Thought provoking thread from Bentleys Roof

The current scenario of street drinkers, homeless and drug abuser isn’t restricted Leicester. Similarly the retail situation isn’t either. Every city is facing these problems. Easier to hide in major cities but harder to ignore in smaller places

Four arrested after fight involving 'rakes, spades and metal bars' in Evington Valley
Police remained in the area into the night.

A fight in Evington Valley last night saw a large scale police response and led to four arrests.

Late last night Leicestershire Police confirmed that four men had been detained following a report of a fight involving a number of people in Osmaston Road in the city shortly after 7pm.

At least four ambulances were called to at the scene, including two specialist response units, alongside armed police vehicles, both marked and unmarked.

Two men were taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary to be treated for non life-threatening injuries.

A number of roads including Osmaston Road, Glossop Street, East Park Road were closed while emergency services tackled the incident, which eyewitnesses said was a fight between a number of people which involved 'rakes, spades and metal bars' .

Officers remained in the area late into the night

The injured men remain in LRI this morning.

A 35-year-old man from Leicester was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm.

Three other men, aged 42, 39 and 18 – and all from Leicester – were arrested on suspicion of affray at an address nearby.

All four remain in custody and enquiries are ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 611 of 23 May.

I was in Leicester the other week for the first time in a while. Wow this place is getting worse absolute dive again. Also I thought that there was a new burger place next to McDonald’s? Well that wasn’t there anymore.

Giving away the shithole where I live but I saw the whole fight. There was one bloke walking round with a katana and someone threw a crowbar at a crowd with women and children in it. Police took well over 20 minutes to show up but were very good when they got here

That chain went as good as bust mate and closed about twenty restaurants. It's a prime spot but not for a burger gaff like that, people don't wanna have a sit down meal near the clock tower.

The burgers were quite decent aswell. Amazes me that, that and Byron closed down and yet handmade burger is still open. That place is absolutely garbage and always empty

How much did those slabs used in the High Street and clock tower area cost? What a waste of money. They look awful. Dirty, covered in chewing gum. Gaps filled in with cheap tarmac. Horrible and embarrassing.

I don’t know it was one of the chains. I wouldn’t ever go there but I just couldn’t believe how quickly it had closed down. Seems to be happening to all burger places in Leicester atm. As @Samilktray says Handmade burger is ****ing terrible yet is still there, I can only assume they are buying the spot and not making any money.

All of the the above aside I am glad that crafty is still going strong as that is an independent and the best in the city.

Did you 'boogie on down' at Leicester's Topps nightclub in the 1980s?
What can you tell us about the venue?

Topps nightclub, Leicester, in 1984

We feel sure these two fabulous photos from the 1980s will bring back many memories of clubbing days (and nights) for some of our readers.

The photos, sent in by reader Jeff Boyes, were taken at the opening night of Topps nightclub in 1984.

We would love to find out more about this nightclub, having failed to unearth any information on our archive.

Where was it located, how long did it survive as a nightclub and what is the building now, if it is still standing?

Judging by the way the staff are dressed, with the men sporting dickie bows, the club seems to have been aiming for an up-market look.

The other photo shows what we assume is the DJ’s booth.

Do you recognise any of the people on either of the photos?

Controversial but I now rate Boo burger on London Road over Craftys

After the title win the city should have thrived but it seems every other week somewhere is closing. I didn’t particularly like the orange tree but it’s still a shame.
