most up for? It's a non-rivalry but I can see why they see it as a big game.
Guest Bilo Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 They're just desperate for us to reciprocate the loathing so they can have a rivalry with a club that isn't in non-league (Cambridge) or isn't just incredibly embarrassing (MK Dons).
The Doctor Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 Looking at other clubs forums it would appear pretty much everyone hates us.
codbolt2 Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 Thanks that cheered me up , rivals , maybe in a one off game they could get a win but as a club they will never be rivals and i think most their fans realise that
Zingari Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 Looking at other clubs forums it would appear pretty much everyone hates us. not enough to be their main hate though we're always second or third hated , never really detested it's like always being the bridesmaid , never the bride
Corky Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 Because we beat them 4-0 and they got a little over-excited when the ball hit the side netting.
Bayfox Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 This dates back along while as detailed earlier in this thread, but it's mainly a 1 sided rivalry, they see us as the nearest big club, which by distance terms a straight trip down the A47 we are. I find it fancinating in a way, a bit like F-Word and Derby dismiss us and we have a rivalry with Cov that we dismiss slightly because they are so insignificant. Posh look at us as a scalp, yet to us it means very little.
accessory Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 I have enjoyed my last 2 trips to Peterborough, I would class them as rivals no doubt... the A47 derby. Granted its not as big as playing Forest but the next best thing They will hate us even more if we buy Mackell- Smith off them and he bags the winner at there place Neighbours maybe (we're the nearest big team to them even though we're 40+ miles away), but NEVER rivals. Rivals are clubs with similar histories and fanbases, like Forest or Derby. Regardless of their league status, Peterborough as a club are closer to Kettering and Rushden & Diamonds than they are to us. As with Coventry, their fans have delusions of grandeur, hence the one-sided "rivalry".

LCFC_ED Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 i also live in northampton. i think the posh fans are now used to being higher than the teams near them e.g northampton, cambridge etc so just want someone bigger nearish to them to dislike. maybe it was partly due to our league one campaign.
Spudulike Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 Do they still run out to the Post Horn Gallop That's enough to hate them.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 They dont like us because they are jealous of us. They want the fan base, and the new stadium like we have. They would never admit it but its true. Also we are their biggest game in recent years, geographically anyway. They dont have the Northampton or Cambridge rivalry any more, we are the nearest club. They go all 'big time Charlie' with a little bit of success and they think they are a big club and go all arrogant. Pathetic club really. Showed when we were in league 1 and they caught us up a bit, some fans even started saying they were better than us and they would be the ones making the PO's in the next season. I hate them for all those reasons, and just the fact I live in Peterborough. Dont have proper fans, and are the most tin pot club you can ever come accross. Do they still run out to the Post Horn Gallop That's enough to hate them. Agree with you there, it was cringeworthy. Remember having an arguement with Posh fans on 606 about how it is Leicestershire tradition and to do with fox hunting but they seemed to think fox hunting was mainly done in Peterborough!!! But I'm pretty sure they dont run out to it any more, not heard it in the last few visits.
