Babylon Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 Selling beckford could prove to be a costly mistake and could well cost us promotion aswell I for one think he's one of the best strikers we've had at our club for alot of seasons I did do not understand comments like this, I really don't. He's never scored more than 9 league goals outside league one? He was joint 37th top scorer in the league way below Nugent and ex player Fryatt. It's not even like he put in great performances but was just missing goals, he was missing so much else as well.
GREG LCFC Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 Ok, but you claimed that Nigel said Beckford was his number one striker, fact. So sorry if I don't find what you say all that easy to believe. Maybe he's looking for a 'bum licker'? If you close your eyes and imagine nigee poos hairy oval your got a job beats sitting on here all day
marko Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 Probably based on the fact we would have one decent striker at the club. Waghorn and Futacs won't provide the goods. As much as I rate Vardy and said how good he will become... It'll take time and I very much doubt it will be instant. Schlupp.. again will take time. For people who think selling Beckford is good, think again!! Yet in his first season he managed to score 25% more league goals than Beckford. He's hardly had a decent run at it since, so to write him off is fickle!
Salieri Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 The big news is that Matt Jones is finally fit and will play central midfield vs Burton. But what about Eadie?

Unless we get a hell of a lot of 1-0 wins which is very unlikely.
The People's Hero Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 But what about Eadie? The word on the street is that Eadie is finished, my friend.
GREG LCFC Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 marshall will chip in with a few this season - also gally can score them free kicks, penos,

(first season) Waghorn 5 league goals in 12 starts ( second season) Is Beckfords not the worst strike rate of the lot?

Unless we get a hell of a lot of 1-0 wins which is very unlikely. Why not?! We prospered with an attack consisting of Fryatt, Waghorn and Howard in NP's first season in the Championship and I'd argue an attack of Nugent, Waghorn, Futacs and Vardy is stronger than the former. As for the 1-0's, I fail to see your point. Of our 21 wins in the Championship in Np's first season, only 8 were 1-0 and last season we had a massive one 1-0 win out of 11 league games.
Ashley Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 We need Beckford. He will score goals. Nugent and Beckford upfront started to form a partnership last season until Nugent got shipped out wide. Arguably the best forward line in the League behind Doyle and Fletcher. I hope I'm wrong about Futacs but what I've seen of him so far is very little same goes for Waghorn I'll return to this though after half way through the season. One last point, the thing is with this forum people would rather have a Iain Hume type player than a Beckford/Yakubu type player. Who gives a shit if Yakubu was lazy? He scored goals and would of score more should we have signed him. Goals win games and if it gets us to where we want to be(the premier league) then so be it.

I personally think putting Yakubu and Beckford in the same category is very generous to Beckford. Yakubu's lack of work rate was made up by an amazing knack of scoring goals, Beckford's lack of attributes could be forgiven if he had the goalscoring record yet he actually hit less in nearly a full season in the league than Yakubu did in a loan that started in mid-January.

(first season) Waghorn 5 league goals in 12 starts ( second season) Is Beckfords not the worst strike rate of the lot? On that basis. But it's an unfair judgement. Panyiotou is better than all of these strikers on that basis due to his 100% strike rate last season.

See you state that we need to score goals and it's been pointed out that Beckford has the worst strike rate of our strikers, and we have other strikers who've scored more goals than Beckford in the Championship yet you dismiss them out of hand.

So I ask again, why only a few weeks ago did you say you would be happy to keep him and to give him another go? Now that it may be that Pearson wants rid, you're whole demeanour towards the player appears to have changed? I know you've always had your doubts about Beckford, so have I, but why the u turn on what you seemed to be feeling only a short time ago?

I'm pretty sure he said he would be happy either way, if he is moved on then he's ok with it because he didn't do enough to prove himself last year, if he stays he's ok with it because he saw some flashes of brilliance (eg. Boro), doesn't mean he thinks Beckford is any better than our other strikers. At least that's how I interpreted it anyway. Think you're being a bit hostile to Babylon TBH. Someone quote me.

It flatters Beckford to compare him to Yakubu. You can get away with being lazy if you net as many as Yakubu does. When you say Beckford will score goals, what are you basing that on? 9 goals in 33 starts is pretty pathetic from a poacher type striker. He was meant to be our main source of goals, he offers little else, and his wages are ridiculous for a Championship club. Don't you think he should have been among the top scorers in the division? If not, why not? I'd say it's more likely to be a costly mistake to keep hold of him, considering how much we could strengthen the squad after selling him. I think JB gets an easy ride from the fans compared to most players, and I haven't got a clue as to why. What do people see that I don't?
Bluetintedspecs Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 can't be bothered to trawl through the countless pages since yesterday, has anyone finally twigged or admitted the two lovable cads were on a wind up? and are the anal abusives still bleating about it? If so come on guys Womens beach Volleybal and Gymnastics are on tomorrow lighten up and release some tension!

Beckford needs service someone of a Koren type player to play them balls in between the full back and centre half or both centre halfs. At this moment in time we haven't got that. Should Beckford move on, or stay I would live him to prove his haters wrong on this forum as the saying goes 'if your face doesn't fit then...' and that's Beckford and a majority of this forum. I do agree his wages are high and he should be on less.
21st Century Fox Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 We aren't going to play to Beckford's strengths, he needs decent service from the midfield to allow him to play off the shoulders of defenders. No doubt if he moves on someone like Warnock would get the best of him. While he's here he's a square peg in a round hole, albeit a very competent square peg when utilised properly. It could end up being a DJ Campbell situation again but it's NP's reputation on the line, so if he believes he can accomplish the job without him, so be it.

Or it did only 48 hours ago when an overwhelming majority of posters on the subject claimed he should stay and that he was 'great'. Something like 78% of people voting on the poll in fact. Now it seems like he might be off.... Hmmmm you draw your own conclusions.

He will score goals here or where else he goes and no doubt he'll score more than our top goal scorer next season...

Raw Dykes Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 Yes he does now.... I hope that's not aimed at me Col. I haven't changed my mind about him at all.
Mark_w Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 I hope that's not aimed at me Col. I haven't changed my mind about him at all. I haven't seen anything to suggest anyone's opinion of Beckford has changed as a result of FO's tweet.
Guest Col city fan Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 I hope that's not aimed at me Col. I haven't changed my mind about him at all. It's not aimed at anybody specifically mate. Your views on the player have always been clear. It's a general observation regarding how one day the majority can be for a player, then 48 hours later the tide seems to suddenly be turning. As Ashley felt earlier with his comment 'his face don't fit'. Why did you think it was aimed at you? You aren't really a closet Beckford fan are you?
