Think Spain are boring too. Yeah it's the "right way" but it's played at a snails pace. Certainly not "exciting".

Bit hard to play at break neck speed when most teams just stick eleven behind the ball when they play you. Got to be patient. I agree their games can be tedious to watch some times.

They're also very arrogant, cheats and very bad losers.

Any team with Busquets is bound to go that way though.

Spain are 99/100 one of the most boring teams in the history of the game to watch. I get "the purists" point of view saying it's how it should be played, it's "the beautiful game" but it's boring, how anyone can deny that it's boring is beyond me. Every few years they have a first half like this, yeah, but most the time they have 80% possession and 99% of their possession is Ramos to Xavi to Ramos to Pique to Xavi to Ramos to Xavi to Pique to Xavi to Ramos FOR ABOUT 25 MINUTES. It's boring.

I wonder if the Mexican goal-keeper, Corona, thought he was going to smash the post hence why moving his arms away? Surprising, anyway. You don't see many keepers doing that because they have the presence of mind to stand just infront of the goal-line to avoid hitting the post anyway!

Looking at the replays, the one from inside the goal you can see his hand is nowhere near the ball, and it looks like he has decided to try and break his fall rather than go for a ball he has no chance of getting. It is the height that does him.

But which is the boring team, the team that sits back and allows Spain to play like that? Or Spain for keeping possession, probing passing, trying to create something without resorting to an aimless lump forward?

Spain are a scintillating footballing team if they get a little bit of space to work in, and love it when teams chase after them, lose shape and try and close them down. The best way to stop Spain scoring is to get all men back solid disciplined defending, let them pass it around at the back and double up on them when they go forwards, if you do this for the whole game you might scrape a 0-0. Is it Spain's fault that teams do that? Should they just play hit and hope football because the opposition are being negative?

The biggest problem is they play teams with such little ambition, especially in the group stages, that they continue playing negative football even after conceding so they only lose 1-0.

They are an exceptional group of players that have  their own brand of football. I don't mind it personally, they play as a team to their strengths as every team should. Just accept it.

Whether it's the other team or Spain's fault it still means Spain are boring to watch. I'm not saying Spain go out with the intention of making me want to stab myself in the eyeballs for 90 minutes, but it usually ends up that way. They're good enough to break down any defence with relative ease, why don't they? If they get one early (like today) they could comfortably get 6 or 7 in every single game. They show no real ambition either for large parts of most games which makes it even more boring. Most teams go to Barca or Real with the intention of losing by as few as possible but Messi/Ronaldo won't stand for "waiting for a gap" or "wearing them down", they demand the ball, make their own gap and make it actually decent to watch. Spain don't. If it was up to Xavi they'd draw every game 0-0 because his pass success between him and Pique and him and Ramos and him and Iniesta seems more important that actually putting the ball in the bastard goal.

Spain do seem very happy to pass it sideways until they feel the have to go for it. Then again, if they were to force it more they'd give it away more. It's just their philosophy to keep hold of the ball until the defensive team makes a mistake basically. I don't find them great to watch most of the time but I don't really have any animosity towards the way they play either. They know that they will score a goal eventually (almost always) so from their point of view why should they change and be more ambitious?

I do think there's nothing wrong with being more direct now and again though, I'm not saying hoof it, but give it to someone quick and just tell him to run at them. There aren't enough dribblers in modern football IMO, but defences are better.

Arsenal are the team I find really boring to watch, their style of play is hugely overrated, a lot of the time it isn't even effective. They have a lot of 0-0s because they've got few ideas about how to break teams down. Most of their goals seem to be on the break or from set pieces, put men behind the ball and they're actually pretty easy to stop, unlike Spain who will pounce on almost any gap.

Oh I've got no real problem with it. It gets on my tits when I have a bet on them and they are happy to pass it sideways across the defence when there's about 5 to go and it's 0-0 or whatever but other than that they play that way because they tend to win (two Euros and a World Cup to be precise!).

Main thing that annoys me is people saying how glorious it is to watch and going on about people finding it boring "not understanding the beautiful game" and all this other bullshit. It's got nothing to do with understanding anything, it just genuinely is very boring. I can have it on in the background, like tonight it's on my laptop whilst the golf's on the tele, but I don't think I'd ever really choose to sit down with the sole intention of watching Xavi and some centre backs pass it 10 yards backwards, forwards and sideways for 88 minutes of the 90. Personal preference though. I'd much rather watch someone who just smacks it when they need to, gets it amongst the bodies etc. I'd rather watch England with Carroll up front than Spain playing no striker. Every day of the year.

Yeh I agree with you there. There are far more entertaining teams to watch than Spain, at the last World Cup I enjoyed watching Germany as an attacking side, and a few of the South American teams far more, especially the more unheralded ones like Chile and Mexico - they played with flair and a bit of naivety, they made mistakes and were far from the finished article but were willing to try things and be flamboyant, skin players and shoot from distance, throw bodies forward and play it forward quickly.

And, as much as I didn't really like Ghana I appreciated their powerful gung-ho approach, they werent afriad of missing or giving it away, they played football like children, in more ways than one!

If that front 2 are worth 90plus million.

Then beckfords got to be worth 127mill at least.

I know your playing spain but **** my.

hahahshahshahahjajhahaha Mark Lawrenson's outdone himself there.

"If he does catch him it's a penalty and a red card". It was about 5 yards outside the box. Amazing.

I'm sorry but anyone still complaining about the way Spain play football is beyond ****ing retarded.

You know what's going to happen so don't watch if you don't like it and if you DO watch, don't complain.

If I volunteer myself to watch Stoke play big Sam's West Ham, I'm not going to then whinge if it's a hideous display of lump ball. It's not about "bumming" Spain and I'm not saying for one moment you're not allowed to criticize then or dislike them or anything else. You're entitled to your opinion and I welcome that. But if you actively dislike something, don't partake. You wouldn't sit deliberately eating something you loathe and then complain you feel sick.
