Electronic advertising boards

Recommended Posts

Welcome to modern football. Its not pretty but its a reality. I bet having electronic advertisement boards is an entry requirement to the premier league. It is the most money centred league in the world The owners arent just out to upset people you know.

Your spectacular avoidance of my question says it all.

Ive said my piece. I wish money wasnt the centre of the universe and I wish fans did come first. But unfortunately sacrafices have to be made to survive and progress in todays footballing world and most of the times fans take the brunt of it with prices etc. Im sorry if I caused offence. I just get a bit too passionate.

Lets face it. The fans of Leicester City really are the biggest bunch of moaning halfwits in England. Moan about the players, the manager, the big screens, the food, the prices, the fanstore and NOW the advertising boards. Are people not happy unless they have something to slag off about the club. Get ****ing real. The owners are trying to run a business.Times have changed. Football is about money and we wont get anywhere without it. If electronic advertising boards can rake money in, then im afraid its tough. I mean eye strain, really? Take a pair of sunglasses if it hurts you so much.

You do realise your post is just one big moan in it's self ?

That new fox mean eyes picture on the bigscreens looks cool, can it be downloaded from anywhere?

Im sure we have copied it from Hull. They have something very similar on their screen for Tiger eyes. Sure its the same thing.

Fans are being dazzled by the latest displays at the King Power Stadium – but it has nothing to do with the footballicon1.png on show.

They are complaining that new electric advertising hoardings are proving a major headache.

Hundreds of City supporters have bombarded internet message boards since City's 2-1 home defeat against Charlton on Tuesday to complain of being distracted by the moving images and not being able to concentrate on the match.

Long-time supporter Dave Johnson's view was typical of the reaction.

He said it was the "worst football experienceicon1.png in my 46 years of supporting my beloved Leicester City''.

He said: "I'm really not sure how good the gameicon1.png was, or not, as my concentration was constantly drawn to the bright neon flashing advertising hoardings.

"They were so bright and fast-moving I simply couldn't concentrate on the match.

"The worst times were when they went to bright red or green as, from my angle, I could no longer distinguish the blue shirts.

"I could not see Paul Konchesky or Ben Marshall in the first half and wouldn't have known they were on the pitch but for their white shorts."

Matt Davis, vice-chairman of the Foxes Trust, said: "We have been contacted by hundreds of fans who were at the Charlton game.

"The advertising hoardings were very distracting. I could hardly see some of the players myself or track the flight of the ball.

"It was like having looked into the sun, with all the shapes on my retina. It made it difficult to read the programme at half time.

"We are aware of a number of season ticket holders who have stated their intention of not renewing their tickets if the issue is not addressed. Other fans have reported suffering headaches, sore eyes or feelings of nausea."

The trust has raised the issue with the club, saying it could not wait until the Fans' Consultative Committee on Thursday, as there is a home game against Blackburn on Tuesday and it does not want a repeat of the problem at that match.

The new boards were installed for the FA Cup clash with Huddersfield, which City lost 2-1.

City Supporters Club chairman Cliff Ginetta said: "I know a lot of people were complaining. But on the whole, I think they are an improvement on the wooden boards.

"It shows the club is moving forwards to where we want to be. Perhaps the light level could be toned down a bit to avoid people being affected."

No-one from the club was available for comment yesterday.

But in an e-mail, club spokesman Ian Flanagan told fan Lynn Billingham the new advertising system was on trial and would be used at all remaining home games this season.

He wrote: "The system is a state-of-the-art LED (light-emitting-diode) system, which is currently used by UEFA for all Champions League knock-out stage games and is in place at Wembley Stadium and Twickenham.

He said: "The LED system was set at this brightness level for the Charlton Athletic match. In response to supporter feedback during the first half, the brightness level was reduced by one-third (to 40) for the second half.

"These levels are exactly in line with average brightness levels for Premier League LED systems in this country.

"The LED system is part of a wider programme to improve the King Power Stadium and to provide a top-class match-day experience for all LCFC supporters."

Haha! Lovely PR doublespeak there... I'm not against the system particularly, although it was obviously too bright, but don't pretend this is anything other than a money making operation. If you want to provide a "top-class match-day experience" (something once called "a football match") why not ask the fans what they want? I doubt many will say "More advertising please!"”[/font]

Club needs to sort out this problem

The owners of Leicester City have made a massive investment in their quest to take the club into the Premier League. The investment has not only come in the team, with the £2 million purchase of striker Chris Wood being just the latest example, but in all aspects of the club.

The club's training ground, in Belvoir Drive, is one of the best in the country, with facilities second to none.

Improvements continue to be made to the stadium and the club are always looking to "enhance the supporter experience".

However, something has gone badly wrong with the latest so-called improvement to the King Power Stadium.

The new LED electronic advertising signs, with the constantly changing messages, were in full flow for Tuesday night's game against Charlton.

Complaints started almost immediately and have not stopped since.

Many fans say the signs were so bright that they could not even see what was happening on the other side of the pitch. Lifelong fan Dave Johnson was typical. He said: "When the signs went to bright red or green, I could not distinguish the blue LCFC shirts."

The Foxes Trust confirm that they have been contacted by "hundreds of fans" since the Charlton game and want something done.

They even report fans complaining of suffering headaches, sore eyes or feeling nausea.

The only response from the club so far has come in an e-mail statement to complaining fans.

In it, the club confirms they had complaints and turned down the brightness at half-time to try to solve the problem. Clearly, whatever was done was not enough.

The club points out these signs are used at major grounds throughout Europe and will be used at all remaining homeicon1.png games.

This may be the case, but something is not quite right with those signs at the King Power Stadium and an urgent look needs to be taken at what is going wrong.

These are genuine complaints from fans who pay a lot of money to watch their team and an improvement needs to be made by Tuesday's game.

Looks like we'll have the lowest away following ever if we ever do get into the premier league if these boards are giving people nausea and headaches!

Posted

The people moaning are a disgrace.

Headaches? Get a grip of yourself, they aren't that bad.

Progress is lost on some people.

Thats right!

So when we are in the premier league and all Season Tickets go up by 25% its no use moaning about it...Thats just progress innit???

Liverpool don't or didn't have them last night!!

Cos they are a sack of piss!

Posted

Blimey, some people would be buggered if they ever saw a Numan light show. These boards are not that bad. Shouldn't really have them on during the game though as they could be a little distracting for the players

This new addition to the advertising hoardings is appalling. Far too bright and off-putting to what we have all come to see - the football.

I see what the Club are up to, trying to keep up with the Joneses with one eye on the Premiership, well forget it. Let's get that and do what alterations need to be done in the close season.

It is ironic since the arrival of this glaring addition we haven't won a game.

This is another step by the Club where they are putting the long suffering supporters second. Advertising hoardings, price of food and drink and non-Saturday afternoon kick offs. The Club may well be receiving a small fortune with TV rights etc. but there is absolutely no benefit to the fans!!

Youre welcome any time mate! The point is, every premier league club has them. If thats where we want to go and remain, then its a tiny price to pay. Not easy to be financially sustainable in the top flight. Every penny counts.

No they dont I watched Liverpool on the telly last night, plenty of static adverts none of them moved.
