accessory Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 As seen on TV.. Schmeichel - 7. Coped easily with whatever his old side threw at him. Peltier - 7. Solid performance and unlucky not to make the scoresheet. Mills - 8*. Had Miller in his pocket, best City display to date. Bamba - 7. Another excellent display, slightly spoilt by the late booking. Konchesky - 6. Useful in attack, useless in defence. Not mobile enough to be comfortable with a diamond midfield. Abe - 6. Intermittent, not involved enough to make quality count. Wellens - 6. Decent in first half, less so in the second. King - 6. Still not firing on all cylinders, missed glorious chance late on. Fernandes - 5. Faded badly in second half, could have been brought off earlier. Beckford - 5. Too often bullied by Hudson and Gerrard, suffered from lack of service. Vassell - 5. Waited 85 minutes for chance, then wasted it badly. Hit bar when it was easier to score. Schlupp - 6. Unsettled defence when he came on, shame he wasn't paired with Beckford. Johnson - N/A. Showed promise on league debut, hope he gets longer run-out soon. Sven - 5. Delayed substitutions too long, didn't press for win as much as he could have done. Ref - 5. Let Cardiff players get away with far too much, then punished our players for lesser fouls late on. City fans - 5. Not the most vociferous of turnouts.

Let Cardiff players get away with far too much, then punished our players for lesser fouls late on. Come on fella. He got in where it hurts, headed the ball down and it bounced up to hit the crossbar. The bloke was unfortunate. Had he not got the ball on target or headed it high or wide i'd understand the criticism but you're being a bit harsh for me. The rest of the 90- minutes is a different matter. Similarly for King's second chance. It was a toepoke under considerable pressure and even the suggestion of a foul. He seemed to be stretching to me, presumably because of the tackle and just couldn't get into position to keep it down. Again he got into the melting put to take the chance and I'd not criticise anyone for that. Sadly there were all too few such instances from anyone. City fans - 5. Not the most vociferous of turnouts.
kingfox Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Schmeichel 6 - Nothing to do really, throwing was good today usually get frustrated when he plays it short. Peltier 8 - Last two games he has been fantastic, premiership quality performances Mills 8 - Solid as a rock, settling in now and today proved that he is a good defender Bamba 7 - Few sloppy errors first half, but kept Cardiff at bay Konchesky 7 - Got forward well, consistent again Abe 6 - Mediocre at best Wellens 6 - Too many sideways passes, frustrating Fernandes 5 - Didn't see much of him at all very quiet King 6 - Tried to make things happen but to no prevail Vassell 8 - Worked his socks off and very unlucky Beckford 4 - Moaning all round shitness Schlupp 5 - Few sparks but hardly had a chance Johnson 6 - Looked forward only on for 10 or so mins but looked decent

Thracian Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Schmeichel 7 (Nothing much to do but showed good concentration and exuded the impression of being in complete codntrol). Peltier 7 (Another decent game in a second successive clean sheet in the league). Mills 8 (Man of the Match by a distance with important contributions as defender and attacker. Bamba 7 (Not so noticeable indiviudually but almost demolished Earnshaw with one emphatic challenge in the box and was generally unruffled. Did well not to make his booking incident a sending off by mostly evading a collision. If he'd dived right in the Cardiff player might not have landed yet). Konchesky 6 (Carelessness in losing possession in a daft place might easily hae cost us the match. Not his best game generally. Lacked sufficient urgency and effect). Abe 5.5 (Just didn't make sufficient impact to me. He huffed and puffed but we need more than that).. Wellens 5.5 (Caught in possession trying to dribble and generally seemed laboured. Again he faded second half). King 6.5 (Was on hand to have a stab at two excellent chances. The first, just wide, might well hve been saved anyway and the second he might have gone down for a penalty. But, he's an honest player and simply couldn't keep the ball down under pressure. He'd have been a hero if he had.). Fernandes 5 (Posed no great threat and just seemed a man without a mission. Not sure what he contributes at the best of times other than energy). Beckford 5 (Blatantly body-checked off the ball and seemed to be fouled at every opportunity. Referee singularly disinterested and the lack of service, or of a partner, must have made it a frustrating afternoomn for the guy. In case Sven's in any doubt, striker's need partners around them and people to stretch the defenders. I'm sick of telling him to be honest). Vassell 5.5 (Almost won us the game with his late header but he didn't really show signs of teaming up with Beckford, nor did he create width. Altogether a game to be forgotten for the difference he made). Schlupp 6.5 (Retained the ball well up front but, sadly, as a few late threats were made on their goal our main striker had been taken off. As I've said, we never seem to quite commit ourselves to doing everything we can to win).

