Lloyd Dyer

Dyer has had a good pre-season so far. He has scored about three and played with his usual passion for the club. He also had shirt # 11 and I wouldn't be surprised to see him a regular starter next year.

I just hope people are not warming up to make him the next 'unglamorous' scapegoat because he is one player who does not deserve the criticism.

(Before people start, yes, he could be a better crosser of the ball)

Scored twice today according to Liam Moore's Twitter.

King, Vardy and Nugent the other scorers in a 5-0 win.

Really not surprised by many of the comments made.

I really despair sometimes at the way some of our fans look at some of our players... ie: Without actually looking at our players....

Not me

I think Lloyd is underrated by many and always have done.

I think if he plays ( not sure if Knocky is gonna feature more than Lloyd) he's gonna have a good season.

Then again, under Pearson I can't recollect Lloyd ever having a poor season.

Before anyone mentions... Yes you could argue he's not of sufficient quality either to take us up or to play in the Prem, but I think you could say the same of a number of players in our squad. I don't think he's any worse than anyone else and actually better than some.

Only until Wellens gets back from injury ;)

I don't think anyone hates him, indeed no one ever gets on his back, it's just that he isn't very good.

He can run very quickly but that hasn't proved to be much of an asset for us considering that he cannot cross a ball. At championship level he's set up 5 goals in 3 seasons or once every 20 games. SSL had more assists last season than Lloyd with 3. To give slightly more perspective Tom Kennedy who only got on the pitch 5 times had as many assists.

I know someone who knows Dyer's mum.

She says Lloyd loves the club and does not want to move anywhere. Lloyd even took in my kid's (wife's) autograph book into work about three years ago and got it signed by the whole squad, including Pearson.

He's a good lad!

Being able to 'assist' is based upon the players around you as much as on your own ability. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Last season, our whole midfield made so few assists that it was frankly embarrassing.

Our top player, for assists was actually Nugent.

Dyer played very little under Sven, so there was effectively a third of the season, ish, where he didn't feature. He also played in a team relatively bereft of confidence and with Beckford who was simply not firing in the league.

I can remember a number of times that Dyer fizzed the ball across the box and Jermaine did not execute his finish.

I think Lloyd will benefit greatly playing in a more confident side, attacking with pace and with nippy strikers.

I think he can develop a good partnership with Vardy, for example, because Jamie can basically keep up with him.

Dyer is no world beater, but last season doesn't provide a fair indication of what he can do. The whole squad was out of sorts.

Can't remember who said it (apologies) that Lloyd is more effective away from home, which the stats back up.

Well quite, but Lloyd in 3 years has a grand total of 5 assists. Gallagher (who gets far more stick) has 14, Wellens (the antichrist) 18 and King (the invisible man) 7.

I really don't think the problem is that Lloyd is too quick, the problem is that his technique is very poor.

What I don't understand is when he is far to quick for his full back (derby away) he takes the piss once, we score, then he never gets the ball or starts cutting inside!!

I can only echo what fleckneymike has said, and also, as your point suggests, he's pretty damn thick.

He's likeable in some ways but overall he's well below par at this level.

Dyer is not without his faults or limitations but I think he adds something to the squad. It is not uncommon for pacy wingers to frustrate, especially at this level, and Lloyd is no exception. A good solid squad player at least for me.

Come on Lloyd :scarf:

Fair enough FM... I think Lloyd can still play an important role in a confident side.

We'll have to see mate.

However, it may be that the young French bloke features more than Dyer.

He tries very hard but the league below is his level. Through no fault of his own he was rewarded with a stupidly long contract by Sousa but lets not compound that error by playing him in the team.

Knockaert will definitely be replacing Dyer imo.

Said for weeks Happy, but I may be wrong, don't be at all surprised to see Dyer on the left, Gally on the right in a 4-4-2 on the opening day.

I don't think anything is 'for definite' under Pearson.

For the record, I hope Marshall plays on the right.

Come on NP isn't that daft why buy Knockaert and Marshall if he isn't going to play them? if he puts them on the bench it would be utter stupidity, if Gally and Dyer are starting the man is a fool!

Why is he called Predictable then?

I was quoting Happy Fox....

Pearson has historically been pretty predictable in his team selections so suggesting that Knocky will 'definitely play' is a big shout.

Personally I like him and think Lloyd could shine this season as he has a target man to aim (use the term loosely) his crosses at in futacs. Maybe this combination will win us a fair few games in the last 15 mins off the bench?

He's an athlete attempting to play football.

Wouldn't surprise me to see NFP start with Dyer and Gallagher.

I'm on holiday and won't get to a game until late September, I;m hoping for major changes by then.

If dyer and gally start on the 18th I won't be too bothered. Both are good players when they play well. What I won't do, is boo/be negative about them being in the starting line up until they give me a reason to doubt their place in the team.

You never know, but the manager might just know a little more about their form and probably knows who deserves a starting place over us having only seem 2/3 at most of their pre-season.
