Wilson_6 Posted 22 February 2013 Posted 22 February 2013 Its odd how it doesn't put the opposition off isn't it? Almost as if its a handy scapegoat. Would there be any moaning if we were winning? Brilliant!

The People's Hero Posted 22 February 2013 Posted 22 February 2013 Who exactly has said it put off only our players? Its been suggested a few times, I can't be bothered to trawl through and find examples and I suspect its something which has been discussed across several threads. If that makes my point less valid, then sobeit.

Mark_w Posted 22 February 2013 Posted 22 February 2013 Would there be any moaning if we were winning? Yes, the majority are moaning about them because they're distracting us as fans, not because they might be distracting players.
tontolcfc Posted 22 February 2013 Posted 22 February 2013 They shouldn't move or flash when the ball is in play at least. I hate them
Jimbo Posted 22 February 2013 Posted 22 February 2013 At least if we had a flood light failure then we could carry on playing
iancognito Posted 22 February 2013 Posted 22 February 2013 I'm all for keeping up with the Premier League, modern times etc but just dim them down by 50%, the pitchside ads will get noticed without needing to look like the seafront at Great Yarmouth.

There were some donkeys on the pitch being ridden so that's appropriate.
halferowley2 Posted 22 February 2013 Posted 22 February 2013 I complained to the club by email last night and received a reply today. Basically, their line is that it is to enhance the customer experience, everywhere else does it, and nobody else has complained. I have had eye strain all day today, something I never normally have. I won't be renewing my season ticket if they persist with these boards. But they have not fully enhanced it for the fans in the West stand, they have only done three sides. Pleased Im in the East Stand if I was inthe West Stand I would want cheaper tickets for not having the fully enhanced customer experience. Why cant they just say its for the TV.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 22 February 2013 Posted 22 February 2013 It's the positioning of the signs that's the problem. Too close to the pitch. I don't get the people who were saying they couldn't watch the match because of them*, I was at the Huddersfield debacle and whilst I didn't like them I didn't really notice them after a while. If they were moved back to where the old fashioned static signs are, I'm sure they would be fine. *I'm not surprised however that many of our fans are easily distracted by the shiney.

I lost sight of the ball a few times in the first half because of them. The club's response is laughable. Pretending that it has been done to enhance my matchday experience? Lying sods. It has been done to make money and nothing else. I don't understand the reference to Premier League and Champion's League clubs having them either. So what?
Chrysalis Posted 22 February 2013 Posted 22 February 2013 you guys where you been hiding for the past 5 years? Its normal now for non tinpot clubs to have these boards, and I have been embarrased we were still using wooden ones, relieved now we moved into modern advertising, and I like the bright lights, looks awesome on a night game.

Its normal now for non tinpot clubs to have these boards, and I have been embarrased we were still using wooden ones, relieved now we moved into modern advertising, and I like the bright lights, looks awesome on a night game. You've made a similarly mental statement over on TB. Please tell me you're joking and you haven't really been inwardly seething at the club's failure to abandon wooden advertising hoardings. Why on Earth would 'other clubs have them!!' bea good enough reason for us to adopt them?
Chrysalis Posted 22 February 2013 Posted 22 February 2013 Because its progression. Wooden boards not only now look dated but they clearly less effective, if you been distracted then thats good it means the boards are doing their job. Its not hard to realise that. The idea of an advertising board is to get your attention and be read. Although most likely these are aimed at tv coverage more than fans in the ground but I immediatly noticed even watching highlights I could see the advertising and make it out, much better than the previous. So this will part be keeping up with other clubs and to be increasing revenue. Since you read the other forum I asked there how do you manage at away games where these boards also get used? do you wear sunglasses?
LJS Posted 22 February 2013 Posted 22 February 2013 They aren't as bright as they were in the first half on Tuesday. The club turned them down at halftime. Progress for the sake of progress isn't a good thing, by the way. This progress does not benefit me whatsoever. Indeed it hindered my watching of the game for forty five minutes on Tuesday. Anything can be dressed up as progress. I doesn't mean we should accept it unquestioningly. The club may get some negligible financial benefit from having them there but I don't care about that. I'm there to watch football, nothing else. This argument is similar to the one where fans say they'd prefer promotion and skin-of-our-teeth survivial in the top flight every year over winning something like the FA Cup, justifying it on the grounds that the club will make more money. They seem to forget that they won't see a penny of the extra cash. All they will see is price hikes.

