Steven Posted 30 June 2012 Posted 30 June 2012 I was made redundant in April but have been offered a job today but the working hours include a saturday shift from 8.00 till 16.30 can i really give up my season ticket of 18 years for a job? Please help me with my dilema. You have lots of other offers on the go?
Rincewind Posted 30 June 2012 Posted 30 June 2012 Take it and keep looking. Jobs don't come up very often. Unless you are a specialist in something.
kyleolly Posted 30 June 2012 Author Posted 30 June 2012 Had a few interviews but this is the only concrete offer what makes it worse is it's situated down the road from the K.P i don't think i could cope
ozleicester Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 Take job, keep looking for better option. Keep in mind, so many games are NOT at 3pm saturdays now... youll only miss a few.
Guest MattP Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 Take the job. Far more important things in life than watching a load of overpaid footballers on a Saturday who most of the time leave you disappointed anyway.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 Watching football is a money costing hobby A job is a money paying necessity I'd feel exactly the same as you in your situation, especially the first time you worked on a Leicester matchday. But supporting Leicester doesn't pay the bills, and that has to be your priority.
Matt Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 I don't know what kind of job it is, I don't know what kind of hours the place is open, e.t.c, but would it be possible to tell them you have a season ticket and you want to accept the job, therefore you would work 8am to 12.30pm and do the 4 hours you miss out on during the week so you stay 1 hour later at night in the week? Or even go in early on a Saturday? Like I said don't know what job it is or hours the places is open, the place may open and shut at a certain time so you would be able to do the extra hours at another time but it's an idea if the place does open/shut earlier and later.
Rincewind Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 Been out of work a year so had a whole season that I could have seen City first time in years. But could not afford the ST. Looking for work now maybe part time and I would prefer to work at the weekend giving me the week free. Would be nice to have the weekend free for football but as others have said its not the most most important thing in life. Home matches are every fortnight usually could you make an arrangement for a certain number of key matches? Pick say 10 games as a compromise. If you say you want to see every game they may think you are not bothered about the job or take sickies.. They may also not be a City fan. A Forest or Derby supporter even. Besides at my age watching City every week would not be good for my stress levels and ticker.
davieG Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 Surely your dilemma is do I need a job or not? If you do need a job then why are you asking about the football? If you don't need a job then it's a personal choice.
pSinatra Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 There are thousands of jobs.........but there's only one Leicester City!! I know what I would do........take the job!!!
Bluefoxtim Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 Like Matt said, see if it's possible to switch hours? When I worked Saturdays, I did 8am-12pm and made up the other time during the week. Meant I could go to every home and a few of the local away games.
Jon the Hat Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 Unless you dont need the money then surely this is not even a question?
Bellend Sebastian Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 I keep asking my employer for extra hours on a Saturday so I don't have to go to the KP but they're just not having it
Fox92 Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 I don't know what's it like living in a City, but if you're given a chance then I suggest looking at it, at the least. You never know, once you have worked a couple of months and got your feet 'under the table', you might be able to switch hours? I know the pain of working on a Saturday though; I used to work at Sainsbury's. It is horrible deciding between a 'hobby' and the job in hand.
Finchy Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 If you take the job you are a plastic! You have to live with that.
MikeyT Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 I'm a bit shocked you're even asking to be honest. It's a job, It's money. It enables you to live. Take the bloody thing.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 Only three Saturday games in August, then Blackpool at home is a tea time kick off which you could make, before there is an international break, and the next home game isnt till the 22nd September (Saturday game i mean) Do byt the time that time comes you might have been in the job a month or two and they give you a bit more flexibility. Worth a shot. I'm lucky that despite working in retail I am yet to miss a Saturday game i have planned to go to in 9 months whilst working there. Usuaully give the manager a list every months of a few dates i cant work and he is very good in letting me have em off. Or I ask to work 6am-10am/12pm so still have time to go from here to City. Thnakfully he didnt question why the August list i have just given him was a lbit longer than June and July!
foxfanazer Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 Take job, keep looking for better option. Keep in mind, so many games are NOT at 3pm saturdays now... youll only miss a few. This! Take the job to get some money come in, carry on searching for a job and your motivation to find a new job will be to see Leicester play
Guest Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 Take the job and then throw a sickie every satdi afternoon when there's a home game
Rincewind Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 This might sound silly but if I get some sort of job the thing I would prefer over going football is a holiday. I know I have been sat down doing bugger all as a scrounger for 12 months but with the pressure off looking for work I'll be able to relax and going away I would not be worrying about enjoying it too much. I would like though to get to some matches next season. Bills come before seeing Wellens the Magnifico though. (joke)
Asha Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 Yeah, definitely take it man. As has been said, there'll be so many games moved that there's no point looking at all the Saturday games you're gonna miss. There's lots of Tuesdays too. I'd guess that only a third of our home games this season will actually be on Saturday at 3pm.
Bert Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 There's thousands of people out of work that would kill for a job, any job at the minute. I'd say take it....
