I am Rod Hull Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 ffs! it's Westley! He`s ours, we`ll call him what we want
ScouseFox Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 Our best centre back by a distance. Not sure how anyone can think otherwise. As for people asking for Ashley Cole to go, are you mental? He's head and shoulders above any other left back in the world.
Jimothy Posted 23 September 2012 Author Posted 23 September 2012 Just because he was found not guilty in law it does not mean that he was not guilty of breaking any FA rules, particularly with a different (lower) burden of proof. Can easily see him ending up with a 5+ game ban. I can see why that might be that case had he been up in court for murder or assault and found innocent, the FA could say other action surrounding those charges brought the game into disrepute. You know putting yourself in a situation where you can be charged with assault or murder. But for something that's said, he either did or didn't. I don't see how the FA could have a lower burden of proof on this. He either intentionally racially abused Ferdinand or he didn't.
Corky Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 Was going to happen someday, Cahill, Lescott and Jagielka seem primed to take over permanently. Maybe a possible return for Rio, or has too much happened?
Bert Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 Was going to happen someday, Cahill, Lescott and Jagielka seem primed to take over permanently. Maybe a possible return for Rio, or has too much happened? Yet none of the three mentioned are as good as Terry. Big loss, IMO.

Nobody will ever know the truth except Terry, but it's possible that the FA don't believe him, just as the magistrate in his court case couldn't be sure.
AyewJoking Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 Maybe he thought the FA would leave him alone if he retired. He's sitting anxiously by the phone right now.
Corky Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 Yet none of the three mentioned are as good as Terry. Big loss, IMO. Well they aren't yet, but we'll see in the next couple of years. I'm surprised he's gone given the support Hodgson has provided.
Richard Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 Committed but I've thought he's been on the downfall for a while now. Ashley Cole best left back in the world?
ScouseFox Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 Committed but I've thought he's been on the downfall for a while now. Ashley Cole best left back in the world? Yep. Easily.
Bert Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 Well they aren't yet, but we'll see in the next couple of years. I'm surprised he's gone given the support Hodgson has provided. It's no good saying they will be good in a few years. We've a massive game coming up away in Poland in a few weeks.
marty78 Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 Ashley Cole best left back in the world? 2nd best behind Schlupp. He's fvcking awesome though and three times the player Glen Johnson will ever be at RB. As for Terry you have to ask whether he would of been up to the task in Brazil should we get there? I think probably not.
Charl91 Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 Terry is too slow now, not nearly the player he was. He's also a horrible excuse for a human being. Good riddance I say.
ScouseFox Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 As for everyone saying he "used to be good", he was easily our best centre back at the Euros, and one of the better ones in the tournament as he guided our defence to 2 clean sheets from 4 as well as a great defensive performance against the French. He's still easily good enough for International football. Shame.

He's still easily good enough for International football. Shame. Yes - but only because the way we played, with everyone behind the ball and in our own half, suited his own style. It meant he wasn't exposed by his severe lack of pace. However we played horrible horrible football in that tournament. When John Terry has to actually go further then the 6 yard box then his sloth-like speed leaves him vulnerable. Eg. World Cup 2010.
kingfox Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 Best all round for England, good decision from Terry. Cahill, Lescott, Jagielka, Smalling, Jones that's enough defenders to see us through to World Cup.
21st Century Fox Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Matt Lawton suggests in the Daily Mail: "Before he complained of the FA making his position 'untenable', he perhaps should have reflected on how often he has made the situation untenable for the England management." Perfectly summarised.
Mack Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 The FA are a joke. It even states in their own rules if a player is found innocent in a criminal court then unless significant new evidence comes to light the FA have no grounds for disciplinary action. They make it up as they go along to fit the PC agenda and I don't blame Terry for retiring, they are on a Witch-hunt.
Fox92 Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Don't really like him for Chelsea, but for England there is no doubt about him being our best centre half. Solid and a leader, would get any part of his body in the way to block a shot. Shame really, but the whole court thing has contributed.
RonnieTodger Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 I thought it was a strange one when I first heard Ashley Cole being labelled as best LB in the world, but who's better? I thought Lahm, but he's predominantly a RB. Disappointed about Terry. Lescott shouldn't be in our XI but sadly, he will be all the time.
Super_horns Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Shame from a playing point of view but maybe for the best if all this is going hangover Terry forever...
act smiley Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Perfectly summarised. I never believed any of this "2012 is the end of the world" stuff until now... the Daily Mail saying something sensible?!
BlueSi13 Posted 25 September 2012 Posted 25 September 2012 Like him or loathe him, he is still Englands best centre half by miles for me. Just watching us against Ukraine without him highlighted it perfectly. Innocent until proven guilty? What if you've been proven innocent? Does that mean you can still be semi-guilty? What evidence does the FA have that the courts didn't? Did he racially abuse Ferdinand or didn't he? Its all a little dramatic and drawn-out for me

Finnegan Posted 26 September 2012 Posted 26 September 2012 Lahm is both a better left and right back than Cole is a left back. There's no doubting he's a good player, a top class player, but this English posturing about him being the best in the world is just a myth fuelled by bias. Even more so now that he's comfortably beyond his best.
