Opinions of Peterborough United

I'm sure we had a similar thread about this time last season relating to Coventry?

I'll say now what I said then... I don't give a flying toss what Peterborough fans think of Leicester City. All I'm bothered about is beating them on Saturday and starting the season off well.

All this who is the bigger and better club stuff has been going on forever and will never be resolved. We think we are better, the other clubs don't agree.

What I don't want is to go out on Saturday and not win. Anything else don't bother me. Let them think what they want to.

I think some of the comments in this thread are terrible. As a previous poster has said we are starting to sound like Forest & Leeds fans.

Peterborough always seem to put up a decent battle. Always goals in the games the play in, shite defence, below average/average attack but a game will normally end up 2-1, 4-3 etc.

I don't class them as our rivals however for how close Peterborough is to Leicester they've hardly ever brought numbers here.

We are not a big club but we are far from tinpot! Are you deliberately contoversial and anal to get attention or do you actually support another club? The only thing I care about other clubs is beating them when we play them.

The definition of a tinpot X is something or someone second rate who has delusions about their own importance.

Look at some of the views posted on here and tell me we don't act like a tinpot club.

Tell me you weren't dying inside at Cov away last season as a chorus of 'we're buying the league' rang around.

I have no problem with us being second rate in terms of league and success. All I ask is that we give a good account of ourselves.

I do have a problem with people who place importance in attendance figures, size and state of grounds, who think standing in a seating area makes them a real fan, who think SoccerAM is representative of football culture, who sing flat pack ikea songs, who think we belong or deserve to be in a certain league, spend more time singing songs about the opposition rather than about themselves, who think it actually matters at all if we're bigger than another club. These traits aren't unique to Leicester or more prevalent at Leicester they are merely part of the white noise of football, but to me they are things I cannot fathom.

Why, because we've said we're a bigger club than Peterborough and think it's laughable they consider it a rivalry? Christ almighty get off your high horse.

It's a Leicester forum and even if people do want to take the piss out of another club I don't see the problem. It's marginally more interesting than discussing whether Beckford's cup goals count.

You even mention the 'we're buying the league' song as if it's out of the ordinary for football fans to sing songs based around misplaced and premature arrogance. Check the every clubs songbook, about 90% of football chants are of this ilk. And that's got nothing to do with soccer am. Do you cringe whenever we sing 'we're by far the greatest team the world has ever seen' as well? '1-0 up and you fvcked it up (with 30 minutes to go)'?

I place importance on attendance figures because that's actually something the fans can control, it can be a source of pride whereas it's not our fault if we've got a crap team. Plus I know it's far more enjoyable being in a fullish stadium than an empty one, and most fans would agree, so why not brag about how it's better to support Leicester than Coventry? It's also a decent indicator of a clubs potential in the long run, the last result can't always be the be all and end all.

For someone who doesn't place any importance on a club's size you seem to be quite upset poor little Peterborough have been getting some stick.

Would you mind awfully reading my post in its entirety before replying. I hoped that when I wrote 'These traits aren't unique to Leicester or more prevalent at Leicester they are merely part of the white noise of football' that I was making it clear that I don't believe we are any different.

This thread began as a young fan asking what Leicester supporters thought of Peterborough so he could write a piece for his blog, you and many others simply replied 'tinpot'. We're about to spend our fourth season out of 5 in the same league as that 'tinpot' outfit.

I've not read the word tinpot so many times since INSERT CLEVER REFERENCE TO TEA HERE

I like the London Road ground. Its going to be a real shame when the terraces go, as it's one of the last "old fashioned" grounds in the upper leagues.

The team themselves play tidy football and merit their place in the Championship. Certainly a bit of a bogey team for us too, though that doesn't neccesarily make them "rivals." I am normally pleased when we beat them though, since despite not being that "highly rated" as championship teams go, thanks to our track record against them, I never go into a match against the Posh expecting 3 points.

The city of Polskaborough Peterborough itself is a dive.

So Derby fans can call us tinpot?

As ever, no game will be easy this season, but with our quality, we should beat these at home and by a couple of goals.

I personally think Peterborough will do well to avoid the bottom 3 this year

Famous last words and all that.

What I want to see is firstly players winning their individual battles, then teamwork and then some well planned and executed set pieces.

That area looked decent from the highlights of the Sunderland game

Agreed!

This is one thing missing too often last season but im liking the squad changes we've made and think they will certainly improve us in this area

A really lucky team , never known such a lucky team.

Have/had the most voerrated players ever. I.e McLean, SMS, Boyd, Taylor, Tomlin, Lewis, etc. No better than the club they all play for now but people seem to overrate them so much.

Tin pot which has already been said is correct.

They think they are bigger than they are. Their fans mostly ones my age only started supporting them since the double promotion, and still even now state they support two teams, Posh and United, etc.

Posted

We should start a new "We're great, but so are you" chant so that opposition are not offended.

For what is worth I am afraid we are tin pot also in the eyes of other fans, does that really bother people? I personally loved being tin pot in the Premier League and being the underdog is great.

This thread is very embarrassing.......

It could get even more embarrassing if Peterboro' turn up on saturday, put 9 men behind the ball, frustrate the hell out of us then nick the only goal on the break.......... :(

Got a few mates who support boro and they think they will struggle this season. This fixture always fills me with fear for some reason and the 1st game can always be tough.

oh and this

Not a bad club I guess.. Can't see them ever making top flight but still a team not to be underestimated.

Didn't realise they considered us rivals until 2 years ago.

Peterborough and sitting behind the ball don't go together!

I live about ten miles from pboro and fully agree with some of the things pboro fox says especially the point where a lot of fans support posh and a premier league team and switch teams whenever it suits them.they have a ground that is poor at best and even they are always looking to relocate so they know how bad it is,to be honest tho if anyone was going to pick an opening fixture posh at home is the perfect start just need everyone to get behind Nigel and the lads and let the rollercoaster ride that is a Leicester City season begin!!

We shall see.....

A fair few of the lower placed teams did it to us last season to great effect. We took just 1 point from our games with them last season.......

Remember, we took just 15 points out of 48 against the teams who finished in the bottom 8, including Peterboro'. And 6 of those points came against Coventry in 2 highly charged local derbies.

So going on last season, Peterboro' are exactly the kind of side to turn us over.......... :(

It's nice to see you've retained that optimistic outlook for the start of this season Dave mi ol mate.

We will win on Saturday.. 3-1 to the City!!!

To be honest they had a pretty crap second half of the season last year and could easily be relegation candidates.