Guest ttfn Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 From TV Schmeichel 7 - Never really troubled and did the simple stuff well. Peltier 7.5 - Unlucky not to score with a good header, defended well and his running from deep was occasionally Naughton-esque. Mills 7.5 - Marginally shaded it as man of the match from Peltier, making a couple of great blocks and some decent headers. Not good enough on the ball though. Bamba 7 - Not as domineering as last week, but solid nonetheless. Konchesky 7 - Caught out on one occasion but otherwise solid. Abe 7 - Thought he was the best of our midfield players, showing some good energy to get around the pitch and making some tidy passes when under pressure. Fernandes 5.5 - Not his best game by a long shot. Pretty invisible. Wellens 4 - I thought he had a poor first half, and an even worse second. He actually looked much better when released to the left of the diamond. He's not a holding midfielder. King 6.5 - Got in to some dangerous positions and linked play tidily in midfield. Didn't bring his shooting boots today. Vassell 7 - Classic Vassell performance. Worked himself into the ground but his finishing is terrible. Beckford 5 - The sort of performance I feared we'd see from him, based on everything I've heard and seen in the past. No movement off the ball and didn't seem interested in challenging for it when it did come his way. Petulant throughout. Championship record now reads: Played 13, scored 0. Must do better. subs: Johnson 7.5 - Should have been brought on sooner. Looked like a real menace and his positional sense is 1000 x better than the far more experienced Wellens. Schlupp 5.5 - Didn't really do anything.

lcfc_jme Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Online stream: Kasper: 7. Untroubled, really. Took a couple of high crosses well and quick off his line. Peltier: 7.5. Handful in the air, highly unlucky not to score, defended well (caught out of position a couple of times after bombing forward, mind) and quality going forward. Great performance. Mills: 8. Defensive rock. Headed absolutely everything away, rarely caught out of position and made some great challenges, the most notable being a goal-saving block in the 2nd half. Loved his commando roll as well, beautiful execution. Better distribution as well. Easily his best game for us. Bamba: 7. Again, won everything in the air, almost got into trouble bringing the ball down at times but then that's him. Loved his rage in the 2nd half. Throwing Earnshaw to the ground was a personal highlight. Konchesky: 6. Slightly harsh, but caught out of position quite often, often got embarrassed by McNaughton, gave possession away far too cheaply at times. Tried to get forward well and unlucky not to score with his freekick. Abe: 6. Lots of industry and covered a lot of ground, but as with the majority of our midfield it just didn't happen for him today. At least tried to make things work. King: 6.5. As with Abe, covered a lot of ground, and most of what we did well going forward involved him. Got into 2 goalscoring positions in the game, could and probably should've done better with them, as I'm sure he would've on another day. Would've had a penalty if he'd gone to ground before toe-poking the ball over. Too honest. Fernandes: 5. Worst I've seen him for us, seemed a spectator to everything and was quite off the pace. If I'm honest, he looked a little tired and like he could do with a game or 2 out the side. Wellens: 3. Just why? Seriously useless today. Should've been hauled off at half-time for Johnson or Danns. Pointless performance. Beckford: 3. As with Wellens, did very little. Was almost not worth having him on the pitch, as he seemed too interested in moaning about everything and looking around to actually use his pace to frighten Cardiff's defence. Doesn't seem to understand the game of any of our players yet. Vassell: 6.5. Handful for their defence; they were terrified of his pace and he worked extremely hard for the team. Can't finish for toffee, but satisfied with his display. Needs more composure infront of goal - definitely could've either taken a touch or played in Schlupp before wildly volleying a good chance over. Subs: Schlupp: 5. Has pace to burn but didn't really use it after giving away a freekick the first time he tried. Game did to him what it did to Fernandes - bypassed him and made him look quite poor. Johnson: 7. Superb little cameo, excited for him hitting full fitness. Drove at players, looked to commit defenders and bring others in around him. Could be the spark we need to take us to the next level going forward. Promising.
bettso Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Kasper - Nothing to rate him on Peltier - 7.5 - Good game and getting betts Mills - 8 - More like it Bamba - 7.5 - Good game Konchesky - 7.5 - Great delivery and good shooting. Please take all the free kicks from now on and tell Wellens to **** off Wellens - 6 - Crap delivery and no decent passing to speak of. Once again slowed things down too much Abe - 6 - Didnt waste the ball but did nothing with it either Fernandes - 5 - Did nothing King - 6 - New boots needed. Three decent chances and didnt make the keeper work with any Beckford - 4 - No service so did nothing Daz - 7 - So much energy but wasted 2 good chances
acooling08 Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Kasper, Mills, Peltier looked good. Fernandes, King, Wellens, Beckford looked poor. Everyone else were very average.

