Oi!

Who said he had a medical?

My Father rang up someone high up at the club around 14:00, (business/sponsorship side) and the bloke, I'm not naming on here, said nobody has had a medical today at the ground so far, only a few 'conversations over the phone.'

Most of you are highly like to believe I'm wumming here, (here's the evidence of not) but with my having Father part of the consortium which saved the club from going bust whilst in administration, putting over £150k into the club (yes really) during that time and has been a box holder ever since there were boxes at the old ground, he has met and known the directors, sales people there and does not.

End of lecture, but there's some shit-spreaders around here.....

He hasn't had a medical as of before or at 14:00.

He's as ambitious as CMS.

Big fish, small pond syndrome.

He isn't worth more than £3.5m. That's the price for a decent championship but unproven premiership striker.

Bristol tinpot City will regret the day they turned down silly money for him. Shame on them.

Anyway, he's done us a good turn - Beckford at £4m is a far better use of the money.

I disagree to all of this.

Maynard didn't get a chance to talk to us + his agent would have been doing all the 'convincing Maynard what to do and what not to do" probably expecting Bristol to cave in and accept the bid. If he handed a transfer request in he says goodbye to a hefty signing on fee.

Maynard is a better player than Beckford IMO but thats just my opinion. I think he has more flair, quicker, younger and a better attitude.

Still not going to moan with Beckford. Good player!

It's the invasion of the Bristol yokels i'm looking forward to.

Bring the idiots on, I genuinely feel sorry for them.

And I'm sure 90% of their fans would agree with me - turning down 6 - 7 million for a striker that's now inevitably going to leave for either a pittance or for nothing at all is painful.

Anyone that believes their board are willing to pump in millions and can afford to ignore that sort of fee is a complete clown, where's their impressive squad if that were the case?

I'll be accused of delusional bias by their moron fans but I can't say I care; given we appear to have landed a better striker for cheaper, out of the blue, on deadline day this looks far more like we've played them than the visa versa.

Can't say we didn't try. Interested to see the future of Maynard, but it looks highly unlikely it's with us- whether that be now, January or next summer.

Good luck to him, he's destined for better things.

I'm not sure what you're saying. Has he signed or not?

Well done on your Dad's generosity, just don't ride that one into the sun chief.

I'd love us to sign Maynard but do have to question his ambition. He is obviously content with playing another season in a poor team which could, if he fails to score goals, ruin his possible premier league move next summer. Rather than wanting a big percentage of the fee he could have handed in a transfer request like Gradel did and got a decent move and probably made that fee up with his potential wage and bonuses here. Poor showing from Mr Maynard imo, gone down in my estimations!

I'm going to say Beckford > Maynard.

Now don't get me wrong, I was well in favour of Maynard joining, but Beckford is a better player with a better scoring record and I never for a second expected Beckford to be even faintly interested in signing for us. We've anywhere between £2m-£3m better off than if we had signed Maynard and have a striker with a longer record of striking consistency who has impressed at Premiership level. This isn't a 'oh i neva wanted im neway' type post, more a 'can't believe our luck' type post because Maynard turning us down could have been disastrous.

With the £2-3m we've saved by getting in a better striker as well as the rumoured sell-on fee incurred by Gradel's departure to St. Etienne, we could be half way to signing Jelavic as well who with all due respect is undeniably superior to pretty much anyone in the Championship.

Meanwhile Bristol City have signed Ryan McGivern. Good luck boys.

This. But Beckford must open been pushed out the door quite hard bet the lad wonders what he's done wrong with a great first season in the prem. Good business for Everton though.

I bet the Brizzle fans are happy now.

They kept the prize asset turned down a shit load.

Got nothing to spend and the best bit.

Some fookers gonna get him in a 50p lucky dip bag at Xmas.

Maynard is a good striker and will probably go on to do well in the PREM next year. Might even be with us. However I do think we were told he did not wish to leave Bristol currently and that, as someone posted a while ago, was more thank likely down to his own impending new arrival.

Big mistake by the wurzells the golden egg is cracking !! Every players has his price and Maynard wasn't worth £6 mil plus no way. Hope he goes for free now :))

Posted

Well the ball was always in his court and he can sit back n wait to see if a prem team comes calling in january when the fee will be relatively small or tough it out until the end of the season and go where he likes.

He could even be a very rare bird and stay at brizzle.

We get promoted then pick him up on a free in the summer, everyone's a winner.

Apart from the wurzels. :giggle:
