Great servant to the club and imo opinion got to much unfair stick. A model pro too. Shame we never offered him some kind of coaching role. All the best Matt.

MATT OAKLEY has quit Leicester after his contract was ripped up by mutual consent. Former Southampton and Derby midfielder Oakley, 34, leaves the Foxes after more than four years and is now a free agent.

Agree he deserves a send-off for his time as captain.

I can see him pitching up at Exeter now.

Makes it sound so dramatic! Players falling out with the manager, Ripping peoples contracts up (By mutual consent) :giggle: We will have the cameras in our place next ala four year plan.

Maybe this is a way of freeing up some money to bring in a loan signing? He was due to end his contract soon anyway and I imagine he was on decent wages.

So let me get this right

Bruno Berner : 84 appearances, 8 goals - Biggest send off I’ve seen of a city player for years

Matt Oakley : 137 appearances, probably about half of them as club captain, 10 goals - Moaned at for being paid too much

Have a word with yourselves

Can I point out that Beckford spent virtually his entire warm up applauding the Leeds fans who were chanting his name throughout the game? (with a catchy song, I may add)

Nobody booed him because of that.

Matt clapped the fans who, after joining a rival team, still chanted his name.

I'd clap back if I was in Matt's shoes, he was an excellent service to Derby and, although they were shit, he captained them in the PL.

Get a grip, can't believe someone who made over 130 appearances for us (mainly as club captain) can be treated so harshly for merely clapping another set of fans.

It's a shame he's not going to be shown to the crowd like Berner was, but I dearly hope he does when he retires because he's a good man who deserves our credit.

Well done Matt, good luck in the future.

It's not all about appearances and goal, sometimes not even about quality.

If you don't know the difference between a player like Oakley and a player like Berner then you're in the wrong sport.

Don't you remember it was the in thing to do to hate someone even though they did ok for us?

Er I think you've gone a bit OTT there, "virtually the whole warm up"?

I don't think so. They sang his song, he clapped.

Oakley was a leading member of the side that took us into the 3rd division for the first time in our history.

He may have played a role in getting us back up, but the blemish still remains. Berner doesn't carry that stigma.
