What takeaways do you use?

They did get shut down for a while yeah, but I just ****ing love their chow mein!

In fairness we have used it a couple of times. My missis much prefers the chowmein from there than she does China Chef.

I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place really- Have you ever had Wok Express deliever to you? JC they're the kind of people outsiders stereotype Coalville's population as!

They seem a bit Addams familyish! But I get really pissed off with the woman from China Chef who takes the delivery orders by phone-

She asks you for your telephone number, which when I lived with my parents was no problem, I'd give it her and then she'd say, '94 Brumlee Woad?'

Now I've moved out I call them off my mobile number, and always get asked the same question. 'Telephone number?' (meaning landline)

'I don't have one'

'OK 078........ 39 such and such a street.'

If you can tell which number I'm bloody ringing from why ask in the first place? It winds me up so much I'm on the verge of not using them again!

I was a fan of Coalville Grill's burgers back in the day. Fat as fook. I'm sure they are hoof the size now, and give you the tummy grumbles.

I live in the Coalville area and Kashmir do the best kebabs I have ever tasted. Chinese from Wok Express and Indian from the Cinnamon Tree.

Oh, and the best thing about the takeaways in Coalville is the Alcoline!

Can't remember which one runs it now, the back of their property is on Gutterridge St near the Salvation Army. Many a time have I ordered late night fags and booze when we're too pissed to drive! A fine service indeed

Do they use Tesco as a supplier?

Yeah I use a landline so it's not an issue for me, but it does sound ridiculous the problems they have if someone is not using a house phone! Imo the food there is the best in the area and tbh most chinese takeaways could probably get shut down if people looked hard enough, so they have sorted themselves out since having to close! That's what I tell myself each time I order anyway...lol

Or if you like football, wore some T90s for it and rode a bike to get about quickly

The lines got blurred more than emo mascara

Wow, how has nobody mentioned Picnic Kebab House on Evington Road yet?! Make all their own done, burgers etc and go down beautifully with a Rubicon Passion. Beaut.

Anybody that eats Maryland has no self respect for their bodies.

For any of you townies who think they're a bit up on the Curry scene. Chilli and Spice in Swannington are a good favourite from round here. They used to fly their curry out to Westlife by helicopter on special request lol

Outside of the free delivery zone, I assume!

I've not lived round there for about 20 years but i know its a temple now,was a bit of an uproar when it happened

Hong Kong on corner of Coleman Road was another we used to make the pilgrimage too

Stay away from Marina on Braunstone Gate. The place is dirty. I asked for a chicken kebab. Instead of cutting some off the kebab on the spit, he scooped some out of a plastic bucket on the floor and put it in the microwave! I got my money back and went Mario's.

City Pizza on Upperton Road is good, though.

Hahaha is that the place opposite Sumo? I used to gig at Sumo frequently, after every gig I'd say and I'm off to get chips, and our bassist stopped me because he heard some right horror stories about it

Speaking of which - I did used to go to Yumchi nearby for a cheap Chinese. Quite good value but it did make me ill once.

Takeaways I use these days:

Bains for chips (better than Birstall Fishery)

If I fancy special chips, Rothley Fish Bar is worth the extra. Sileby Fish Bar is also good most of the time, but occasionally undercooked

Sileby Cottage for a dependable Chinese. Pearl City in Barrow if money is an issue (£2.30 gets you a large egg fried rice with chicken and choice of sauce)

There's only one place for a quality pizza in Leicestershire - Bianca's of Quorn. Sometimes see there delivery van miles from Quorn. The special garlic bread is unbelievable. Out of the main franchises though, Pizza Hut is best.

I don't get Indian takeaway often enough to have a favoured place. I can't even remember my favourite dish (Makhoni? Lakhani?) - it's an almondy lamb dish... anywhere that sells that when I'm in the mood. Edit: Raj - thanks for reminding me - Grand Durbar is a great place. Haven't been for years but I never had a bad experience there

And of course, KFC. When you're starving, not much comes close to a Zinger Tower - one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century

Restaurants (non-takeaway):

Moomba in Loughborough - great Aussie cuisine, nice choice of odd meats, good portions, reasonable price. Also worth mentioning the Cactus Cafe in Lough, run by the same people

Quorn Exchange in Quorn - best meal out I've ever had, including a £150 I wasted for me and the missus to eat at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen in Cornwall.

Ragley Boat Stop in Derby - great steaks for the money.

Since i finish work in the early hours and sometimes cant be arsed to cook i use Expresso Pizza, Aylestone road or Delight Express, Welford road since they are open very late.

On saturdays i will sometimes order a chinese or indian from four different local takeaways that have a decent star rating.
