ScouseFox Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 i forgot about benitez not gona lie, he is another master of setting up a team to win a game/tie. interesting to say mourinho isn't a good cup manager. he's won a knockout competition (at least one) at every club he's managed, totalling 9 cups in 11 years including 2 CLs and has a massive chance of adding a third this year too. again this season, like he did at inter and real when beating barca for example, he has beaten liverpool (x2) city (x2) and been unbeaten home and away vs city, liverpool, united & arsenal. if you want a job done in a big game when you're slight underdogs he's you're man, really. ssn just showed a stat that they've lost 10 more points than liverpool vs bottom half teams over the season, which shows where the problem is, not the "big" games. as for the title, think city will win it now and are rightly just favourites. everton away is usually tough but they're in a bit of a slump and by the time they play it's looking like they have basically nothing to play for vs a superior city side going for the league. only one winner there imo. going to be cruel on liverpool to lose the league on goal difference after being comfortably the best attacking team in the league (world?) for at least half the season.
Grandad. Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 There's not much in it, granted, but I think that Yaya has had the bigger impact this season. 19 goals from midfield. Yaya has evenly spread out his goals (I don't know this and I don't know where you'd be able to find out, but I bet Yaya's goals has brought more points per game than Suarez's). Not been suspended. Suarez has been quiet in too many games this season, fair enough he can score a hattrick at any time but he's looked quiet to me in a lot of Liverpool games whereas Yaya is at the forefront of everything City does. Players like Kalas and Bruce with little to no PL experience have been able to nulify Suarez. I think that there should be more to it than Suarez's goals and assists, if you look at performances and impact in games then Yaya has had the better season. Players like Kalas and Bruce to you will seem to have been able to nulify Suarez but that is because there has been around 4 players around him. Suarez has played 31 league games and scored 30 league goals and don't forget the 12 assists as well in the league, so he has contributed to 42 goals this season, not bad for a player who was kept quiet v Bruce and Kalas. Oh and not one of them 30 has been a penalty, so lets say Steven Gerrard didn't take them and Suarez did, we could probably look at another 6 or 7 goals on the chance he could of missed a few, Liverpool have had 12 penalties this season. Suarez is at the front of everything Liverpool do, like I have said in the paragraph above, he has been involved in 42 of our 96 goals, that is more than Yaya has been involved in for Man City this season. Suarez was suspended from last season, where as Yaya Toure has been injured (missed three games) this season and Suarez hasn't, so Suarez has started every single game since his ban finished. A striker to play at the level he does which is 100% every single game and not to pick up an injury is some going I'll tell you. Yaya Toure has had a fantastic season, no doubt about that what so ever. He is the main man in a team who were expected to be in the position they are in, which is the favourites to win the league, Suarez? He is the main man in a team who was expected to challenge for a top four finish, what has he done instead? He has been the main man in a side who are currently top of the Premier League, scored 30 league goals and is just under scoring a goal every game this season. It's a tough debate to clear up, maybe my bias will swing it for me but Luis Suarez is close to being in the top three players in the world. This award was rightly deserved.
Finnegan Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 Splitting hairs really, they're different players in different positions. Both world class and both would have been worthy winners. Suarez has been more headlining grabbing this year which is probably all the difference is.

