dave the caveman Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 Does anyone agree that the amount of mind-blowing decisions we see in football these days could be the result of match fixing? Today is an ok example. Decisions so wrong that they are more comfortably explained by malicious intent than incompetence. And with the respect referees bullshit so high on the agenda, they've got plenty of protection to hide behind. They are barely paid a penny so that would explain the motive. All it takes is a handful of poor decisions, which as long as they only throw a few matches per season, will go down as human mistakes. Just look at todays ref's hatepage on facebook, looks like he has thrown around three matches in the last year, which could have pocketed him tens of thousands.
funkyrobot Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 Thought refs we well paid these days? Not sure about fixing but I do think the standard of refereeing at championship level is very poor. Most want to be in the limelight, a good ref blends into the background.
Jaspa Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 There's definatly something going on, whether it helps the sport or not I don't know. We know football is a very corrupt sport though, all the way from FIFA down. Hope oneday it can all become clear . . . Properly

Guest Bilo Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 I may make jokes about it but I don't honestly believe referees are paid by clubs. If caught, the punishment would be so enormous and the damage to a club's reputation so bad it wouldn't be worth it. Say Forest did pay the ref today and were caught. They'd probably be demoted one or more divisions, incur an enormous fine, lose all of their coaching staff and probably see their backroom staff banned from football, lose millions in sponsorship and incur untold damage to the Nottingham Forest name. For a point in a match in August? Come off it. We do need to do something about the standard of officiating in the modern game because for every strong refereeing performance, we seem to see three or four absolute stinkers. What we need to do in my opinion is train referees as we would players, not just ex-teachers, policemen and shopkeepers. How many players and managers have that sort of background? We're making the mistake of assuming the simple fact that a referee is paid alone makes him a professional. We see week-in, week-out that this isn't necessarily the case. I don't necessarily support ex-players as referees however. Could you expect, for example, Steve Walsh to impartially run a Forest or Derby game? Or Muzzy Izzet to do the same with a Leeds game when he received anti-Turkish abuse every time he played against them, and probably would the minute he gave a decision against Leeds? Ex-players would probably be more likely to be swayed by emotions than the current mob. What is clear though is that something needs to be done. A good referee should be a near invisible arbiter, a bad one will pervert the result of the game and that certainly happened today as well as on numerous other occasions.
Bert Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 No. But I do believe that sometimes at the slightest chance they can do they give anything they can do, and this season very much so against us.
MC Prussian Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 It has nothing to do with match-fixing, more so with referees that are not up to the job and referees that feel hard done by once their actions are overshadowed by good football.
Jaspa Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 No Manager nowaday dares question a decision (Bar England WC2010). Every interview they either havnt seen it or they agree with a differant line of it. I think that shows alot. To add, just seen the highlights GTFO of this club NOW Weale!!
Yojoe36 Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 . Let's not make silly excuses here. The was a c***, but I'm sure match fixing is taking it too far However, 5 mins added time seemed a bit... you know
AndyBrew Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 No mention on the BBC of a dodgy refreree just a stupid goalie, their words not mine.
MC Prussian Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 Behave. You're a referee. That makes you biased.

wagfox Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 ] As a qualified ref i dont think we can say todays episode was match fixing. We played into Forests and the refs hands by trying to hold onto our lead. We played bloody great first half, completely in controll. Every where we go this season we are gonna get bad decisions due to our money, and refs love to even things up.
dave the caveman Posted 20 August 2011 Author Posted 20 August 2011 and refs love to even things up. which is not much less disgraceful than match fixing.
Fox92 Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 He was poor today, but just like the referee from Middlesbrough away last season where the same thing occured (apart from Bruma was sent off). It is a very hard job but todays referee didn't look fit, and some of the decisions were more than ridiculas. Quick note, todays referee is a referee, a headteacher and a manager of a sunday league side Job satisfaction
Father Ted Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 This really wouldn't surprise me, it happens everywhere in the world in all the leagues. Anybody else notice the lino constantly flagging us offside even when it was clear that we weren't on a couple of occasions? Very dodgy. Anybody got the refs name?

Guest Bilo Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 No. He was just shit. That's all there is to it.
