Redknapp wanted by Leicester's millionaire Thai boss to deliver Premier League football

Harry Redknapp is to be offered the chance of an intriguing return to football with ambitious Championship club Leicester City.

Leicester's wealthy Thai owner Vichai Raksriaksorn wants the former Tottenham boss to replace Nigel Pearson after becoming frustrated at the way his £60million investment has failed to deliver Premier League football.

C'mon Harry: Ambitious Leicester want Redknapp

Raksriaksorn has outspent his rivals since taking over in 2010 but the club have twice missed out on promotion, first under ex-England boss Sven Goran Eriksson and then Pearson.

Eriksson splashed out on big-earners Jermaine Beckford, David Nugent, Kasper Schmeichel, Darius Vassell and Paul Konchesky but was sacked after finishing 10th.

His successor, Pearson, was just one position higher last season and his side secured their first away points of the season with a 2-1 victory at Middlesbrough on Saturday.

On the up: Leicester won 2-1 at Middlesborough on Saturday

City's owners believe Redknapp has the profile, charisma and man-management skills to take the team up immediately and are prepared to back him with a Premier League-style salary and funds for new players.

The popular 65-year-old has been out of full-time work since June, when he sacked by Spurs. Earlier in the year, he was beaten by Roy Hodgson for the England job after being the red-hot favourite.

Redknapp, who contacted under-fire Ipswich boss Paul Jewell last week to rule out succeeding him despite being linked with the job, is now a TV pundit and consultant for League One Bournemouth.

But he wants a manager's job and may be tempted by Leicester, who have the financial clout to match their ambition.

No quotes or sources... Nothing in it

How would managing Leicester suit Redknapp who lives in Sandbanks... Southampton will be calling soon anyway

The Thai's have financial clout? Maybe, but why spend a year clearing the decks & making things sustainable whilst the Thai's keep talking about long term and there's FFP limits to keep under limiting big wage deals that have bought 'Arry his non-existent success after 28yrs managing.

There is nothing about this that fits and he'll be Southampton's next boss anyway

As much as I moan about him you don't sack someone who has took us into the playoffs and has a 46% win ratio. (51% last time)

I'm sure even the Thais can't be stupid enough to make another early change especially as it looks like we're finally heading in the right direction.

Absolutely hate this rumour, hopefully it's a big old pack of lies. Pearson is doing a great job, and is a good fit for our club, actually trying to build a team, geared to the present but with plenty of room to improve for the future.

Plus I've always disliked Redknapp and his 'Cockney Geezer' persona. He'd only come in and piss a load of money up the wall. If things did go well, he'd jump ship anyway as soon as a London Prem club had a vacancy and a bit of dosh to splash about, leaving us looking for a new manager, with no decent manager worth his salt willing to touch us with a bargepole after the shitty way Pearson was dropped.

I think they're working under the assumption that because our owners are foreign that must mean that they are erratic and likely to make bizarre and rash decisions. Everything that has happened at this club in the last six months suggests otherwise. Really lazy journalism. The picture is almost offensive. Possibly Redknapp himself feeding a bit of coin in to get his name in the papers. Either way it's ridiculous. There's no way our owners will sack the manager now after three straight wins. If we lose the next three then maybe, but not now.
