Jobyfox Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 It's actually not occurred to me before, but I thought it was odd for SGE to go after Beckford (who is in the squad) rather than Yakubu (who is not in the squad). I can think of only one answer: wages. Is Beckford on substantially less than the Yak and that's why a move for the latter is not sustainable?

The article that has appeared today has made me think that it was actually Everton trying to get us to be the ones to take him...
foxes2011 Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 why would everton sell us a player they often use in there first team..... this is just stupid obviously they are not going to sell him when he played 33 games last season http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jermaine_Beckford there really must be something up with moyes if he dosnt pick yakubu over anichebe, anichebe has only scored seven goals in his career with everton http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victor_Anichebe

Horibbly Wrong Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 I'm not a div, I'm a spag Haha!!!! :crylaugh: what a comeback
artursteppe Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 There are rumours that Arsenal are after Arteta, with money plus Bendtner going to Everton. This could 'free up' either Beckford or Yukubu to us if we actually do want one of them ( or both ? ).
ceebeefox Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 Could King be going the other way in a deal? He has been messed about in the early games and we have added midfielders when we didn't need them maybe?Last season it was rumoured.
MGLCFC Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 I wouldn't say King has been messed about - he's just not playing well enough to deserve a place in the first team at present.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 Personally I would take a hit on losing king if it meant getting beckford
LCFC_FoRdY Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 King has been below average of late, but in the long run he will become a valuable player. Beckford would be an amazing signing but may cost a lot in the long run nif we pay him prem wages. Not a very valuable source but Dan Walker on Football focus the other week said something about Beckford currently reviewing an offer from a championship club... us? who knows... In :sge: we trust
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 IMO, a better signing than Maynard. I believe he would do well under Sven, and is a much more determined character. As I have said before, love him, or hate him, he IS quality, plus the fire, and desire we need. Methinks, Maynard is something of a poser, and lacks desire. He is an excellent opportunist, but not a thinker, and never really looks "Fired Up." Beckford, does have this attribute, though sometimes goes over the top..

That's an unusually polite DT, understating this point. I'm just surprised anybody could accuse Beckford of being a 'thinker'
Howard9 Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 TransferHawkEye Transfer Hawk Eye #lcfc could be about to follow up their first bid for Jermaine Beckford, with a 2nd bid of around £4.5m #lcfc
The People's Hero Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 TransferHawkEye Transfer Hawk Eye #lcfc could be about to follow up their first bid for Jermaine Beckford, with a 2nd bid of around £4.5m #lcfc I actually came on here to share this news, albeit without any idea on the quantum. I have a friend who isn't really interested in football but hears a lot of stuff about what is going on at a few clubs and he's just rang me not long ago to let me know Leicester have improved their bid for Beckford. Apparently its a substantial bid. My issue really is that if we were serious about Beckford, we should have wrapped it up a week or so ago. With Yakubu and Anichebe seeming to be 'for sale' - how many are Everton going to let go? They don't have long now to go shopping for replacements. I do understand though that most fees incoming will be deposited straight in the well overdrawn bank accounts. Who knows? Anyway, I've been around here long enough for most of you to know I wouldn't bullsh1t you. Take it as you wish. What I found most interesting was that I really thought we'd be back in for Yakubu - and maybe we are, but its odd that he rang me specifically with this bit of news about Beckford...

The People's Hero Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 Much prefer Beckford. Well, my understanding is that the bid has not been rejected out of hand, so you may be a happy boy/girl by tomorrow's deadline. I have never really rated him, but I've not seen a lot of him and trust Sven much more than I trust my own judgement on football matters.
The People's Hero Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 TPH is the new liamlcfc1 Haha. Mate, I just get the odd bit here and there and its very rare I hear anything about Leicester since I'm down here in Maidstone. I just share what I get. I can promise you the guy wouldn't make this up. To be fair, he's got some crackers in the past well before the media have been on to it, but will not reveal his source. He knows a lot of people though within the cricket world and I know he also drinks with a few football agents - so he obviously gets the odd bit here and there. Cricket stuff wouldn't interest most, but I knew for example that Kent (then Notts) were after Gurney quite a while before I saw anything about it elsewhere.
