According to Skysports Gerrards going to Huddersfielld

Yeah, SSN reported this afternoon he was having a medical.

Of course it may have been NP who has switched targets rather than Gerrard turning us down. I wonder if he is tempted to go for Ayala if he is available...

I see that Forest are now unlikely to get Ayala. According to the Nottingham evening paper today, Ayala doesn't want to commit to another loan (having been loaned to Hull & Derby) - and is looking for a permanent transfer (which is surprising, 'cos I thought Norwich would only consider a loan for him). If that's the case, a bid (of less than the £800k Norwich paid for him) MIGHT secure the deal. Nige might be keen, given his liking for the guy. Of course, Ayala pulling out of the Forest loan, could be because he wants to come to us (on loan or permanently) !

Welcome to Daniel Ayala who has become our sixth signing of the summer, on a season-long loan from Norwich

Dyer, Gallagher, Wellens, King. Waghorn. I wouldn't have signed Morgan but we're stuck with him as captain and I'm not convinced about Konchesky.

Wellens is injured so he's going nowhere.

If we got rid of Dyer and Gallagher to buy a centre half you'd have only Marshall and the new bloke as wingers. So you can't sell them unless you are also going to buy a replacement, which you couldn't afford as you want the money for a CB.

You can't sell King as that will only leave you with 3 fit CM's.

Which leaves Waghorn. Firstly you need a buyer (who would want to buy such a shit players?) And you are hardly likely to get a huge fee for them even if someone will take them. So no money there to get this great centre back.

Your new centre back needs a partner, so the purchase of Morgan was needed otherwise your new signing would be playing on his own.

The players need replacing, whether it be loans or buying players. They ain't good enough and I'm sure selling Dyer and Gallagher and bringing in an exciting young talent on loan would work out cheaper. That can apply to central defence and central midfield as well, what's the point hanging onto King when one thing Pearson has proved in the past is that he can use the loan market well? (he got us Cleverley and Davies in league one, Spearing the following season).

And we can sell King because the 3 other CM's are all too similar, we need something different, certainly not the anonymous one.

Hang on you were talking about selling them to buy a CB, now you are just on about replacing them. You can't have it both ways.

We're on a budget, to get one great player might mean getting rid of 2/3/4 squad players. Whilst I agree with your general idea of only buying better than we have already. Sometimes you can't do that within your budget. And at times like that it means getting people like Gerrard.

Loans are fine, but I disagree they work out cheaper. Maybe short term but long term you are paying out lots in wages and loan fees and have no asset for it. Rather like renting a house instead of paying the mortgage. You can get out if it's not what you thought it was, but come the end you'll not own your own home.

Yes we can sell king. But the point was it leaves 3 fit CM's, you can't buy a CM as you were on about selling him to buy this great centre back.

I really don't think that selling King would be a good option. He is quality, and will prove it this year. It's been said so many times, but there are some proper fickle Leicester fans.

There are fickle fans at every club. But for me (my personal opinion of course), King isn't quality. He's another average Championship midfielder at the minute. He has scored some important goals for us, but his overall attributes arn't good enough for me; he is easily knocked off of the ball and often looks tired very quick. Still think we could do better, and my preffered central midfield partneship wouldn't include King at this moment in time.

Transfers are a lot more complicated than this. You have multiple factors to consider. You sell Gallagher you upset team morale for example. You sell Dyer you show no respect for honest workers. Clubs can't just replace at will, there's a budget and players have contracts (and settled families too).

Too many folk at this time of year think signing a player is like football manager.

Same here...

You aren't fickle mate.

Just a fan giving his opinion on a player.

Same as many have done over the past few days on Peltier.

My comment wasn't aimed specifically at you, I suppose my point it as you've acknowledged in your post is that he has scored important goals.

My point is however, that as soon as he stops scoring, and has a poor season - this doesn't mean he is instantly an average player. I'm sure it wasnt by fluke that he was regarded as one of our best players.

I just think selling him isn't the answer, as when Kingy is on form he is quality.

Gerrard signing for Huddersfield?

It certainly looks that way.

I know it wasn't aimed at me! What I was getting at is that I never rated him as high as other fans, even when he was scoring most weaks. Remember, he's had an injury and the whole team had a poor season. I know where you coming from, but this hasn't changed my opinion of him.

Not sure why this is in this thread but...

I like King both as a bloke and as a player.

I've met him a couple of times and his head is well screwed on. He has finesse, he has that special knack of timing his runs into the box beautifully and he has a nice pass.

When on form, King actually runs a game, almost invisibly, much the same as Garry Parker used to under MON.

However, King is only useful in those games where we are controlling the play. Then he has time to orchestrate from the middle of the park.

Where he is not useful is in those games where the team is on the backfoot, being overrun in midfield and the time to set himself on the ball has gone.

He is not slow, but neither is he particular quick. He is slight and easily bundled off the ball. Finally, I've seen it in many games, his engine runs out before other players.

We play Blackburn away within the first few games and their midfield will most likely be Murphy and Etuhu. For me, this is a strong midfield at Championship level.

In a game such as this, I would not even consider playing Andy King. He will, IMO, simply be muscled out of the game, thus rendering our midfield stamping no authority.

Its still the midfield, for me, where my concerns mostly lie with this team.

King a quality player?

I would say yes, but contingent entirely on the opposition we are playing and the nature of the game being played.

According to Skysports, Forest are also interested in signing Elliott Ward from Norwich (though I don't know if that was planned in case they didn't get Ayala). IF they don't want him, or don't get him, I would say he'd be a good cover for an injured SSL (I saw him at Cov and he was pretty good). Played alongside Whitbread a few times for the Canaries last season I think (just how many Centre Backs do they have ?!).