Guest MattP Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 Can't get my head around any thought that Suarez shouldn't have won it. The bloke has been absolutely outstanding this season and has genuinely asserted himself in the World's top 5 which is something Toure could only dream of, great player of course but he looked like a novice when he came up agaisnt Xavi and Busquets.
Harry - LCFC Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 Waiting for Yaya to accuse everyone of racism now that he's missed out...
Grandad. Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 Waiting for Yaya to accuse everyone of racism now that he's missed out... Suarez is racist though. Like Matt has just said, Suarez has probably cemented himself in the top 5 players in the world right now. Another season like this and then I think he will be on the Ronaldo and Messi level, I know Messi has had an off year but he is still without doubt the second best player in the world. I'm pretty sure as well Luis Suarez would swap his PFA Player of the Year trophy for the Premier League trophy, Yaya Toure won't care one bit about missing out if City get their hands on the title.
Finnegan Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 I don't see any room for Suarez in Ronaldo, Messi, Ibra, Reus, Bale.
Mark_w Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 Everton having a few injuries isn't going to help the cause but they won't throw the game, that would be very unlike Everton under Martinez. Shout out to the Chelsea fan who took a pasting after the game yesterday after he was seen to be spitting on the Hillsborough memorial and another shout out to all the other Chelsea fans who were singing about Heysel and Hillsborough, classless club. Let's not judge a club and it's fans on the actions of a handful of idiots. Munich for instance is a good example of why you'd want to avoid doing that.
Grandad. Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 Let's not judge a club and it's fans on the actions of a handful of idiots. Munich for instance is a good example of why you'd want to avoid doing that. My post after this stated my views on Munich, clubs need to be doing all they can to stop these idiots. A Liverpool fan yesterday reported one of our fans for being racist, tweeted the club with his seat number and row and accused him of being racist towards Demba Ba and Raheem Sterling, Liverpool are now dealing with the matter and looking into the incident. We need more of this. Unfortunately these things are never going to go away, Liverpool fans (the minority) and Man United fans (again a minority) are always going to chant about Munich and Hillsborough/Heysel. Chelsea fans included.. In my eyes Chelsea are a classless club, always have been and always will be, there is just something about them. Their wannabe hooligan fans, to the Russian owner, Mourinho, John Terry and their fans with them stupid plastic flags. Cringe.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 It's a shame Suarez couldn't muster any goals against Chelsea, Man City or Arsenal mind.
Grandad. Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 It's a shame Suarez couldn't muster any goals against Chelsea, Man City or Arsenal mind. Scored v all three of them last season, let Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterling and Martin Skrtel have a go instead. S, S, S A S.
Super_horns Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 Liverpool asking for favours from their neighbours now - I wonder how the Everton fans will see things... Hope to win to keep in contention for 4th or lose so Liverpool cannot win the league! Most would want the former surely despite the rivalry?
AjcW Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 If the premier league minus the top six is this poor next season we will be in the fecking top half!! Pardew needs to go ASAP.. They won't have to pay compo considering the amount of sackable offences he's churned out!!
bovril Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 Arsenal really could (and maybe should) have won the league this season.

Life's great mysteries: Bermuda Triangle, The Grassy Knoll, Malaysian Airways Flight 370, Newcastle still being top half.
Grandad. Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 Lallana wants to sign for Liverpool and their willing to let him go for £20-25 million, I'm skeptical at spending that much on him.
ScouseFox Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 where would he fit into liverpool's side though? you (rightly or wrongly, up for debate) were saying he's no coutinho the other day in here. he's definitely not going to replace sterling on a wing, suarez and sturridge are suarez and sturridge, he's not going to come in for henderson because they do different jobs and he's not going to replace gerrard sitting deep. a waste of 25 mill and a waste of what could be a very big career move for lallana, no?

Exactly, I have no idea where Rodgers would play him, he bloody loves Henderson as well. I did say in that debate that I think Lallana could be a box to box midfielder and that is the only place I can see Lallana playing, we need to be bringing in quality and Lallana has quality but £25 million for a 26 year old is a lot of money, especially if he isn't going to be a certain starter. One thing is for sure, this summer is probably one of the biggest ever for Liverpool FC in regards to transfers. We ****ed up in 2009 when we should have gone and brought quality to build on our runners up spot, yet we bought in Aquilani and that clearly didn't work.
Guest MattP Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 That's madness if true. Little if anything needs doing with Liverpool going forward, it's the defence that needs sorting, they have conceded more than Palace and Hull. 25 million should get an absolute rock at the back.
ScouseFox Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 He is quality like but yeah, whether it's cm, attacking mid or on a flank he's not going to get in ahead of any of liverpools current first XI. Agreed, Benitez fked up after 09, alonso left nobody of any quality came in and you went from being very close to league winners to fighting for top 4 again. Rodgers seems to be building and building though so you'd hope it'll be different this time. No matter who wins the league it's going to be a great summer for the neutral with probably one or two new World Cup stars attracting attention for starters. Then you've no doubt got city splashing the cash, united need a whole new squad, Liverpool will be rejecting no end of offers for Suarez whilst tryin to build themselves. Wenger needs to buy a new world class forward, mourinho the same. Gonna be mental month or so after the World Cup!
AKCJ Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 I agree that Lallana shoudn't be such a big target for Liverpool. They're fine with Coutinho and Sterling. Lallana is better than those, but not enough to go out and spend 25m. They need pretty much an entire back 4.
Grandad. Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 Lallana isn't better than either Coutinho or Sterling for me, he is a completely different player to them though. Agree Matt, defensively we need to do the work but bringing in three new defenders isn't the way to do it, I think maybe one or two need to come in. I would like us to keep Skrtel, he has had a great season and deserves to be in the starting eleven next season. We do need another centre midfielder though, you see with Henderson not starting the last two games where we have struggled to press and win the ball back quickly. Lucas just can't do that anymore, injuries have prevented that. Konoplyanka will more than likely come in as well, adding quality is going to be tough for us, even though we have been brilliant and challenging for the title we will still struggle to attract players over Chelsea, Man City and Man United. I would like Morata from Real Madrid to come in and maybe go for Pastore from PSG. As long as the Caulker rumours have no truth.
