Ridiculous headline. No-one has been 'disappeared', which would have you believe they murdered and hid the bodies of 7000 people. The Guardian even admits they can't say exactly how many people were arrested as they have records for 7000 arrests, rather than 7000 people. If this is the case, it makes their own statistics on percentage of race a little off the mark and a poor attempt at making it race-related, but that's nothing new. 7000 arrests over an 11 year period equates to 636 arrests per year, so less that 2 per day, which, when put in to perspective, isn't as drastic as the headline initially suggests (again). Whereas it appears they may not be playing exactly by the rules at Homan Square, it is quite obviously a specialist drugs-arrest outpost in an are with incredibly high drug usage and are using the fact that the criminals are drug addicts or related to the distribution of drugs to attempt to incriminate themselves.

The headline is absurd. Nevertheless, the general acceptance of the removal of peoples right and the quite evident racism is a concern for me.

How exactly do you come to the conclusion that it is evident racism. Could it not actually be the case that the black and Hispanic population of the city are more heavily involved in the use and distribution of drugs? It's rather contradictory anyway, as they try to make a big point about people going missing and the police department not keeping adequate records of arrests and bookings, then in the next paragraph go on to provide their own statistics. The information is either already there, or the Guardian are embellishing a bit.

Bit of a nightmare going on on elm street!

MISSION, TX (KGBT/CNN) – When getting into the spirit of Halloween, some people have fake coffins in their front yards. But one Texas woman found a real one in her backyard.

It was a real life nightmare for Deedee Oliveira. "It’s just a crazy story because it’s almost Halloween,” she said.

The Mission resident recently purchased a home on Elm street. And workers were in the middle of making full renovations to the backyard when they hit something they could move. "They let my dad know first that they found a box. And so my dad said OK we'll move the box later so you can finish the work," Oliveira said.

But it wasn't a box. When Oliveira walked to her backyard and saw what was being dug up, she could not believe her eyes. An old rusted coffin almost four feet long emerged.

"A coffin?! I'm like, 'What do you mean a coffin?' I can’t even explain it, it was huge, it had the handles on the side. It was really rusted. And it had bags wrapped around it,” she said. Authorities were immediately called out to the home.

So is anyone going to post any interesting news topics today or is it all going to be shambolic political propaganda?

What is political about the above story? It is a documentary about a woman and how she coped living in a hostel after losing her home that she had lived in for quite a few years. She  had a full time job too, was well educated and articulate. I thought it interesting because it debunks your viewpoint that all people that become homeless are alcoholics or druggies and shows that being made homeless can happen to anyone. Do you know how many women are made homeless through domestic violence or young children that run away because of sexual abuse? I will leave you to research it. Something you rarely do as you have your one sided view and will not accept anything other.

This is quite interesting, newttactics being employed by Labour in Birmingham.

"Vote Labour or go to hell"

Personally I'd still choose the latter if it was true.

I voted Labour and still went to hell - the hell of Tory Britain.

Do I get my money back?

You make a good enough point Rincey, but as one who flies the red flag in both hands, I don't think accusing people of being one-sided is necessarily the best way to make it! :D .