sdb Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Kasper, Mills, Peltier looked good. Fernandes, King, Wellens, Beckford looked poor. Everyone else were very average. I'd kinda agree. I'd add Bamba to the good pile. And say the 4 you mention i'd say were below par, but not poor. King and Beckford i'd expect a bit more from though, especially.

Doesn't seem to understand the game of any of our players yet. Bit harsh on JB. He didn't make the most of the one excellent chance he had but the service to him was non-existant - what exactly us he supposed to fo when there was one good cross in the first 70 mins! Thought he needed more protection from rhe ref too as Hudson was all over him 1st half. Agree with most of your other assessments though.
Callabinho Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 As I thought we would loose today I am happy with a point at Cardiff! I didn't think that anybody was terrible today, but admittedly beckford wasn't as dangerous as he should be. But draw your away win your home I wil be perfectly happy on Sunday if we draw on Wednesday and beat Derby!

MGLCFC Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Just back from Cardiff Schmeichel 7 - commanded his area well, little to do Peltier - 8 - developing into an excellent full back Bamba - 7 some silly errors in the first half Mills - 9 - outstanding Konchesky - 7 - faded defensively towards the end - tireless runs down the wing Wellens 5 - why is he playing so deep Fernandes - 5 not at his best today King 6.5 - Some good work first half, - always pops up in goal scoring positions Abe - 7 works well with Peltier on the right and many of our first half attacks started down the right Beckford - 5 no service needs to play with a target man Vassell - 6.5 good work rate, probably easier to score with the header at the end Schlupp - 6 developing and improving each game Johnson - pure class. Not on long enough to warrant a mark, but once he came we dominated the closing stages. Ref - 3 - Far too many late challenges by Cardiff, unpunished,
bald reynard Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 From the telly, by Roger Mellie:- Schmeichel - 7 (looked as confident as ever, apart from the Whittingham shot he fumbled) Peltier - 7 (mainly for the first half - would have got 8 if he carried it on in the second half)) Bamba - 7 (like Peltier, would have had 8 if he hadn't 'lost it' for a period in the second half - after our corner) Mills - 8 (MotM - I didn't think I'd ever say that !) Konchesky - 7 (tried to be the winger we desperately need) Wellens - 6 (would have been 5 if he hadn't started picking out a few decent passes late in the second half) Fernandes - 4 (a liability today) Abe - 5 (mainly anonymous) King - 6 (tried to get forward) Vassell - 6 (for his few attempts on goal - 7 if any had actually tested the keeper) Beckford - 5 (not really his fault, he had no service) Subs: Schlupp - 6 (should have come on earlier) Johnson - 6 (good, but how overweight is he !?) Summary:- Fernandes needs to be dropped and replaced by a wide player (preferably Dyer, otherwise Danns) - he really is too similar to Abe. The defence is starting to look reliable.
