Guest MattP Posted 16 September 2014 Posted 16 September 2014 We should always be looking to attract the brightest and best from any country, Scotland should be no different to that. What about the non-wealthy, non-bright people in Scotland? What about them?, I've long argued for our immigration policy to reflect that of Canada or Australia where we try to attract people who can actually do and offer something the country needs, we haven't really got to the stage where we can't attract clever ambitious people to the country because some people feel sorry and guilt for the dippy ones who can't come in have they? If we have we may as well just go to an open border policy.
Rincewind Posted 17 September 2014 Posted 17 September 2014 Alf they'll get as far as Carlisle and turn back.
WhatsHisName Posted 17 September 2014 Posted 17 September 2014 If Nottingham wanted to gain independence, I would support their cause, but not Scotland and it will not happen. If they win independence would there be a border separating us ?
Guest Posted 17 September 2014 Posted 17 September 2014 Nah they don't dress that well. That's Rincey in his younger days.
Monk Posted 17 September 2014 Posted 17 September 2014 I am looking forward to walking around Edinburgh tomorrow after I have voted and watching media panic and I am sure there will be a few idiots kicking off somewhere in town. Channel 4 was in Haddington just round the corner from me last night and glad to say it is a predominantly NO town.

surrifox Posted 17 September 2014 Posted 17 September 2014 Be fun to see the look on Sammond's face when they lose. wouldn't bother me if I never looked at the gurning, lying, shitebag's face ever again
WhatsHisName Posted 17 September 2014 Posted 17 September 2014 If they win independence thenwe should stop them getting Eastender and Coronation Street, and they will soon be begging to allowed to join the UK. And I hope we have some decent borders separating us.

Certainly very believable as well as too many stories of this seem to coming out of the 'Yes' camp. Tha nastiness that has come out of this whole thing should worry a lot of people in Scotland, whatever the vote on Thursday it's clear we are now going to have a very divided nation afterwards, a generation of people that will forever be asking 'Did you vote Yes/No?' to their friends, work colleagues and neighbours and one side blaming the other whichever way the result goes for whatever the consequences come of it, some big cracks will have formed that could take a very long time to heal.

Grandad. Posted 17 September 2014 Posted 17 September 2014 Let the bastards have their own country, soon come running.. Doubt we will ever have a Labour government in this country again now.
Guest Posted 17 September 2014 Posted 17 September 2014 Let the bastards have their own country, soon come running.. Doubt we will ever have a Labour government in this country again now. Surely having another Labour government is reliant on more people voting for them than the other parties. It's only unlikely if Labour do not represent the most voters.

I have little doubt that what he says about the YES team is true but it doesn't take away from the fact that these people want to fight over what is right in Scotland as opposed to fighting over what is right in the UK. They have more chance of getting their ideals across in Scotland alone than they do in the UK. Basically I think the article is talking irrelevance.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 17 September 2014 Posted 17 September 2014 I am half English and half Scottish, so I have a foot in both camps. Personally, I do not want Scotland to be independent, as this will have serious repercussions, on both countries, and will be extremely costly to both. We need to stay together for the future stability of our nations.
leicsmac Posted 17 September 2014 Posted 17 September 2014 As regards the political constituency structure, surely if the result tomorrow is 'Yes' the constituencies in England and Wales will be shifted in the future to represent the change in population in varying areas?
Grandad. Posted 17 September 2014 Posted 17 September 2014 If it is yes and the clowns do leave, I wouldn't let any of them use English or Welsh Uni's without actually funding their Uni life.
Leicesterpool Posted 17 September 2014 Posted 17 September 2014 I think this is a huge con for our government, they probably don't really want to go independent there probably using this just for a good excuse to get more power. It's a win, win situation for them. It a shambles it's even come to this well done Cameron It will be interesting to see reaction to the "Yes" celebrities campaigners when they lose, I somehow don't imagine the ones who live abroad will be in any hurry to return to Britain.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 17 September 2014 Posted 17 September 2014 You hear so many arguments about whether Scots will or won't be better off under one or the other, but I wonder how many of them worry about that much and instead just want the chance to actually be in charge of their own destiny. It might turn out shit, but at least its their own shit and their responsibility to make it better

It might turn out shit, but at least its their own shit and their responsibility to make it better I think you're right, but I wonder how many of those think that they will have the safety of the union to fall back on. They won't lose British citizenship in the event of a yes vote so if it all goes wrong they have the safety net of the UK, south of the border.

It might turn out shit, but at least its their own shit and their responsibility to make it better But they are in charge of their own destiny, they get a vote the same as the rest of us. They're Brits like everyone else in 2014. It's not like they're the Irish in 1920, they're not being beaten or abused or oppressed by an occupying ruling class. They're an equal member in a union that subsidises their prescriptions, education, let's them make their own laws and gives them stacks of cash every year to run things. They're literally like the spoiled kids of wealthy middle class parents getting all rebellious because they're not allowed to have a shit tattoo and leave their room a mess. They've got it spectacularly good and the only thing they don't like is their central government is the other end of an island in a country that conquered them hundreds of years ago. If the Welsh and the Cornish can be over it by now I'm pretty sure the Sweaties can be too. They've had it better than the rest of the celtic nations for the last few centuries as it is.

It might turn out shit, but at least its their own shit and their responsibility to make it better Agreed but I hope they don't want to come crawling back when that destiny that is their own turns into a financial nightmare ( which it will ) and then expect us to take them back and sort out the shit that their misguided patriotism has landed them in. When it all goes tits up you won't see Salmon and his Jimmy Krankie side kick for dust or they will inevitably blame us for it going to rat shit. Let then vote yes but if they do it must be a total break even when they get in the shit we must say no you made your bed lie on it.
