I still feel like it's a massive mistake though. It doesn't matter how good it is, it will always be viewed negatively next to the original based off nothing but nostalgia.

It would have been much smarter to base the show around the cursed child story and focus on the relationship between James Potter and Scorpius Malfoy. You would have the origional material to base the plot around but there is no where near the same amount of it so you would also have artistic freedom to pad it out how you want. You would also have a far greater margin for error as people aren't so attached to it and would be more forgiving.

This is just a license to print money.

Most Potter nuts hate Cursed Child though as it goes against a lot of canon from the books about time travel.

There's no interest for a Cursed Child series or film because that story goes completely against everything from the original books.

But i've always thought there's so much room for a series regarding the rise and fall of Voldemort culminating in him trying and failing to kill Harry. Could show so much about the marauders, the relationship between Lilly and James, the original order of the phoenix, the death eaters, the Longbottoms etc.

Always thought there was room for something like that. While i'm not at all disapointed with them producing a series about the original books because there is so much that was originally untold, I would have liked something new.

Agreed. There were plenty of avenues they could have gone down instead of remaking everything.

Coming out at Christmas! I honestly thought it would later next year

Cannot wait for this, Hogwarts looks incredible and I love the vibes from it already

Been done, would have sooner seen a cursed child project and follow on series to that.

They did try it with Fantastic Beasts but took it in the wrong direction I think trying to spin the Dumbledore and Grindelwald stuff into it, the last film’s box office was really poor for the franchise

I expect if the first season or two get the viewing figures they are likely expecting, probably the biggest ever for HBO, then we will see more spin offs start being developed (just hopefully not Cursed Child, its dreadful)

It's annoying that the Fantastic Beasts series hasn't concluded the story, even if it was a bit odd to shoehorn the whole Dumbledore family story in it.

The Rowling backlash didn't help but you'd think they'd want to finish the storyline.

Generally think the casting looks ok for the new Harry Potter series, however for some reason I cant get on board with Nick Frost as Hagrid. Hopefully my mind is changed when I actually watch it

Its not impossible for warner brothers to still make more movies to rival this, I did read somewhere HBO may have the rights but Warner Brothers still have the rights too so it could be a case where two different harry potter projects are going to battle it out. Cursed Child story may happen but I think there waiting to get everyone onboard (that's still alive) Rupert Grint seems open to it, whilst Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe are like trying distance themselves and do other projects as much as possible. Tom Felton seems very much interested seeing as he's doing the broadway show.

Just channel surfing and noticed two entirely different channels on Freeview, 33 5Action and 35 Great TV are showing the same film, The Patriot starring Mel Gibson. One started at 22:05, the other a little earlier at 21:57.

The one on Great TV has a 15 min longer running time - or more adverts.

Bound to happen I guess, but so much for more channels = more choice.

Sounds like just a coincidence.

Terrible writing and bad casting killed that series off. It seemed to latch on to all of JK Rowlings worst ideas and didn't have any real continuity.

The best part of all three films was the same character that was played by three different actors (all wildly different from each other). Jonny Depp would have been a phenomenal Grindelwald and deserved to have that role properly in a much darker environment. The opening scenes of The Crimes of Grindelwald goes against any other scene from the Harry Potter 'universe'. It was a brilliant opening to a shite film.

There was room for a fun story about magical animals and a darker story about the rise of Grindelwald. I don't think they needed to combine the two.

Definitely agree with that. They muddled the two up and the tone was all over the place as you alluded to.

Gave SNL another go on Saturday.

Some sketches were good, and after a slow start (potato rocks.....?) Jamie Dornan grew into it.

The 2 newscasters are terrible.

But that kind of fits with the view of that area considering its a fossil fuel economy - you wouldn't expect them to say Climate Change is real, it wouldn't fit with the programme. I believe Climate change is real but I'll disassociate when watching a made up drama. I'd stick with it, it's a great 2 series.

I've nearly finished this and really enjoyed it. Just checked and it's been renewed for a 3rd season, should be out in November this year

Yep I think it's really underrated, S2 better than S1 so hoping for an all out S3!

I've actually quite enjoyed it.

Obviously it's a sketch show so there are hits and misses but with the lack of sketch comedy on TV at the minute I'm pleased to get some more of it especially with new talent.

The Jools Holland -Time Man sketch for some reason really tickled me.

Interesting reading online that the north American audience seem to think its really quite good.

Really disappointed  with the 3rd series of night Agent on Netflix.

First couple were exciting and a thrill to watch but this one is just being lagged out so much.

Could have done it in 4 episodes, we are now on the last one which is 8.

Will give the next series a miss.

Rose in it is mega for though!!

She was only in S1 and S2? One of the Lioness characters was in S3

I've been watching SNL off and on here since the 80's and it's always just been 'okay'.

The first era I remember was the Mike Myers years with Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, etc and all I heard from older guys was that it wasn't as good as the early days with John Belushi and Eddie Murphy.

Then we had the Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig years and it made me miss the previous cast.

And that really sums up SNL. Its always remembered for being better/funnier than it was at that actual time.

The first two UK shows are just like the US version being hit and miss.

Definitely off to a great start musically.

When you know the original with Bobby De Niro, that's set the bar. But who knows? Javier Bardem might surpass him:

The original was with Robert Mitchum.