Quick Fox Posted 24 February 2013 Posted 24 February 2013 I've specifically registered on this site, to find out if other people were as distracted by these boards as I was. I have been a supporter for over 60 years, but I have never experienced such discomfort as I did last Tuesday. I wondered if the player's performance was affected by the bright, flickering and contrasting images changing every few seconds. How could the club possibly argue that it would enhance the supporter's experience? It looks like Tuesday night is fast becoming the new Saturday afternoon. The club must seriously tone down the "light show" for evening games. I attend to watch a football match, and to support my home town team. Unless something is done about this, I will not renew my season ticket, which will be a great shame.
allotment-fox Posted 24 February 2013 Posted 24 February 2013 did not like the night time appearance of these boards and read the report in the mercury when it was stated they turned them down at half time due to the large amount of complaints, when the boards were turned from the Champions league setting From memory I don't recall moving adverts on those boards when the Champions league was on TV !
nealsimbo Posted 24 February 2013 Posted 24 February 2013 Been to both games with the new electronic advertising must admit thought it was bright but on saturday i think it will be ok, just looked at the man city game and it seems ok.i think we have to move with the times so just accept it and move on.
Deucalion Posted 24 February 2013 Posted 24 February 2013 I can usually find it within myself to be against anything but I'm finding very little motivation to get annoyed by the electronic advertising hoardings. They were a bit bright the other day but maybe this is just teething troubles. If it brings in extra revenue for the club then it is not a bad thing.
JonnyBoy Posted 24 February 2013 Posted 24 February 2013 Well if we ever get promoted, they would be put in place anyway. However, they're far too bright. It might be fine when it's during the day, but when all I see is this red shit illuminating everything, there's a fvcking problem. Turn them down, or turn them off. All this flashing and shit distracts on what's going on the pitch. I could only make out the players' silhouettes on the far side of the pitch. Shocking just out of interest did blackpool have them when they went up to the prem?!
Wozzler Posted 24 February 2013 Posted 24 February 2013 To be honest, even tho Leicester are doing well this season, I'm getting so ****ed off at home games, I've got to the point where I don't look forward to going any more. I've supported Leicester since 82 and have prob had about 15 season tickets. They made zero ****ing effort to replicate the atmosphere of Filbert Street. I 'stand'in Block L, but we get out sung by away fans most of the time. Classic example, Palace. Embarrassing. For gods sake, move the ****ing kop next to the away fans. Problem solved. As for those ridiculous advertising boards..... I understand why they're need to have them when ur paying £10m+ a year in wages but I spent £500 on a season ticket to watch leicester and against Charlton on Tues, all I could focus on was shifty stupid ****ing adverts. I don't want to see them at a football match. If I was watch in tv, fair enough, but not at the live game. The third thing that really gets on my nerves is having to wait 25 to get served at half time. If they're so keen on making money, why don't they employ more staff (or staff with a bit more urgency would be nice) and sell more stuff in a shorter space of time. I'm so annoyed, I really don't know if I can be arsed to go on Tuesday v Blackburn.its getting pathetic and is mo longer the former enjoyable day / evening out I used to look forward to.
flowwolf Posted 24 February 2013 Posted 24 February 2013 The people moaning are a disgrace. Headaches? Get a grip of yourself, they aren't that bad. Progress is lost on some people. You call that progress ? you need your eyes looking at.
